Chapter 622: Not Only to Steal, But Also to Destroy

Nathaniel was holed up in this super hush-hush private hospital, the same one Owen had crashed at before. So, apart from a few folks, no one had a clue Nathaniel was back in town.

Aurelie stood there, hesitating at Nathaniel's hospital room door. Things were kinda awkward between them, especially since he was hitched to Lillian now.

"What are you doing?" Nathaniel's voice suddenly cut through the silence, making Aurelie jump.

She looked up and remembered the little window on the door, letting people peek in and out.

Aurelie grabbed the door handle and gently pushed it open.

Nathaniel put down his phone, his eyes locked on her, "Why are you standing at the door?"

"I went to the Lewis Manor with Cecily. Lillian thinks you're dead. Cecily and I found it weird, so we didn't spill the beans that you're still kicking." Aurelie replied.

Nathaniel listened, stayed quiet for a sec, then nodded, "Good call. Stanley must've fed her that I was dead."

Lillian had probably been fuming these past few days and wouldn't have thought to send someone to tail him. So, she couldn't have known about his situation in Fluvoria unless someone tipped her off.

And the only one who knew he got nabbed by the casino folks was Stanley. So, it had to be Stanley who blabbed.

"Stanley, your brother?" Aurelie frowned. He was the dude who had blocked her from leaving Silver Frost Capital for Detroit that day.

Thinking about it, Aurelie realized Stanley and Nathaniel didn't vibe, and Nathaniel's dad, Terry, even wanted her to spy on Nathaniel, showing they didn't trust him.

Did this mean Nathaniel, who seemed to be just chilling every day, wasn't what he seemed?

"Do you have beef with the Kensington family?" Aurelie suddenly asked.

Nathaniel's eyes darkened as he looked at Aurelie, "Why do you ask?"

"You and your family don't get along. Your brother and dad are super wary of you. If it were just family drama, it wouldn't be this bad." She explained.

Aurelie's observation was spot on, but Nathaniel didn't bite.

There was definitely some bad blood!

Eleven years ago, Stanley, scared Nathaniel would be his biggest rival for the family fortune, sent some goons to ambush him, planning to mess him up. Back then, Nathaniel had no clue Stanley would go that far.

He fought like hell to get away from those guys. The next day, one of them died from serious injuries. The cops tracked Nathaniel through surveillance, and the others fingered him.

He couldn't defend himself, but he knew he didn't do it. No weapons, just his fists, and there was no way he caused a death.

He was only nineteen then. The Kensington family didn't even bother to get him a lawyer, and Terry ghosted him, leaving him high and dry.

The whole thing was shady as hell.

Why did those guys come after him? Someone put them up to it.

Why did someone die when he didn't go lethal? Someone pulled the strings.

Why didn't Terry dig into it or get him a lawyer, just left him hanging?

Nathaniel chewed on these questions for a long time in the slammer.

Why?

Maybe Terry had someone else he wanted to cover for.

If they dug into it, that person would be outed.

Between that person and Nathaniel, Terry chose to protect the other guy.

And who was that person? Had to be Stanley!

Out of Terry's sons, Nathaniel and Stanley were the top dogs. After Nathaniel got locked up, no one could challenge Stanley for the Kensington family throne. He was the big winner in all this.

Seeing the whole picture, Nathaniel found it kinda funny.

He never wanted to go head-to-head with Stanley for anything, let alone the family fortune.

But Stanley saw him as a threat, always wanting to take him out.

"Nathaniel?" Aurelie called out, snapping him back to reality.

Nathaniel met her worried eyes, keeping his face calm but feeling a bit uneasy inside.

She still thought he had saved her, but in reality, it wasn't him.

He knew this but hadn't come clean.

Thinking about it made Nathaniel feel guilty.

"Yeah, I got beef with them," Nathaniel replied to Aurelie but didn't want to dive into it.

He added, "Since you haven't told Lillian I'm still kicking, let's keep it that way. If anyone asks, just say I'm dead."

Aurelie figured Nathaniel had his reasons, so she nodded, "Okay, got it."

Nathaniel's eyes darkened.

Since Stanley thought he was dead, let him keep thinking that.

Just then, his phone buzzed with a new message.

Nathaniel checked it.

In three days, the Kensington Group's shareholders' meeting would go down, where Terry would officially crown Stanley as the heir, giving him the keys to the kingdom.

Nathaniel looked at the message and smirked. 'Keep dreaming!'

He never wanted to compete with Stanley before.

But now, he not only wanted to compete but also to completely wreck him.
