Chapter 292 Fake Wears Fake, Suits Her Well
The door of the hall slowly opened, and a figure appeared at the entrance. Everyone's gaze turned towards the door. For a moment, they thought they were seeing things. 'Is that... the Bennett family's heiress? No! If the person at the door is the Bennett family's heiress, then who is the one in the front? And if the one in the front is the Bennett family's heiress, then who is this identical woman at the door?' they wondered.
Guests unfamiliar with the truth were visibly dumbfounded, looking back and forth between the two women who not only shared the same face but were also dressed identically. It seemed utterly unbelievable. 'Could this be a perfect replica?' they thought.
"My goodness, what is happening?"
"Two heiresses of the Bennett family? Identical? Could it be that I'm seeing things?"
"I also saw two identical people. Am I also seeing things?"
The banquet hall was instantly thrown into a commotion as everyone looked back and forth between the person at the door and the one in the front, their faces a mask of bewilderment.
Eliza stood at the front, her heart skipping a beat as she looked at Cecily who had appeared at the door. She clenched her hands tightly, a sense of crisis overwhelming her. Cecily had actually made it through; she had actually come. And she was wearing the same dress as Eliza! How could this be? Eliza tried to control her expression, but a look of panic still escaped her.
Cecily confidently walked forward, causing a stir among the guests.
Eliza's eyes stared deeply at Cecily. She bit her lower lip and glanced at the dress Cecily was wearing, a sneer of disdain forming on her face. How dare she wear a fake dress to this event? She was asking for trouble, and Eliza wouldn't let this opportunity pass.
Desmond wanted to say something, but Eliza took the microphone from his hand and spoke firmly, "I'm sure everyone is wondering how there can be two identical people. Well, let me tell you. This person, who also goes by the name Cecily, is trying to impersonate me. She has been exposed and kicked out of the Bennett family once before. I never expected her to have the audacity to wear the same attire as me and show up at an event like this."
Eliza glared at Cecily, her anger palpable as she questioned, "Have you no shame? Do you really want to replace me that badly?"
After her inquiry, she turned to the guests and asked, "I want to ask all of you, what should we do about such a troublesome and shameless person? She has repeatedly tried to steal my identity using her face."
Eliza's words were sharp and persuasive, painting Cecily as an ambitious imposter. The crowd erupted in discussions.
"So that's the story. I heard about the incident of the real and fake heiresses at the Bennett family before, but I didn't realize it was true. How shameless of her to be recognized and still dare to show up. Who gave her the courage to do this?"
"Yeah, she doesn't even know her place, trying to impersonate the Bennett family's heiress. Some people are just delusional, thinking they can turn from a nobody into somebody important."
"Why is her dress exactly the same as the Bennett family's heiress? It's obviously a fake."
"No need to think about it. She must have found out somehow what the Bennett family's heiress would wear and got herself an identical dress. But the one the Bennett family's heiress is wearing is genuine, and hers must be fake. Well, it makes sense. Only someone like her would wear a fake dress."
"Exactly, the Bennett family's heiress shouldn't even bother with her. She's not worth getting angry over. Just have someone kick her out. The Bennett family is not a place for her to cause trouble."
Eliza had curly hair, while Cecily had hers in an updo, making it easy for everyone to distinguish between the two.
The crowd, filled with righteous indignation, demanded Cecily to leave.
Eliza smirked at Cecily, her eyes filled with satisfaction. She wanted to see how Cecily would handle the situation now. "Impostor, did you hear that? Give up and get out."
Faced with these accusations, Cecily remained calm and smiled at Eliza. "You're getting worked up again. I'm just here because I received an invitation from the Bennett family to attend their banquet. Why should I leave?"
Cecily took the invitation card out of her handbag and gently waved it. "The Bennett family sent this invitation to me. So why are you trying to kick me out now? What's the meaning of this?"
An angry guest exclaimed, "Who would invite a fake like you? The invitation must be a forgery."
Cecily chuckled. "A forged invitation? Do you think the guards at the gate are all blind?"
"Who knows? Maybe you used your tricks to create a fake invitation and get in. After all, you managed to find out what dress the Bennett family's heiress would be wearing and even got yourself a fake one. Making a fake invitation doesn't seem that difficult for you," that guest said.
Eliza smirked and grew even more arrogant. She chimed in, "You say you're here to attend the banquet, but what's the purpose of wearing this dress? Isn't it just to ruin my event?"
"This dress?" Cecily nodded calmly. "It's quite a coincidence that we're dressed exactly the same."
"Coincidence? It's intentional. You deliberately wore a fake dress to disgust me."
"A fake dress?" Cecily frowned at Eliza and glanced at her. "What if I say that the dress I'm wearing is the real one?"
Eliza smiled. "You claim that your dress is real? Ridiculous. The Bennett family ordered this dress for me from Master Brady. The one I'm wearing is authentic. As for yours, I have no idea where you got it from. It is clearly a fake. Do you dare say yours is real?"
Eliza found something amusing and couldn't stop laughing. Someone in the crowd echoed, "Exactly, it's laughable. Only the true heiress of the Bennett family deserves to wear the real gown. Who do you think you are, wearing a knockoff dress and causing a scene here?"
"Haha, a fake heiress in a fake dress? How fitting."
