Chapter 496 Rescuing Cecily

The moment before the gunshot, Bryan pushed Darian's hand, and the bullet missed Freya.

It was during these few seconds that Cecily, who was being held by Freya, fell into the hands of the kidnappers.

"Get in the car." Two kidnappers threatened Cecily with guns. "Don't come any closer, all of you back off, or I'll kill her right now."

Larkin immediately stopped the kidnappers who were trying to advance.

Cecily was tense, with a cold, gleaming knife pressed against her neck. No one dared to make a move.

The kidnappers shoved her into the car, warily watching the people around them, then quickly jumped in and drove away.

Darian had no time to deal with Bryan. Seeing Cecily being taken away not far off, he immediately straddled a motorcycle and, with a shout of "Leave no one behind," sped off like an arrow with the roar of the engine.Freya's eyes gleamed with a cruel satisfaction.

'Cecily, I want you dead. You won't leave here alive.' she thought.

A sharp slap landed on Freya's face, sending her head snapping to the side. She froze in that position, stunned. "Dad? Why did you hit me?"

Bryan asked in anguish, "Tell me, what were you doing just now?"

Freya covered her face, looking innocent. "I didn't do anything. I was just trying to protect Cecily."

Bryan could hardly believe the audacity of Freya's claim. For a moment, his anger flared so intensely that he wanted to tear off her mask of false innocence.

"I'm starting to wonder if your life is worth sacrificing Cecily's for," he said coldly.

With that, Bryan dashed off toward where Cecily was being taken.

Mark hadn't received any updates and hurriedly informed Josep, "There's no news from over there."

"Then what are you waiting for? Send someone to check it out," Josep said, raising his voice.

"Wait." Percy spoke up, "You've already sent quite a few people. Let me send my men this time."

Since Percy was willing to provide help, Josep was more than happy. "Since you're willing, thanks."

Percy smiled and nodded slightly. "I'll give the orders."

What Josep didn't know was that Percy had his own plans.

"Have the people we hired check out the situation. Help Josep's men if necessary, but remember one thing: don't reveal that they're from the Lockwood family." Percy ordered.

Percy's subordinate said, "Don't worry, those people are under our control, and we've paid them well. They won't betray us."

"Good." Percy continued, "Call Evander and tell him Cecily is in danger. He'll take people to rescue her."

Josep's plan this time was to test Darian, while Percy's goal was to use Josep to make Cecily completely lose faith in Darian.

If Evander went to rescue Cecily now, it would be enough for her to remember for a lifetime. Even if she still refused to marry Evander in the end, this favor would be enough for Cecily and the Bennett family to owe him a big one.

Percy's smile deepened.

"If Evander is going to rescue Cecily, should we keep Cecily's child?" The subordinate asked.

"Do you think it would look good for her to marry into the Lockwood family while pregnant?" Percy said.

The subordinate immediately lowered his head. "Yes, I understand."

Percy continued to instruct, "Arrange for some smart people to act accordingly. No matter what, Cecily's life must be spared, but the child in her belly must disappear."

"Understood."

At the Lockwood family.

Landon was lounging in the living room when he saw Evander dash out the door, barely pausing to grab his coat. He lifted an eyebrow and asked, "Where are you off to in such a hurry?"

"Cecily is in danger."

Landon put down the newspaper in his hand, his eyes narrowing behind his frameless glasses. "Who told you that?"

"Dad's people."

Landon immediately understood and sneered. "I advise you not to get involved."

Despite the warning, Evander hurried out the door. Landon shook his head, his expression veiled in secrecy.

Percy had always aimed to surpass the Fitzgerald family, aspiring to make the Lockwood family the top dynasty in Silver Frost Capital. In his eyes, every marriage, including his own, was just another tool in his scheme.

Landon smiled, but it was a cold smile.

"What makes you smile so happily?" Bella asked as she was helped over.

Landon immediately stood up and took Bella's arm from the servant. "Our family might be having a happy event soon. Of course, I'm happy."

"Oh? What happy event?"

"Of course, it's Evander's wedding," Landon said, seeing Bella's puzzled expression, and added, "It's the granddaughter-in-law you have your eye on."

"Are you saying Cecily will marry Evander?" Bella asked in disbelief.

"Maybe."

"Impossible." Bella shook her head. Although Bella had always hoped Cecily would end up with Evander, the deep bond between Cecily and Darian had always made her dismiss the idea as mere fantasy.

"This time, it might be different." Landon didn't elaborate.

At this moment, inside the car that took Cecily, a kidnapper was pressing a knife against her neck.

Darian, riding a black motorcycle, chased after them like the wind.

Cecily saw Darian speeding towards them on the motorcycle, risking his life. The gravelly, muddy road was wet and slippery, and Cecily's face turned pale.

Darian lowered his body, the wind inflating his suit like a balloon. He was like a lion charging through the hunting grounds, exuding a kingly aura.

The motorcycle's fuel tank was nearly empty. Darian gritted his teeth and twisted the throttle harder, increasing the speed once more.

The kidnapper in the car panicked and shouted frantically, "Drive faster!"

The kidnapper driving the car gripped the steering wheel tightly, flooring the gas pedal, but the speed couldn't increase any further.

Cecily's heart pounded wildly. Seeing the kidnapper beside her distracted, she gritted her teeth and knocked the knife out of his hand with a swift motion.

The kidnapper clutched his pained hand, glaring at Cecily with bloodshot eyes. "You're asking for death!"

Darian knew he couldn't keep up this chase. He shouted into the car, "Cecily, hold on tight."

Cecily gripped the seat in front of her with both hands, pulled her legs back, and tilted her head forward to brace herself against the violent impact.

In the next instant, Darian yanked the steering wheel sharply.

There was a cacophony of screeching tires and grinding metal as the car veered off course to avoid a motorcycle speeding towards the wheels. Instead, it crashed into a tree. The kidnappers' faces turned ashen as they slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. Cecily felt the jolt as the car hit something, shaking violently. She braced herself, instinctively squeezing her eyes shut.

An eerie silence followed the crash. The kidnapper holding Cecily, having not buckled his seatbelt and caught off guard, was knocked unconscious. The others fared no better.

Cecily’s eyes flew open, her heart racing wildly. Stumbling, she scrambled out of the car and ran desperately towards Darian, who lay sprawled on the ground.

"Darian?"

Cecily threw herself at him, hugging him tightly. "You scared me to death."

Darian had rolled on the ground a couple of times, injured and covered in mud. He took a breath. "Don't cry, it's okay."

Cecily trembled uncontrollably, tears blurring her vision as she threw herself into his arms. Darian, using one hand to hold her tightly, cupped the back of her head and kissed her passionately.

In the torrential rain, their breaths mingled, creating a cocoon of intimacy amidst the storm. Cecily's racing heart seemed to find solace in the moment, gradually calming as they shared this embrace.

Cecily wiped the rain and tears from her face. "Are you hurt? Let me see."

Darian helplessly let Cecily fumble around in his arms. "This isn't the best place for that. How about we check when we get back?"

Cecily finally helped Darian up by his arm.

Looking at the car, she worried, "You've exposed that you haven't lost your memory. What if these people tell Josep? What about Sandra?"

"Don't worry, they won't get the chance." Darian checked the time. They had come this far, and both were injured. Walking back was impossible, but Larkin should have dealt with those people and would be here soon.

"We'll talk about it when we get back." Cecily was barely holding herself up; she had no strength left.

A car approached from a distance, but it wasn't theirs. Darian squinted, sensing trouble.

The car stopped, and the people who got out were sent by Percy. "Mr. Fitzgerald, you really haven't lost your memory."

"He indeed hasn't lost his memory, but you will be the last to know that today."

A chaotic clamor of footsteps surged from all directions, and a team dressed in black swiftly encircled them.

"Who are you?"

Cecily’s gaze flickered with recognition. The voice was unmistakable.

Blaise, holding an umbrella, strode into the circle with his tall, imposing figure. His gaze fell on Cecily and Darian, who looked as if they had just escaped a disaster. Blaise's previously stern expression darkened further into a scowl.

"It seems I arrived a bit too late," Blaise said, handing the umbrella to Cecily. His glance at Darian was laced with clear disdain.
