Chapter 710 Someone is Sowing Discord
Giselle's eyes showed a hint of murderous intent.
Cecily had indeed spent the entire morning reflecting in her room as she said she would. Darian had left early for Silver Frost Capital today. Cecily thought it was too exhausting for Darian to commute back and forth every day.
She wondered if she should return to Silver Frost Capital after her birthday, so Darian wouldn't have to travel so much.
Now that she had clashed with Giselle and the others, they probably hated her guts today and might be plotting how to continue their battle of wits with her.
If she didn't go back, she would always be seen as an enemy trying to take over their company, and they would use endless tactics against her.
Cecily didn't want much now—just to find Vivienne and safely give birth to the baby in her belly.
But if she stayed here, she would never have peace or safety.
"Mommy, what are you thinking about?" Rowan and Griffin, who were sitting nearby watching the computer, saw Cecily staring off into space and Griffin asked with concern.
Cecily snapped back to reality and said, "Mommy is planning to go back to Silver Frost Capital."
Rowan and Griffin's eyes lit up. "We want to go back too."
Rowan and Griffin were still more accustomed to life in Silver Frost Capital. The Bennett family had all sorts of rules and restrictions, but in Silver Frost Capital, at their own home, Cecily and Darian would let them be as wild as they wanted.
"But didn't you want to see Grandma? Where did Grandma go? We've been here so long and haven't seen her," Rowan said to Cecily.
Cecily patted Rowan's head and smiled bitterly. Not only had Rowan and Griffin not seen Vivienne, but she herself hadn't seen her once since coming here.
"Yeah, Mommy, where's Grandma? Why haven't we seen her after being here so long?" Griffin also asked.
"I want to know where she is too. Maybe she's playing hide and seek with us."
Griffin pursed his lips. "So should we go look for Grandma?"
"She's hiding too well; we haven't found her yet," Cecily could only say to Rowan and Griffin.
"Oh, but Mommy's birthday is coming up in a few days. Grandma will definitely come out for Mommy's birthday, right?" Griffin asked again.
Cecily's eyes dimmed a bit, and she lowered her gaze, her eyelashes trembling slightly. "Yes, she will definitely come for Mommy's birthday."
Griffin hummed softly. "Then we have to ask Grandma why she's hiding and not seeing us. We all miss her."
Cecily forced a smile. "Alright, you can ask her why when the time comes."
"Cecily, Rowan, and Griffin, come down for dinner," Aurelie called as she walked in.
"Okay, coming."
Rowan and Griffin ran up and grabbed Aurelie's hand. "Are you about to have a baby? Be careful."
Aurelie's belly had grown significantly in recent times. At almost six months, it looked bigger than some people's at seven months, making it seem like she was about to give birth.
"I know, Cecily reminds me every day, and now you two as well," Aurelie said with a gentle smile.
"It's just that your belly is getting bigger every day, and we're afraid you'll fall," Cecily said as she walked over to Aurelie.
"It's not that easy to fall. But you need to be extra careful in the first three months."
Cecily smiled lightly. "I know, I'm being very careful. Let's go downstairs to eat."
"Okay."
After lunch, Cecily went to the company in the afternoon. After the morning's commotion, Hunter and the other two hadn't gone to the company. Last night's incident had spread widely, and even people at the company knew about it.
As soon as Cecily arrived at the company, she heard a few people waiting for the elevator discussing.
"Did you hear about what happened last night?"
"Which thing?"
"About Miss Bennett stealing a ring at the party. It's all over the company. Miss Bennett actually stole something and got caught red-handed at that kind of party. It's so embarrassing."
"How could that be? You must have heard wrong. Miss Bennett is the second daughter of the Bennett family. The last thing she lacks is money. Why would she steal a ring? You must have heard wrong. Don't spread such rumors. You know Miss Bennett's temper. If she hears about this, you'll definitely get fired."
"No, it's not me spreading it. Everyone in the company knows. Apparently, Miss Bennett and Ms. Bennett had a conflict at the party. Miss Bennett and her friends falsely accused Ms. Bennett and her child. When they searched, the missing ring was found in Miss Bennett's bag. The police even came last night, and Miss Bennett was caught on the spot. It's so embarrassing. Didn't you notice she didn't come to the company today?"
"Really? Is that true? How did you guys find out about something that happened at such a high-society party?"
"I'm curious too. Anyway, everyone was talking about it this morning. It feels like someone deliberately spread the news, and that person is probably Ms. Bennett. You see, they had a conflict yesterday, so Ms. Bennett must hold a grudge against Miss Bennett. She might have spread the news on purpose to make Miss Bennett lose face."
"No way, they're sisters after all. No matter what, that's a bit too much."
"They're not real sisters. Even real sisters have conflicts. Don't be fooled by their seemingly good relationship. They might have been at odds behind the scenes all along. After all, Ms. Bennett is Vivienne's daughter and is here to inherit the company. Miss Bennett and the others are just obstacles to her. Ruining her reputation now is a great opportunity."
"I never thought of it that way, but you guys sure have vivid imaginations." A faint voice sounded from behind, making the two of them shiver.
The elevator doors opened, and Cecily walked past them and stepped into the elevator.
The two employees stood there, their backs stiff.
Cecily glanced at them indifferently. "Aren't you coming in?"
They hurriedly lowered their heads and walked into the elevator.
The elevator was silent, and Cecily didn't say much.
She couldn't understand how the news had spread so quickly, even becoming widely known in the company, making everyone think she was behind it, trying to ruin Giselle's reputation.
But she hadn't done anything and wouldn't think of doing such a thing.
The two people who had been discussing the matter now stood behind Cecily, exchanging nervous glances.
After a long internal struggle, one of them finally spoke, "Ms. Bennett, we didn't mean to discuss this behind your back. Please don't be angry."
Cecily nodded. "I'm not angry."
Hearing this, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Do you know who spread the news first?" Cecily asked.
They shook their heads. "We're not sure. We heard it when we came to the company this morning. Everyone was talking about it."
"So you all think I spread the news?" Cecily asked.
They exchanged glances again, and one of them said, "Ms. Bennett, that's what everyone is saying. I just repeated it."
Cecily said, "Don't be nervous. I'm just asking."
Cecily knew that someone must have deliberately guided everyone to think this way, which is why the rumor spread.
The elevator doors opened, and Cecily walked out. As she pushed open her office door, she saw a man standing inside.
The man had his back to the door, casually looking at something. Cecily frowned slightly. "Who are you?"
The man turned at the sound of her voice and smiled warmly. "Cecily."
Cecily squinted her eyes, carefully looking at the man in front of her before tentatively asking, "Rufus?"
"Yes, it's me. I was on a business trip a few days ago and just got back yesterday. I didn't see you when I came to the company this morning, so I guessed you might come by at noon. Looks like I guessed right."
Rufus was Keaen's son, whom Keaen had mentioned before.
"Is there something you need from me?"
Rufus walked over to her. "Nothing much, just wanted to see you. I met you once before, but your eyes hadn't recovered then."
Cecily nodded. She remembered Keaen had a daughter named Delphine, but she wasn't at the company. "So this is our official meeting. I remember you have a sister."
Rufus nodded and naturally sat on the sofa. "Yes, Delphine is studying medicine, just like you. You two should meet next time; you might have a lot in common."
"Okay."
"I originally thought I'd see Giselle and Hunter when I got back today, but none of them came to the company this morning. I even heard some ridiculous things at the company, like Giselle stealing something at the party last night." Rufus smiled. "You know about this, right?"
Cecily looked at the man in front of her, unsure of his intentions.
She believed the whole company knew about last night's incident. He couldn't be unaware of the details and was deliberately asking her these questions.
"Of course I know. Giselle was even punished with seventy strokes of the cane at the Bennett Mansion this morning," Cecily said as she sat on the sofa.
Just then, her assistant brought in coffee. Cecily poured a cup for herself and Rufus.
Rufus nodded and smiled. "Giselle did go too far last night. It's only right that you disciplined her."
