Chapter 430 Afraid, Yet Not Afraid
Cecily suddenly found Darian pretty impressive for guessing right off the bat.
"You nailed it."
"Freya risked her life to save Rowan, and Bryan must be heartbroken. If you badmouth Jennifer and Freya, he won't stand for it. You're strong-willed, so it's natural you'll feel wronged. It's not hard to figure out."
Cecily's face grew complicated, and she stayed silent.
Darian looked at her and asked, "You gonna tell him?"
"Tell him what, that I'm his real daughter?"
"Yeah."
Cecily took a deep breath and gave a bitter smile.
"I don't know what went down between my mom and him that made her so against telling him. She must have her reasons, and I don't know how to bring it up."
Suddenly telling Bryan she's his real daughter?
In a situation like this morning, Cecily just couldn't do it.
She used to look forward to it, but now she didn't expect much from this father.
Besides, she could see that Bryan genuinely loved Freya.
Since he already had a beloved daughter, why should she rush to acknowledge him?
Moreover, Bryan probably already despised her because of recent events. Telling him now would just be asking for trouble.
"Better not to say anything," Cecily sighed.
Darian's gaze stayed on Cecily's face, deep and contemplative, as if he was thinking about something.
"What are you thinking about?"
"I remembered some things from before when I woke up."
Cecily's eyes lit up. "You remembered things from before?"
"Some of it."
"What did you remember?"
Darian looked at Cecily, words lingering on his lips but unsure how to say them.
He had once suspected that the child Cecily carried wasn't his, believed Cecily had caused the death of Ophelia's child, and compelled her to take abortion pills.
Later, he wanted to make it up to Cecily in every way possible. Rowan and Griffin were also his biological children, proving that everything he had done before was wrong.
Suspecting Cecily of killing Ophelia's child was wrong, forcing her to take abortion pills was wrong, and thinking Rowan and Griffin weren't his was also wrong. These were terrible things, and he couldn't bring himself to ask about them now.
After a long while, Darian finally said, "I remembered some terrible things I did."
Hearing this, Cecily's face showed a knowing look. "Anything else? Didn't remember anything else?"
"Not for now."
Cecily's eyes dimmed, hiding a trace of disappointment. "It's okay, take your time, you'll remember."
Darian wanted to ask her, 'Do you hate me?' But in the end, he couldn't bring himself to ask.
"Some things you can remember slowly, but there's one thing you need to know."
Cecily hadn't mentioned to Darian that Patrick's death wasn't an accident, but now she had to.
Seeing the serious look in Cecily's eyes, Darian felt that what she was about to say wasn't simple.
"Go ahead, I'm listening."
Cecily thought for a moment and then spoke, "Do you remember your father's car accident back then?"
Mentioning Patrick suddenly, Darian frowned. "Definitely! The investigation concluded it was an accident. What's the problem?"
"It wasn't an accident. It was deliberate."
Darian's frown deepened, and his eyes showed surprise.
Cecily continued, "Moreover, your car accident back then probably wasn't an accident either. Also, this time, the killers were hired by Freya and Jennifer, but I had already convinced them to leave. Unexpectedly, someone hiding in the dark fired a shot, killing one of the killers, causing the others to misunderstand and get angry, leading to a fight. Otherwise, everyone would have been fine."
"Freya and Jennifer's target was me, and the shooter wanted me and the child to die in this assassination. I haven't made enemies with anyone else, so the only possible shooter is Josep."
Darian's aura instantly turned cold, and a strong sense of hostility emerged in his eyes.
He had suspected the car accident wasn't an accident before, but there were no clues.
"Do you suspect Josep is behind all of this?"
Cecily nodded. "He's definitely involved, but he's too cautious. The previous car accident is hard to investigate, and this time we only found Freya and Jennifer, not him."
Darian narrowed his eyes and shook his head. "He doesn't have that capability."
Hearing Darian say this, Cecily frowned. "You, like Owen, don't believe me? Think this is just my speculation without evidence, wrongfully accusing Josep?"
Cecily suddenly became agitated. She didn't understand why they didn't believe her.
The ward fell silent for a moment.
Seeing Cecily agitated, Darian explained, "It's not that I don't believe you. These things are related to him, but he might not be acting alone."
"Planning two flawless car accidents, he might have the guts but not necessarily the ability. Grandpa has always been wary of him and has controlled his power.
He doesn't believe you probably because of this."
"Then who else?"
"The Fitzgerald family has never lacked enemies."
Hearing this, Cecily understood. "So, there might have someone helping him."
"Yes." Darian held Cecily's hand tightly. "When did you tell Grandpa about this?"
"The day I returned to Silver Frost Capital, I went to him, but he told me not to investigate and to take care of myself."
Vivienne had also been like this, firmly refusing to let her investigate, but she had done so secretly.
"He's right. He wants to protect you and not get you involved."
Cecily raised her delicate eyebrows and asked, "So you want to persuade me the same way?"
Sighing, Cecily didn't give Darian a chance to speak, looking at him. "But unfortunately, I've already given you two sons. If they want to deal with you, the children and I are also in danger."
Darian naturally understood this.
So saying he didn't want to involve her was pointless now.
Darian looked deeply at Cecily. "Are you scared?"
"Not ,if I were, I wouldn't have come back. But I am scared, scared for the children's safety. I don't want to go through this again."
Thinking of last night's scene, Cecily still felt fearful. If she hadn't been with Gary, if Darian hadn't appeared in time, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Darian's eyes trembled, showing a hint of pain he didn't even realize.
"Never twice." Darian held Cecily's hand tightly. "I promise you."
Cecily felt melancholic, leaning closer to him, resting on his shoulder, and sighed softly. "I hope, I hope these things end soon."
