Chapter 498 He Remembered Everything

Bryan just stood there. He had just arrived and gotten out of the car when he witnessed Cecily's body collapse right in front of him.

When he saw Cecily lying in a pool of blood, his heart wrenched violently. He stood there motionless.

Time seemed to stretch endlessly until Darian finally managed to get Cecily into the car and the vehicle sped away.

He turned mechanically and opened the car door. It seemed like he wanted to chase after that car, but once he sat down, he didn't know what to do.

Freya called out to him from the back seat.

Knowing the men who worked for Darian wouldn't take Freya with them, he had been reluctant to leave her behind in such a desolate place. Even in his anger, he had returned to pick her up.

But at this moment, he couldn't hear anything. He had never felt so panicked and terrified.

He reached out and clutched the fabric over his chest, but the pain didn't lessen at all.

His mouth opened, but no sound came out. Regret flooded him—he shouldn't have traded Cecily for Freya. If he hadn't, Cecily wouldn't be in danger now.

Vivienne said Cecily was pregnant.

She was pregnant, a pregnant woman, two lives.

His temples throbbed violently.

He thought, 'What should I do?'

He didn't know. His mind was blank, unable to control his hands to take the next step.

In the back seat, Freya was overjoyed.

'Cecily looked like she was going to die. Great, she should have died long ago.' she thought.

Freya had never felt so elated.

Before she could even rejoice for long, the car door was suddenly opened, and she was yanked out by Larkin.

She screamed in terror.

"What are you doing? What do you want? Let go of me! Why are you grabbing me? Let go of me! Dad, save me!"

Larkin pulled Freya out and handed her to the other bodyguards. "Take her to the hospital and keep an eye on her."

Freya didn't know what they were going to do to her, but she knew she had just caused Cecily to fall into the hands of the kidnappers. Darian hadn't lost his memory; he wouldn't let her off.

She was scared, panicked, and kept calling out to Bryan in the car for help.

"Dad, they're going to hurt me. Save me, hurry, save me! Let go of me! Dad, save me. Dad!"

Freya kept calling Bryan, but he seemed completely lost in his own world, ignoring her.

She was shoved into the car amidst her frantic screams.

In the car, her minor injuries were aggravated by the bodyguards who stabbed her twice with a knife.

They weren't fatal wounds, but they looked much more serious than her original injuries.

Freya was quickly carried into the hospital's operating room in pain.

The hospital was the same one where Cecily was.

Darian stood outside the operating room, staring at the red light glowing ominously above the door. A wave of intense panic threatened to engulf him entirely.

His hands trembled uncontrollably. He looked down to see them covered in Cecily's blood, the thick, iron scent making anyone who passed by cast uneasy glances at him.

There he stood, motionless, fixated on the closed door. No one knew who was on the other side of it, but Darian knew. Inside was Cecily—his wife, his greatest love.

A stabbing pain struck his head, memories flooding back like a relentless tide.

He raised a hand to his temple, trying to stem the onslaught of images that seized his mind. Each memory played out vividly, consuming his thoughts.

He saw all the years of anger towards Cecily, the times he had yelled at her, doubted that the child she carried was his, and humiliated her for another woman.

But he also remembered Cecily's sacrifice, how she had donated a kidney to him, how she had suffered blindness, and the letters she wrote, asking him to wait for her return.

One thing after another came crashing down on him.

He painfully supported himself against the wall, kneeling on one knee.

He remembered everything, everything about him and Cecily, the woman he had wronged the most, the woman he owed the most, who was now once again in danger by his side.

Darian's heart ached so much he couldn't breathe.

His mind was filled with only Cecily.

"Sir, are you okay? Sir?" A passing nurse saw Darian kneeling on the ground in pain and came over to ask with concern.

Darian seemed to hear nothing, his eyes fixed on the closed door, his cold face streaked with hot tears.

At that moment, the operating room door opened, and a nurse hurried out.

Darian immediately stepped forward. "How is she?"

The nurse quickly said, "Are you the patient's family? She's seriously injured, and the fetus in her womb can't be saved. Here's a consent form for the surgery that needs your signature."

Darian listened to every word the nurse said. He understood each word individually, but when they came together, they left him in a daze, unable to move.

He thought, 'Cecily is pregnant?

'Pregnant with my child?

'Now, the baby is gone.'

A roaring noise filled his ears, distorting reality as if everything was shifting between distant and close. He staggered, his knee colliding with a nearby chair, yet he felt no pain.

"Sir, please sign here." The nurse urged again.

He thought, 'Sign, yes, sign. Cecily needs surgery.' Darian stared at the consent form in front of him, each word he signed causing his heart to ache more.

Cecily's life was in danger.

Their child was gone.

He had just learned that Cecily was pregnant, and at the same time, he learned she had miscarried.

Darian had never found signing a name so difficult.

He told himself, 'Saving Cecily is the priority.' After signing, he grabbed the nurse. "Save her, save her life."

The nurse looked at Darian, whose eyes were bloodshot and who was in a disheveled state. She thought the person inside must be the woman he loved the most.

But at this moment, the woman he loved the most was in critical condition, and their child was gone. It must be the biggest blow to him. The nurse feared that after saying this, Darian might collapse.

She quickly nodded, "The doctors will do their best to save her."

With that, the nurse immediately took the consent form and went back into the operating room.

Darian took a deep breath, but it did no good; he couldn't breathe properly, as if something were clenched tightly in his chest.

Bryan was unaware of how he had made his way to the hospital. As he watched Darian standing outside the operating room, filled with pain, he was rooted to the spot, unable to move.

He thought, 'What would become of Cecily and the child?

'What would happen to me and Vivienne in the future?'

Then, in the midst of the blankness in his mind, a voice suddenly and startlingly spoke up, "Cecily is your biological daughter!"
