Chapter 486 Should I Keep This Child
Josep lit a cigarette, took a drag, and said, "Your plan's good, but you missed something."
"What?"
"Even if Darian's not faking it and really lost his memory, Cecily doesn't matter to him anymore. Same goes for Freya. He wouldn't go after Cecily for Freya."
"Is that so?" Percy grinned. "That might be true for Darian, but you forgot someone."
"Who?"
"Bryan." Percy squinted. "I saw the news. Even though Freya's just Bryan's adopted daughter, he treats her like his own. He won't ignore her. With Bryan involved, this plan will work."
Josep exhaled a long puff of smoke, a glint in his eyes.
The funeral was halfway through.
Aurelie took Cecily to a quieter spot to sit. She looked at Cecily's tired face and gently touched her own belly. "It's weird, we're both pregnant, but your morning sickness is way worse than mine."
Cecily smiled and joked, "Maybe your baby is just more well-behaved."
"Is that so?" Aurelie smiled. "Then my baby will probably be quiet and well-behaved when its born."
Aurelie couldn't hide her smile as she imaged her future baby.
Cecily propped her chin and looked at Aurelie's hopeful expression, her lips curving. "So, are you planning to keep this baby?"
It had been a while since they had gone to the hospital to decide on an abortion. Aurelie hadn't mentioned it since, and Cecily and Vivienne had avoided the topic.
Aurelie's hand stiffened when she heard that, her eyes trembled, and her smile faded.
"I..."
She wanted to keep the baby.
But she couldn't accept that her baby would be born without a father. And now that Nathaniel was marrying Lillian, what would her baby be? Would it be an illegitimate child, just like Lillian said?
Aurelie's eyes welled up with tears as she thought about it.
"Cecily, I want this child, but I can't imagine the trouble I'll be in after giving birth. Maybe I'm too cowardly and irresponsible, afraid to face the consequences. I'm really worried." Aurelie choked up, unable to speak.
The emotions hit suddenly. Cecily handed her some tissues to wipe her tears. "Don't cry, being upset can cause a miscarriage."
Aurelie quickly wiped her face when she heard that, sobbed twice, held back her tears, and looked at Cecily with red eyes. "Really?"
Aurelie quickly composed herself.
Cecily smiled helplessly and affectionately. "You see, you get so nervous about a miscarriage. This isn't how a mother who doesn't want her baby would react. You've already made up your mind, you're just scared and overthinking things."
Aurelie sniffled. "Cecily, you're so mean, you tricked me."
"Who's tricking you? Bad emotions can affect pregnancy hormones and increase the risk of miscarriage. I'm not lying."
"Then why didn't you say so earlier? I've cried secretly so many times at night." Aurelie pursed her lips, looking down and stroking her belly. "My baby must feel so wronged with a mom like me."
Cecily chuckled softly, then looked seriously at Aurelie. "So keep it. If you're afraid you can't raise it, I'll help you. It would be great for Rowan and Griffin to have a little brother or sistert. They'd be wonderful big brothers."
Aurelie had pictured that scene.
As she watched Rowan and Griffin bicker, she had fantasized about her baby being born, growing up, learning to talk, run, and call her mom.
Thinking about it made Aurelie tear up with excitement.
Cecily watched her, not wanting to rush her to decide.
After a while, determination finally appeared in Aurelie's eyes. She grabbed Cecily's hand tightly. "Cecily, I want to have this baby. My baby will be the big brother or sister to yours."
Cecily placed her hand over Aurelie's and nodded. "Okay."
Aurelie smiled through her tears.
"Cheer up, stop crying." Cecily handed her a tissue.
"What got you two so emotional?" Evander came over with two bottles of water. When he saw both Cecily and Aurelie with red eyes, he bent down to look at them. "Your eyes will be swollen tomorrow."
"Get out of here." Aurelie quickly composed herself. "Why are you here?"
"The event's almost over, and I have to leave early. I saw you two sitting here crying non-stop, so I came to check on you."
Evander opened a bottle of water for Cecily. "I saw you feeling sick earlier. Are you better now?"
Cecily took the water. "Much better. By the way, I haven't thanked you for taking me to the hospital that day."
"It was nothing, don't mention it." Evander's phone rang urgently, indicating he really had something pressing to see to. "They're calling me, I have to go. You two should head back soon too."
"Okay."
Aurelie watched Evander leave and then looked at Cecily. "Actually, Evander is a really good man. He's genuinely in love with you. Not many men can do that. Have you considered marrying him?"
Cecily smiled. "Don't joke around. He deserves a better girl, not me."
Aurelie nodded and didn't continue the topic. "Let's go get Aunt Vivienne and head back early. After all, this funeral is fake, and Owen..."
Cecily quickly gestured to stop her.
Aurelie immediately shut up and gave an OK sign.
Cecily and Aurelie searched around but couldn't find Vivienne. Instead, they saw Bryan stopping Darian.
"Wait, let's hear what they're saying." Aurelie pulled Cecily to hide behind a wall.
"Let's go, eavesdropping is bad."
"What's so bad about it? One is your biological father, and the other is your child's biological father."
Cecily remained silent.
Darian looked at the serious-faced Bryan across from him. Before Darian could speak, Bryan said, "I know you've lost your memory and don't remember me. I'm Freya's father. I'm here to talk to you about breaking off the engagement with Freya."
Darian casually sat on a nearby chair. "Please, have a seat."
Bryan glanced at him and sat down opposite Darian.
"You don't like Freya. I'm sure this engagement wasn't your idea. If you agree, I'll talk to your family about calling it off."
Darian tilted his head and looked at him. "How do you know it wasn't my idea? At my age, I need a wife, don't I? Whether I like her or not doesn't matter to me."
Bryan was speechless. "But before you lost your memory, you had someone you loved. Her name is Cecily. You have two children together, and there were many unpleasant incidents between you and Freya. Just because you forgot doesn't mean they didn't happen."
Bryan was so anxious he slammed the table.
Not far away, Cecily's eyebrows twitched as she strained to hear Darian's response.
