Chapter371 The True Culprit
Cecily said, "That car accident years ago wasn't an accident; it was deliberate."
Owen's eyes narrowed as he looked at Cecily. "You're saying this on purpose because of your mother, aren't you?"
Cecily lowered her eyes and gently shook her head. "This matter involves too much. If I didn't have evidence, I wouldn't dare speak recklessly in front of you. You might as well look at my evidence first."
Owen, seeing the sincerity in Cecily's expression, reached out and took the manila envelope she handed him. Inside were photos of a villa, a stack of screenshots of remittance details, and a USB drive.
"What does all this mean?" Owen had some doubts.
"The driver who was driving Mr. Patrick that year, the same driver who was in the car accident, was Dominic. This is the villa where his wife and children currently live."
Owen squinted his eyes. "Are you suggesting someone bribed Dominic to cause the accident?"
"Exactly. Otherwise, after Dominic's death, his wife and children couldn't possibly afford to live in a villa. Moreover, look at these remittance records. These are the payments received by Dominic's wife and his brother over time."
Owen understood Cecily's implication. She wanted to tell him that someone had bribed Dominic to kill Patrick.
Owen asked, "But these remittance records show payments a year after Patrick's accident. Couldn't they have earned the money through other means?"
Cecily nodded lightly. "That's the clever part of the person behind this.
The accident had already been classified as an accidental car crash. A year later, they transferred the money to Dominic's family in small amounts from different anonymous accounts. Even if it were investigated, nothing could be traced back."
Owen's eyes narrowed sharply. "Why should I believe you? Evidence can be fabricated. I knew Dominic's character; he was our family's driver for half his life. He wouldn't do such a thing."
"It seems you still think I'm lying to you for my mother's sake. Then please continue to look at what's on this USB drive." Cecily saw a laptop on the table, walked over, and brought it back, inserting the USB drive.
Soon, a video appeared on the screen, showing Eliza on the day she was exposed in the party hall, frantically speaking to Darian. "It was Vivienne who killed your father. Father was originally going to take me to school, but this woman sent him a message. Then he called her and changed his route to the airport. On the way to the airport, the car lost control!"
Cecily paused the video.
The words "the car lost control" clearly fell into Owen's ears.
Owen's hand tightened on his knee.
"I later specifically sent someone to retrieve this surveillance footage. It was because I heard this sentence that I began to suspect this matter, and subsequently, I investigated and uncovered this evidence. Owen, Eliza was the only survivor in the car that day. You wouldn't think she was speaking nonsense, would you?" Cecily's gaze fell on Owen, who sat motionless after seeing the evidence.
"What I'm about to say next might be hard for you to accept, but it's the truth. Someone tampered with the car that day, making the loss of control inevitable. That person also bribed Dominic to ensure the murder was foolproof. So, as long as Mr. Patrick got in the car that day, an accident was certain."
Hearing this, Owen tightly clenched the papers in his hand. Leaning on his cane, he stood up, his aged body trembling violently.
Cecily reached out to support him. Owen pressed hard on his cane to avoid falling and raised his hand. "Continue."
Seeing Owen's state, Cecily felt a pang of heartache.
The pain of his most cherished son being trapped in a car and perishing in the flames of a crash was something only Owen could truly understand.
So, without solid evidence proving it was deliberate, Cecily dared not rashly tell him.
Cecily continued to explain, "I admit I had personal motives for investigating this. You hated my mother because of this incident and prevented Darian and me from being together. If this matter isn't clarified, Darian and I might never be together. But all that is secondary. The person who plotted against Mr. Patrick is still at large. Do you remember Darian's car accident? Perhaps that wasn't an accident either."
Owen looked sharply at Cecily, his whole body trembling. "That person caused my son's death in a car crash and even wanted to use the same method to kill my grandson."
Cecily pressed her lips tightly. "If we don't find this person, they will certainly strike again."
Owen took a deep breath. "Do you have a suspect?"
"The Fitzgerald family is vast and wealthy. Over the years, many have had their eyes on The Fitzgerald family, and they have no shortage of enemies. I can't be certain, but there's one person who would benefit the most if Patrick and Darian were both dead," added Cecily.
Owen furrowed his brow. "You're talking about Joseph?"
