Chapter 582: Is the Love Gone?

Nathaniel shut his eyes tight, trying to push down the gut-wrenching pain in his chest.

Aurelie's words echoed in his mind, "If I knew we'd end up like this, I wish you hadn't saved me that night. I'd rather have died than owe you anything."

'Who the heck saved her, and how did she get it twisted that it was me?'

Nathaniel scratched his head, feeling super annoyed.

Aurelie was in the hospital room, and Nathaniel was just standing outside, not sure if he should go in.

Inside, Aurelie was still out cold. Seeing her pale face, Nathaniel's fists clenched tighter, guilt written all over his face.

This wasn't what he wanted, not even close.

Right now, his heart felt like a black hole, like he was really about to lose her. It was killing him.

He hung his head in regret, wiped his face, and realized his eyes were wet.

He stood there forever, and the nurses passing by gave him weird looks until Aurelie's phone started ringing inside the room.

It was like he finally had a reason to go in. He rushed in, grabbed the phone, and was about to silence it when he saw Cecily was calling.

After a moment, Nathaniel answered.

Cecily's voice had a hint of surprise, "Why is it you? Where's Aurelie?"

Nathaniel glanced at Aurelie on the bed, his brow furrowing, and he didn't answer right away.

Cecily's tone turned icy, "What did you do to her?"

"Nothing, she's asleep." Nathaniel didn't spill about Aurelie's condition. If he did, Cecily would come flying over, rip him apart, and take Aurelie away.

He couldn't let Cecily do that.

"Asleep? With you? You're full of it." Cecily knew Aurelie too well. After what went down last time, there was no way she'd be with Nathaniel.

Plus, wasn't Nathaniel about to get hitched? Even if Aurelie still had feelings for him, she wouldn't be with him now.

So Cecily wasn't buying it.

Nathaniel stayed cool, "Believe what you want, she's safe. I'm hanging up."

Cecily stared at the disconnected call, feeling anxious, "What does he mean?"

Darian came out of the shower, saw her by the window, and wrapped his arms around her, "What's up? Who ticked you off?"

Cecily turned in Darian's arms and looked up at him, "It's Nathaniel. I'm not mad, but I called Aurelie, and he picked up. He said she's with him. That's total BS. I know Aurelie, she wouldn't be with Nathaniel now. Why's he holding her phone and lying to me? He wouldn't hurt her, would he?"

Thinking about it, Cecily got a bad feeling, "I gotta check. What if something really happened?"

Darian pulled her back, "Where are you gonna check?"

Cecily hesitated. Yeah, where would she even start? She didn't have a clue where Nathaniel had taken Aurelie.

"What if they really are together? You gonna bust into their room to catch them snoozing? That'd be hella awkward," Darian said, smirking at Cecily.

"Aurelie wouldn't be with him," Cecily shot back, dead serious.

"Okay, but Nathaniel wouldn't hurt her either," Darian replied.

Cecily's eyes flared, "Hasn't he done that enough already?"

Darian was stumped for a second.

After a beat, he said, "That's their mess to sort out. We can't butt in. Plus, where would you even find them at this hour? Aurelie's still carrying Nathaniel's kid. Why would he hurt her?"

Cecily, though worried, had to admit Darian had a point.

No matter how much of a jerk Nathaniel was, he wouldn't harm his own kid.

Cecily sighed, and Darian gently smoothed her furrowed brow, "Alright, don't stress."

Just then, the door flew open, and Griffin and Rowan came running in with their PJs, "Mommy and Daddy, can we sleep with you tonight?"

Cecily smiled at them, "Of course." How could she say no to that?

"No way," Darian immediately shot down the idea.

"If Mommy says yes, then it's a yes," Griffin and Rowan cheered, running to Cecily.

Darian raised an eyebrow at Cecily, "Really?"

Cecily couldn't help but laugh at his expression, "Why not?"

Darian's face darkened.

"Mommy, we're gonna take a bath. Can you help us?"

"No," Darian quickly refused.

"Why not?" Griffin pouted.

"Because you're big kids now and need to bathe yourselves," Darian said.

Rowan held up six fingers. "But we're only six. We're still kids. We just want Mommy to be with us today."

"Still no. She can only bathe with me," Darian said, tossing Griffin and Rowan into the bathroom, "Go bathe yourselves."

Cecily laughed and followed them, pushing Darian in too, "You could bathe with them. Be a good daddy."

Darian's face darkened even more. Not only did he lose his private time with Cecily, but now he had to help Griffin and Rowan bathe.

Seeing their expectant eyes, Darian pursed his lips and silently walked over.

Cecily laughed outside until she heard the chaos from the bathroom. She suddenly thought this might've been a mistake.

Griffin and Rowan shouted, "Daddy, be gentle. Do you even know how to scrub backs?"

"Daddy, you're so clumsy. That's for bathing, not for washing hair."

"Daddy."

With their constant comments, Darian finally snapped, "Are you two girls? Why so delicate?"

Griffin looked hurt, "But Mommy is always very patient when she bathes us. Why don't you have any patience? Don't you love us anymore?"

In the bathroom, they stared at each other.

Cecily walked over and saw Darian using body wash to wash Griffin and Rowan's hair. The bathroom was a disaster. When Griffin and Rowan saw Cecily, they looked at her for help, their little faces full of grievance.
