Chapter 512 Why Did You Harm Cecily?

Leaning against the hospital bed, Cecily asked the others to go out, leaving only her and Evander in the ward.

"Sit down," Cecily said.

Evander couldn't look Cecily in the eye. His lips trembled as he asked, "Are you okay?"

Cecily didn't answer him. Instead, she asked, "Can you tell me how you knew I was in danger that day?"

That day, Cecily didn't have much time to think about the explanation given by the person with Evander. Now, however, it seemed increasingly suspicious.

Did Evander really know she was in danger just because he called and she didn't answer, and then came to find her out of fear?

Cecily pondered carefully. There were four groups of people that day: one group chasing her and Darian, one group with Darian, one group with Blaise, and the last group brought by Evander.

First, she ruled out the people chasing them. They had already been captured and had no chance to shoot.

Furthermore, Darian and Blaise trusted their associates implicitly, making it highly unlikely that someone from within their groups would suddenly attempt to harm her. Hence, the shooter must have originated from outside of either Darian or Blaise's circle of trust.

Lastly, although she had known Evander for many years and knew he wouldn't harm her, she couldn't be sure about his people.

After ruling out all other possibilities, the shooter could only be among the people Evander brought.

Evander looked up at Cecily's pale and weak face, a flash of guilt passing silently through his eyes.

However, he still said, "I saw the news online, called you, and you didn't answer. I was afraid you were in danger, so I brought people to find you."

It was the same explanation, but Cecily didn't believe Evander's words.

He did call her. At that time, she had already been kidnapped and couldn't answer the phone. It was reasonable for him to be worried and suspect something had happened to her.

However, the problem was that he found her location with his people just thirty minutes after calling her. Darian had gathered everyone and conducted a thorough search, which took over an hour. How did Evander find her in just thirty minutes?

It didn't make sense.

His speed was as if he knew exactly where she was being kidnapped and came directly to rescue her.

Cecily's gaze was fixed on Evander. His hands, resting on his knees, clenched nervously. "You don't believe me?"

"Evander, you're not good at lying."

Cecily clearly caught the complex mix of emotions in Evander's eyes.

All of Evander's subtle actions were telling Cecily that he was lying.

Moreover, he had already guessed what had happened but was unwilling to say it.

Evander finally looked up and gazed deeply at Cecily. After a few seconds of thought, he seemed to make a decision and said, "I'll give you an explanation."

Evander couldn't stay there any longer, nor could he admit that Cecily's ordeal might be related to Percy.

He quickly lowered his head, hiding his emotions.

Evander fled in a hurry. Outside, Darian saw Evander come out, his brows furrowed.

In fact, everyone had guessed that the shooter was definitely among the people Evander brought.

But there was no evidence to prove it.

Evander's eyelids twitched as he looked at Darian. He said, "Don't worry. I won't tell anyone about your matter. Blaise has already warned me. If anyone asks, I know what to say."

With that, Evander quickly left.

Darian said nothing and walked straight into the ward. Cecily was staring blankly at one spot.

"I don't seem to have any grudge against the Lockwood family!" Cecily murmured softly, her face filled with confusion as to why the Lockwood family would want to harm her.

She really had no enmity with the Lockwood family. In fact, she had been friends with Evander for many years, and Bella had always been nice to her.

So why would the Lockwood family want to harm her?

She really couldn't figure it out.

Evander returned the Lockwood family from the hospital.

Home, which was supposed to be a warm place, was somewhere Evander was reluctant to return to because it was filled with schemes and calculations that he found repulsive.

Upon seeing Evander, the servants happily ran to inform everyone in the house.

Evander had been missing for three days, and the Lockwood family was extremely worried.

Karen, who had been crying in her room, rushed out as soon as she saw Evander downstairs, not caring about anything else.

"Evander."

Percy and Bella also hurried downstairs.

Percy hadn't expected Evander to come back on his own. Did this mean Blaise hadn't found anything or suspected the Lockwood family, so he let Evander return safely?

Everyone surrounded Evander with questions, but Evander's eyes were fixed on Percy.

"I need to talk to you," Evander said coldly.

Evander's obviously unusual demeanor and tone instantly brought the atmosphere to a freezing point. Karen's gaze shifted between Percy and Evander. "Evander, how can you talk to your father like that?"

"Mom, stay out of this." Evander walked straight upstairs.

Percy raised an eyebrow, and Karen looked worried. "Percy, what's going on?"

Percy glanced upstairs, pressed his lips together, and quickly followed.

In the study, Evander walked to the liquor cabinet, opened the glass door, took out a bottle of wine, opened it, and took a few swigs.

Percy walked over and sat down on a single sofa, watching Evander's current state, understanding everything.

Evander's eyes were full of anger. "What did Cecily ever do to you? Why did you want to harm her?"
