Chapter 278 Making Eliza Apologize.
Darian strode in, his tall and imposing figure exuding a natural nobility, but his cold expression revealed his displeasure.
He walked up to Cecily.
Eliza paused, then furrowed her brows.
She hadn't expected Darian to be here too.
Now things were even more complicated.
Darian naturally took Cecily's hand, his frosty gaze landing on Eliza, and his thin lips parted as he softly said, "To drive away guests as soon as they arrive, I wonder if this is your personal habit or the tradition of the Bennett family."
Eliza's lips twitched.
The three elders, arriving a bit late, were confused by the tension in the air.
Desmond quickly stepped forward, frowning as he looked at the two Cecilys and then at Darian. He asked, "What happened?"
Darian's cold gaze fell on Desmond, and he calmly asked, "Elder Desmond, is driving away guests the tradition of the Bennett family?"
Desmond glanced at Eliza beside him and, reading the situation, replied with gritted teeth, "Of course not."
"Is that so?" Darian sneered, his voice carrying a deadly danger. "Then why invite us here only to have someone drive us away at the doorstep? Are you playing games with us?"
Desmond furrowed his brow and looked at Eliza.
Eliza had regained her composure at this moment and stepped forward, saying, "Darian, I think you have misunderstood. I did not intend to drive you away; I was driving her away. She wanted to impersonate me, so it is only natural that she should be driven out. Besides, she was not invited by anyone, so it is reasonable for me to do so."
"Did you all hear that?" Darian looked at the several elders.
The elders' brows furrowed.
"What does this mean?" Eliza didn't understand why they had such expressions.
"I have already said that she is my wife. Driving away my wife is no different from driving me away. Impersonation? Are you so remarkable that she'd need to impersonate you?" Darian retorted.
"You!" Eliza's brows furrowed tightly, a touch of gloom flashing across her face.
The atmosphere instantly became tense.
"Sorry for being late." Evan and Caleb walked over from a distance, their faces still wearing friendly smiles.
Cecily looked at the two men and raised her delicate eyebrows slightly.
They'd enjoyed the show long enough to finally make an appearance.
Evan approached, looking as if he had no idea what was happening, his calculating gaze sweeping over everyone before he finally revealed a friendly smile and asked, "What's going on? Why does everyone look so upset?"
Eliza coldly glared at the two. "You guys appeared just in time."
Caleb chimed in, "We came out specially to welcome our distinguished guests, Darian and Mrs.Watson. Why haven't you invited them inside? What are you all doing standing outside?"
Caleb gestured and feigned chastising his subordinates.
One of the subordinates was clever and remained silent when Cecily was being difficult, allowing the situation to develop. Now, he spoke up, "Mr. Caleb, it's not that we don't want to bring Mrs.Watson inside. It's just that the young lady insisted on driving her away. There's nothing we can do."
Upon hearing this, Evan and Caleb's gazes fell directly on Eliza.
Caleb asked, "Is this true?"
Eliza realized something was wrong and immediately responded, "I didn't know she was invited by you guys. What were you inviting her for? Didn't she pretend to be me a few days ago?"
Evan smiled indifferently. "Past events are separate matters. It doesn't affect the two of us inviting her to the Bennett family as our guest."
Eliza gritted her teeth.
These two guys clearly want to use Cecily to oppose her.
Eliza was so angry that she could barely contain herself.
She took a deep breath and sneered, "Shouldn't you be avoiding this? Is it appropriate to bring someone who wants to replace me into the house?"
Caleb chuckled and raised his hand to stop her. "Whether it's a replacement or not, the authenticity of both of you remains to be verified. You don't need to emphasize these words; we won't easily believe them."
Eliza was so frustrated that she gritted her teeth. "Are you saying that you're going against me for her sake?"
Caleb glanced at her. "I didn't say that. I'm not taking anyone's side. I just want to find my sister's true biological daughter and the rightful heir of the Bennett family."
Eliza cursed inwardly, 'They talk better than they act. They are clearly trying to pit the two of us against each other! They are indeed cunning!'
Caleb fell silent, and Eliza also kept quiet.
Desmond looked at them deeply, understanding the situation very clearly, and it was clear he wasn't pleased.
Desmond sighed and could only address the current issue. He stepped forward and apologized to Darian, "Darian, I apologize for our misunderstanding this time."
"You don't have to apologize, Mr.Bradshaw. Whoever said the words and did the deeds should be the one to apologize," Darian said in a deep voice.
Desmond immediately understood what Darian meant.
Eliza furrowed. 'Is he asking me to apologize to Cecily?' she thought.
Desmond gave her a look.
Eliza ignored it.
Desmond's expression turned stern as he reprimanded, "Miss, this time you were indeed in the wrong. Darian and his wife, no matter what, were guests invited by the Bennett family. Your behavior was very impolite."
Eliza hated it so much that she gritted her teeth, her gaze piercing through Cecily.
Cecily remained composed with a trace of a smile, her beauty and delicate features giving nothing away.
Everyone was now looking at the two of them, waiting for Eliza's next move.
Swallowing her pride, Eliza walked forward, various emotions swirling in her eyes but suppressed.
The current situation was not in her favor, and she absolutely could not confront Cecily head-on.
"I'm sorry." Eliza took a deep breath and continued with difficulty, "Just now, I was reminded of the situation that day, and I spoke too harshly out of urgency. I apologize to you."
Cecily nodded gently, a faint smile in her eyes. "I understand that seeing me might have left you flustered."
Eliza's mouth twitched.
What Cecily had said suggested Eliza was feeling guilty.
"It's not really about being flustered. It's just that with the same face, I'm afraid you might try to use it to replace me," Eliza retorted.
