Chapter 702 Starting to Quibble
Giselle's mind went blank as she stared at the ring in a daze, thinking, 'What's going on? How did this ring end up in my bag?'
"What's the situation? Miss Fairfax's ring is in Miss Bennett's bag?"
"How could this happen? After all this time, the ring is in Miss Bennett's bag, so did Miss Bennett steal Miss Fairfax's ring?"
"Oh my God, this is shocking. So the real thief is Miss Bennett, and she was just here accusing others?"
"This is interesting. Miss Bennett is actually the thief."
The surrounding chatter almost overwhelmed Giselle.
Imogen snapped out of it, even more bewildered. She had placed the ring in Rowan's pocket, yet now it was in Giselle's bag.
Imogen's eyes widened, and she held her breath for a long time. "What's going on? How could this happen?"
Imogen's words seemed to question Giselle, asking how she could have stolen her ring.
Giselle stood frozen, her eyes wide with shock, unable to react.
The police placed the ring in front of Imogen. "Miss Fairfax, please confirm if this ring is indeed yours."
Imogen opened her mouth. "I…"
She couldn't make up her mind and didn't even have the courage to admit the ring was hers.
Imogen remained silent, and the police asked again, "Miss Fairfax, can you confirm if this ring is yours?"
"It might be mine," Imogen stammered, her words filled with doubt.
Hearing her uncertainty, the onlookers couldn't help but remind her, "Miss Fairfax, can't you tell if it's your own ring? You just said it was yours, and now you're unsure. Are you joking?"
"It's indeed quite funny. Because of a ring, the party has turned into this mess, and Ms. Bennett and her children were wronged. They were kindly helping you find the ring, and now you're unsure."
"Exactly, we can all help you confirm that this ring is yours. Your ring looks very similar to Ms. Bennett's. That's why you mistook it earlier. So this ring is yours. What's so hard to recognize?"
The police looked at Imogen. "Miss Fairfax, we need you to confirm if this ring is yours."
Facing the police's inquiry, the pressure from the crowd, and Giselle's expression, Imogen was on the verge of breaking down. "It's mine."
With Imogen's confirmation, everyone turned to Giselle. Their gazes at Giselle shifted from shock and confusion to disdain.
"Who would have thought Miss Bennett would do something like stealing?"
"This is simply shocking. After all the searching, the real thief is Miss Bennett."
"And she was just here accusing others. This is ridiculous."
"Is Miss Bennett so desperate for a ring that she would steal her friend's? And she caused us to wrong Ms. Bennett and her children. She spoke so harshly earlier, and it turns out she's the real thief. This is probably the biggest joke in Detroit this year."
"Really embarrassing."
"Shut up!" Giselle, who had been silent, shouted in anger. Her eyes were filled with rage, and the anger she had suppressed all night finally erupted.
"Are you crazy? With my status, would I need to steal a ring? Do you think that's possible?"
"How is it not possible? The ring was found in your bag," someone said.
"Exactly, we all saw the ring being taken out of your bag. How is it not possible?"
Giselle was too angry to think clearly. "I didn't steal!"
"But the ring is in your bag, found by the police. How do you explain that?" someone asked, enjoying the drama.
"I don't know why the ring is in my bag," Giselle kept shaking her head.
Seeing this, Cecilia quickly spoke up for Giselle. "Everyone, stop guessing. The ring was actually placed in Giselle's bag by Imogen. Imogen just forgot, right, Imogen?"
Imogen instinctively nodded. "Yes, I put it in Giselle's bag, but I accidentally forgot."
The two, clearly afraid of offending Giselle, kept trying to explain for her, but their efforts only made them seem more ridiculous to the crowd.
"Miss Thorne, you just said the ring was always on your hand and suddenly disappeared. How did it become Miss Fairfax putting it in Miss Bennett's bag and forgetting?"
"Yeah, we all heard you say it suddenly disappeared."
"This story is getting more suspicious. First, you accused Ms. Bennett's children of stealing the ring. Now the ring is found in Miss Bennett's bag, and you say you put it there and forgot. Which part of your story is true?"
"Could it be that you planned this whole thing from the start?"
"Stop talking nonsense," Cecilia hurriedly refuted, but her panicked eyes betrayed her inner emotions.
Cecily didn't need to say anything because Imogen and Cecilia's words were full of holes. Others could easily judge the truth.
"Cecily!" Giselle shouted, unable to stay calm.
Cecily chuckled.
Giselle took a step towards Cecily and grabbed her arm. "It was you. You put the ring in my bag, didn't you?"
