Chapter 367 The Wretched Should Be Cast Out
Cecily leaned against Vivienne's embrace and nodded, saying, "Alright."
Vivienne arranged for a doctor and servants specifically to take care of Cecily, but Cecily refused.
Everyone must learn to be independent. Even if she were blind for a lifetime, no one would be there to care for her forever.
Vivienne watched Cecily struggling to adapt to independence, tripping over things and falling down again and again, getting bruised and battered but standing up each time. Her hand hovered in the air, wanting to help, but Bryan pulled her back.
"She's right. She has to learn to adapt on her own."
Vivienne looked at Bryan with red eyes. "You don't care at all?"
Bryan paused briefly, then asked, "Why should I care for her? I only care about you."
After all, Cecily was Vivienne's daughter with someone else. It was already good enough that he didn't despise her; of course, he couldn't pity her. Bryan found it laughable.
Vivienne gritted her teeth, about to say something when Jennifer arrived with Freya.
Seeing them talking, Freya immediately clung to Bryan's arm coquettishly. "Dad."
"Freya? What brings you here?"
Freya looked up, her face full of smiles. "I haven't seen you for days. I missed you, so I came."
Freya glanced at Vivienne standing nearby. Her initial joy faded, replaced with a look of vulnerability. "Vivienne and Cecily are here too."
Vivienne sneered openly, her eyes falling on Bryan. "The daughter you raised seems to have some issues."
Cecily stood beside Vivienne, her cold voice asking faintly, "Though I can't see, this is the Bennett family, isn't it?"
Freya's face twisted awkwardly. But quick to react, she immediately lowered her head, eyes welling up. "Dad, maybe it's not a good time for Mom and me to be here? I just missed you so much, that's why we came. Aunt Vivienne and Cecily don't seem happy though."
Bryan frowned slightly.
Vivienne's face grew even colder.
It seemed that Freya, Bryan, and Jennifer looked more like a family.
"Desmond!" Vivienne called coldly.
Desmond walked over from the side. "Mrs. Bennett."
"When did the Bennett family become a place where anyone can come as they please?"
Desmond glanced at Jennifer and Freya. Without needing Vivienne to say more, he waved his hand, and four house guards immediately walked over, lifting them without a word.
Jennifer and Freya were shocked. "Vivienne, what are you doing? Don't you understand the principle of hospitality?"
"Coming in uninvited and acting like guests is a joke," Vivienne retorted, showing no interest in engaging further with the mother and daughter.
The Bennett family never showed courtesy, and they directly carried the two out horizontally.
"Bryan, save me..."
"Dad, I don't want to be carried out like this. Save me."
If she were thrown out like this, it would be utterly humiliating.
Bryan frowned, his voice deepening. "Vivienne, don't go too far. They haven't done anything wrong."
"Too much? This is the Bennett family, not the Whitaker family. I can do as I please. If I don't like you, I can throw you out just the same."
Vivienne spoke neither hurriedly nor angrily. Her calm tone carried an elegant indifference, yet it was immensely oppressive.
Bryan's face tightened as he said, "You really need to change your temper."
"I can't change it. If you have the guts, divorce me and marry Jennifer. After all, she's been by your side for years. It would be a pity if you two weren't together."
"You're simply unreasonable." Bryan gritted his teeth, unable to bring himself to truly scold Vivienne, and huffed away.
"Mom, you..." Hearing the argument nearby, Cecily's heart trembled.
Vivienne ignored Bryan and bent down to check the injury on Cecily's leg. "It's nothing. Don't worry about it. Did you hurt yourself when you fell just now?"
"Mom, you're pressing too hard."
"I'm sorry, I'll stop. You're so stubborn. Do you even know who you take after? Even if you're blind for life, I'll take care of you," Vivienne's voice was filled with concern.
Bryan's angry steps halted. He turned back to look at the mother and daughter, seeing the injury on Cecily's leg. He felt a blockage in his heart, an uncomfortable sensation.
Vivienne took Cecily to apply medicine. Cecily bit her lip, hesitant but unable to hold back. "Mom, what's going on between you and Uncle Bryan?"
Cecily had already noticed that Freya and Jennifer were trouble. Freya deliberately called Bryan 'dad', and the key point was that Bryan didn't stop her.
Vivienne despised their tactics, and Bryan always sided with them. She saw no need to waste her energy on this.
"Nothing much. I can handle it. You just focus on recovering. I'll make sure they are not allowed into the Bennett family again. Be careful if you encounter them next time, understand?"
"Okay, I understand."
Outside, Freya and Jennifer were unceremoniously thrown out, landing on the ground in utter disarray.
"Crazy woman, lunatic," Freya cursed angrily.
"Enough, stop cursing. She can't hear you anyway. Help me up."
They helped each other to their feet.
"Mom, aren't you angry at all? Why are they so arrogant? I don't even want to come to this wretched place."
Jennifer narrowed her eyes. "Didn't you notice that Cecily has moved back to the Bennett family?"
"So what if she moved back? What does that change?" Freya didn't understand Jennifer's point.
"Idiot." Jennifer poked Freya's forehead. "Cecily moved back to the Bennett family because Darian must have abandoned her for being blind. With Cecily gone, there's no one around Darian now. Freya, your chance has come."
"Mom, you mean..." Freya instantly understood Jennifer's implication and smiled. "I'll buy a ticket to Silver Frost Capital right away."
"Go ahead, seize the opportunity."
Jennifer looked at the Bennett family gate and sneered coldly, muttering to herself, "Vivienne, let's see who the final winner is. Not only will I take away your husband, but my daughter will also take away everything your daughter originally had. Let's see how this unfolds."
