Chapter 540 The Paternity Test is Fake
Knocks sounded on the door, and a nurse walked in.
"Miss Watson, I'm sorry, but Ms. Cruz in Room 1302 wants to see you. Are you available?"
"No, I'm not," Cecily replied bluntly.
The nurse looked a bit troubled. "Miss Watson, if you have a moment, could you please go see her?"
"Go back and tell her I don't want to see her."
"But she's been calling your name constantly. She seems to only recognize you. She has no family around, and she's seriously disturbing other patients." The nurse was embarrassed.
Cecily didn't want to make it hard for the nurse. She said, "She has a father named Bryan, who lives next door to me. Go get him to calm her down."
Bryan had moved his ward next to Cecily's to be close to her. He had paid a hefty sum to get the previous patient to agree to the switch.
Just as Bryan, walking on his crutch, reached Cecily's room, he heard her words, his face involuntarily revealing sadness.
Cecily noticed Bryan. "Just in time. Your precious daughter is going crazy and disturbing other patients. Go check on her."
The nurse looked to Bryan for help.
Bryan's gaze fell on Cecily. After a moment of hesitation, he said, "Let's go together. She's done so many wrong things, and she should apologize to you no matter what."
Bryan had learned from Sam that Vivienne had gone to see him that day to deliver the paternity test. Freya had seen the test and then ran away, intending to kill Cecily in a desperate move.
Vivienne had simply taken advantage, setting everything up for Freya to face the consequences.
"Am I going to see her apologize, or to witness your father-daughter bond?" Cecily's voice was cold.
"Our relational is over. I won't help her anymore," Bryan said gravely.
Cecily didn't take his words seriously. Anyone could say things, but many couldn't follow through.
A few minutes later, a shouted sounded.
"Cecily, get out here! I'm going to kill you!"
As soon as they reached the hallway, Cecily and Bryan heard Freya's shrill voice.
Bryan's face darkened, and then he limped over and pushed open the door. Freya's sharp curses became even clearer.
Cecily smirked and walked in to see Freya's upper body wrapped tightly in bandages, a testament to her severe burns. Yet, she still had the energy to curse her non-stop. Freya's vitality was indeed remarkable.
Freya lay on the bed. When she saw Bryan, a glimmer of hope ignited in her eyes.
"Dad, you must have found out by now that they set me up. They wanted to harm me. Dad, I know you were deceived by them, so you didn't save me then. I don't blame you. Go kill them. We need to get revenge."
"Freya, do you know what you're saying? You want me to kill my own wife and biological daughter?" Bryan looked at Freya, full of disappointment.
Freya's eyes widened for a few seconds, then she quickly said, "No, Dad, it's not like that. Did they show you the paternity test? It's fake. They planned to trap us. It's all part of their scheme. Dad. Don't believe them."
Bryan's face was clouded with anger.
"Let me ask you, why didn't you stay home? What made you risk your life and try to drag Cecily down with you?"
"Because of that fake paternity test! I was afraid you'd abandon me and take revenge on me once you had your biological daughter. So I struck first. How was I to know it was all their plan?"
Driven by her desperation to persuade Bryan into believing that the paternity test was fake, Freya succumbed to panic and impulsively divulged all of her thoughts.
She then quickly added, "Dad, you have to believe me. Don't fall for their trap."
Cecily leaned against the door, unable to suppress a smile.
That was a dead giveaway.
Bryan listened to Freya's words, feeling nothing but anger and exhaustion.
"Don't call me Dad anymore. Freya, I've bent over backwards for you. I've advised you, tried you stop you, and even given you a hand. From now on, what happens to you is none of my concern."
Was Bryan really giving up on her?
Freya couldn't believe it. "Why? I'm the one who was set up this time. I'm the one burned beyond recognition. Why are you siding with her? "
"Don't you understand?" Bryan's voice rose unconsciously. "Did anyone force you to look at that paternity test and take gasoline and start a fire? When will you realize that you were wrong? I've told you, stop trying to harm others. Why won't you listen?"
Freya gave a bitter smile and shouted at Bryan, "Isn't it because of you? Why did you keep wondering if you had a biological daughter when you already had me? I was scared. I have no other family. If you abandon me, I don't know what I'll do. And Cecily has everything. Why does she have to take away my only family? What right does she have to take my father?"
Freya, with tears streaming down her face, continued to cry and blame others.
Even Bryan was momentarily stunned by her words.
Cecily burst into laughter, accidentally opening her abdominal wound, causing sharp pain, but she kept laughing.
"Cecily?" Bryan was a bit confused.
Cecily's face was full of amusement as she looked at Bryan and then at Freya. "You two are absurd."
"What are you laughing at?" Freya gritted her teeth. "Did I say something wrong?"
Cecily looked at Freya. "If you hadn't been so self-destructive,my biological father would have continued to dote on you. He even considered letting you inherit his company. You enjoyed the fatherly love that was rightfully mine. Now that he knows I'm his biological daughter, you say I'm the one taking something from you?"
How laughable.
Hadn't she always been the one who lost the most?
Cecily said, "You two carry on. I have to leave. If you keep screaming at me, I'm going to shut you up."
With that, Cecily strode out.
"Cecily." Bryan reached out but couldn't catch even a shadow of her.
Seeing Cecily's attitude towards Bryan, Freya let out a strange laugh. "It seems your precious biological daughter doesn't think much of you. She doesn't even want to acknowledge you. Dad, why don't you just forget about her? I've always been the one by your side."
Bryan ignored Freya's words. Both she and he had brought themselves to this point through their own actions.
The next day, Cecily was discharged.
Cecily didn't allow Darian to come, considering that Josep was still keeping a close watch on him. Moreover, she believed that his presence in the early morning would draw too much attention.
Aurelie and Vivienne accompanied Cecily for her discharge. After completing all the formalities, Karen walked in from outside.
Karen appeared to be in high spirits, exuding elegance and radiance.
Unconsciously, Cecily looked at Vivienne. Compared to Karen, Vivienne was dressed more modestly. Although she wore light makeup and looked well, something seemed to be missing.
Cecily had a nagging feeling of unease, fearing that one day Vivienne might suddenly disappear like she did when Cecily was a child.
"Mom." Cecily took a deep breath. "I've lost so much already. I don't want to lose anything more. Can you stay with me every day from now on?"
Vivienne smiled gently. "Why are you saying this all of a sudden?"
Cecily shook her head. "Maybe it's just that too much has happened recently. I'm so afraid of losing more. So, can you promise me?"
Vivienne wanted to say yes.
Unfortunately, shemight only be able to stay with her for a little while longer.
"Cecily." Karen walked over and interrupted.
The conversation was cut short. Cecily hid her emotions and smiled faintly, "Aunt Karen, I'm being discharged today. Thank you for coming to see me."
"You're welcome. I heard you were being discharged today, so I came specifically to pick you up." Karen smiled.
"Pick me up?"
"Yes. Vivienne and Aurelie too. Since you're being discharged today, we should celebrate, right?"
Vivienne and Aurelie exchanged glances. Seeing that Cecily didn't seem inclined to refuse, they understood and remained silent.
"Aunt Karen, where are we celebrating? I should be the one treating you. I've been in the hospital for so long and haven't properly thanked you for taking care of me."
Karen laughed. "We're family. There's no need to be so formal. As for where we're going, you'll find out soon."
Bryan, in the next room, overheard the conversation. Watching Cecily leave with Karen, he called out to Vivienne, "Vivienne, since when did Cecily get so close to the Lockwood family?"
They were even calling themselves family. Bryan found it odd.
Vivienne explained, "The Lockwood family has been eyeing Cecily, hoping she will marry into their family."
Bryan's brow furrowed more tightly. He knew he had no right to interfere in Cecily's affairs, but he had placed her in the most important position to protect her.
The Lockwood family wanted to marry his daughter? Wishful thinking!
Vivienne had already walked away, while Bryan was lost in thought. He hobbled after her on his crutch.
Vivienne glanced at him. "Why are you following me?"
"Cecily is my daughter. If she's getting married, I have to approve."Bryan shouted.
"Cecily doesn't acknowledge you and doesn't need you meddling in her affairs. Are you trying to be annoying?"Karen sneered. Bryan remained undeterred, still hobbling after her. "It's okay.I don't mind a bit of criticism."
