Chapter 514 Bryan Ran Away with Freya
Darian pulled up a chair and sat down next to Cecily, his gaze growing serious. "Guess who I saw at the Fitzgerald Manor yesterday?"
"Who?"
"Percy."
Darian let out a cold laugh.
"He said he was there to seek help from the Fitzgerald family for Evander, but when he saw me, he kept probing about the kidnapping. Percy is an ambitious man, and I found out he has business dealings with Josep."
"So, you think this whole thing was planned by the two of them?" Cecily frowned. "But why target me? What does his ambition have to do with me?"
Darian's face remained cold, and he couldn't figure it out for the moment.
"Have they found out that you didn't lose your memory?" Cecily asked.
"Not yet. By the way, there's something I've been meaning to ask you. The day you went to see Grandpa, did he show you evidence that Josep killed Patrick?"
"Yes," Cecily replied. "But Owen suddenly started coughing up blood and fainted. I was in a hurry to save him, and the evidence scattered on the floor. When I went back to look, it was gone. Why are you asking about this now? Do you need that evidence?"
"Yes, I sent people to look for it but couldn't find it. I wonder if Josep has gotten it."
Cecily shook her head. "No, if it wasn't in Owen's study, it should be with Sawyer."
Darian's eyes narrowed. "How can you be sure?"
"At the board meeting, Sawyer suddenly stepped in to help me. Josep was furious but couldn't do anything to Sawyer. I suspected then that Josep had some leverage held by Sawyer. Now that I think about it, the biggest leverage Josep has is that evidence."
Darian's eyes squinted, and he agreed with Cecily.
Cecily continued, "Initially, I thought Sawyer was Josep's man because he helped him. But later, he helped me secure my shares, which made it seem like he was working for someone else.
And this person wants to keep Josep in the Fitzgerald Group while also preserving my shares. So, can I assume that my shares are useful to this person?"
Darian's handsome face grew colder. "You could say that."
Cecily said, "If this person is Percy, how could my shares in the Fitzgerald Group be useful to him?"
Darian frowned in deep thought.
After a while, he seemed to have thought of something, his narrow eyes flashing with a dark light, and his thin lips parted slightly. "If you become part of the Lockwood family, it will be considered marital property."
Cecily's heart skipped a beat at those words, and her mind was racing to analyze the situation.
"He wants me to marry Evander? He thinks that if I marry Evander, everything under my name will eventually belong to the Lockwood family.
If that's the case, then orchestrating such a big kidnapping and shooting at me makes sense.
He knows you've lost your memory, so he made you choose between me and Freya. He thought you would definitely save Freya, and I would be the one abandoned. Then he would tell Evander the location of the kidnapping, and Evander would come to save me. Shooting at me wasn't to kill me but to harm the child in my belly.
You save Freya, and my child is lost. I would hate you and give up on you. Then Evander appears to save me, and I would be grateful to him. Even if I don't end up marrying Evander, I would owe the Lockwood family a great debt."
Darian's eyes were cold. "You are still the only heiress of the Bennett family and will inherit it in the future. If you really follow his plan and marry Evander out of gratitude, then the Bennett family would also be in his grasp. The Fitzgerald family shares, the Bennett family wealth, all he needs to do is marry you. What a calculation."
Cecily shuddered at the thought, feeling terrified by such a scheme.
Cecily spoke, "But he doesn't know that you didn't actually lose your memory, nor did he anticipate Blaise showing up halfway."
"Yes," Darian replied, his deep eyes growing sharper.
"If everything is as we suspect, Sawyer is Percy's man, and the evidence that Josep killed your father is in Percy's hands." Cecily said.
The temperature around them dropped to freezing, and Darian's face was icy cold. "Patrick's death might also be related to him."
Darian had long suspected that Josep wouldn't have had the guts to orchestrate a car accident to kill Patrick without someone advising him.
Darian clenched his fist.
Cecily raised her hand and placed it on Darian's. "Owen hasn't woken up yet, and Sandra is still in Josep's hands. No matter how much you hate them, you need to stay calm. Since they haven't discovered that you didn't really lose your memory, let's play along."
Darian loosened his grip and gently held Cecily's delicate hand. "Don't worry. I won't act rashly."
Two knocks on the door broke the atmosphere in the ward. Larkin entered, looking somewhat anxious.
"Boss."
Darian frowned. "What is it?"
"Freya has run away again."
Darian's face was filled with an unrelenting coldness. "A woman managed to escape from you twice. How incompetent are you?"
Larkin lowered his head deeply. "Boss, this time it was Bryan who sent people to rescue Freya. We couldn't arrange too many people at the hospital, and he had a lot of men. We couldn't react in time."
At the mention of Bryan, Darian looked at Cecily.
Cecily took a sip of the water Darian had just handed her, her face calm and unperturbed, as if she no longer cared about Bryan or the situation. But the slight tremor in her eyes betrayed her emotions.
Cecily pressed her dry lips together and lowered her eyes, her lashes hiding the sorrow in her eyes.
Darian frowned, his cold face looking as if it were covered in frost.
At the airport.
Bryan had arranged a private jet to send Freya back to Riverview.
In the car, Freya threw herself into Bryan's arms, moved. "Dad, thank you."
Bryan looked at Freya, his face tense. He pushed her away. "Don't thank me. This is the last time I'm helping you."
Freya's face froze, and she looked up at Bryan.
"Dad, the last time? What do you mean?"
Without offering an answer, Bryan took out a card and handed it to Freya. "There's ten million dollars on this card. Spend it wisely; it should last you a lifetime. Someone will pick you up in Riverview. I've prepared a villa for you there, and it's already in your name. Freya, once you get to Riverview, live a good life and don't make any more mistakes."
