Chapter376 What Is the Meaning?
Bella smiled kindly. "Alright, thank you." She reached out to Cecily. "Cecily, is there something wrong with my place? You haven't visited me in a long time."
Previously, Evander had pursued Cecily with great fervor, and Bella had taken a liking to Cecily the first time she met her.
When Cecily got married, Bella was quite upset and disappointed for a while.
Cecily reached out and held Bella's hand. "No, your place is wonderful. It's my fault. I promise to visit you more often. I hope you won't find me annoying."
Though these were just polite words, Bella was still very pleased to hear them. "Of course not, absolutely not. I would love for you to stay at my house every day."
Cecily smiled cooperatively, took Rowan and Griffin's hands, and said to Bella, "These are my two children, Rowan and Griffin."
"Hello, Mrs. Bella," they greeted obediently.
Bella looked at them with increasing affection. "Cecily, take a look at Evander."
Cecily glanced at Evander in confusion. "What's wrong with him?"
Bella smiled meaningfully. "Do you fancy him? That way, I would have two great-grandchildren right away."
"What?" Bella's words were so unexpected that they startled Cecily.
"Grandma, you're at it again," Evander said helplessly. Bella was indeed in a hurry, fearing that Cecily might slip away.
"How can I not be in a hurry? Your brother has already married a woman I don't like. You need to marry Cecily to make me happy." Bella didn't shy away from saying these things in front of Ophelia, which showed how much she disliked her.
Ophelia, listening from behind, gritted her teeth but dared not speak.
Watching the scene unfold, Hayden and Declan sighed in unison.
Hayden shook his head. "If Darian keeps this up, Evander’s gonna snatch away his wife and son."
Declan sighed, "Well, Owen is just that stubborn."
While Bella was busy promoting Evander to Cecily, Aurelie, standing behind, couldn't help but smile. Just then, a message popped up on her phone. She glanced at it, and her expression instantly turned grim.
She said to Davis, "Mr. Davis, please tell Cecily that I had to leave for something urgent."
Hayden raised an eyebrow. "Why are you in such a hurry?"
Aurelie clenched her phone, gritting her teeth. "To catch a cheater."
Hayden listened quietly, a knowing look flashing in his eyes. He shook his head and sighed softly, "Love can indeed be painful."
Following the hotel address and room number sent by that person, Aurelie arrived at the door. ‘6606! It’s here!’
Standing at the door, Aurelie took several deep breaths. Her anger had been building up all the way here, but now that she was at the door, her hand hesitated.
Just then, a waiter came by with a room service cart. Aurelie glanced at the room number on the cart; it was indeed for room 6606.
Clutching her purse tightly, Aurelie waited for the waiter to knock on the door.
Soon, the door opened.
She heard a familiar cold voice say, "Just leave it there."
Aurelie's expression grew even darker. Clenching her fists, she walked in. Nathaniel was sitting on the sofa, calmly smoking a cigarette, while a woman on the bed behind him was hurriedly putting on her bra.
Aurelie's mind went blank.
Lillian, seeing her, slowed her previously quick movements. She didn't mind being watched, dressing leisurely like a victor, and then stood up.
Nathaniel, seeing Aurelie, showed rare surprise in his deep eyes. "Weren't you visiting the Lockwood family? Why are you here all of a sudden?"
Aurelie didn't answer him.
"Mrs. Miller is here," Lillian said, flipping her hair and smiling seductively.
Aurelie knew Lillian; they had attended the same school.
After Nathaniel's incident and imprisonment, Aurelie hadn't seen her again.
Lillian glanced at Aurelie and walked over to Nathaniel. "Nathaniel, since Mrs. Miller is here, I'll take my leave."
Nathaniel responded indifferently.
Aurelie stood there for a long time before finally making a move. She threw her phone and purse onto the table in one swift motion. "Don't go, let's have a chat together."
"No, I have other things to do. If Mrs. Miller wants to chat, we can find a time and place to sit down and talk properly," Lillian said, walking away in her high heels.
The room door closed, leaving only Aurelie and Nathaniel. The room was eerily quiet.
Nathaniel seemed completely indifferent to the situation, not even bothering to explain. He straightened up, picked up the knife and fork from the table, and slowly cut a small piece of steak, asking calmly, "Have you eaten?"
His voice was so calm, devoid of any embarrassment from being caught in bed with another woman by his girlfriend, and without a hint of panic.
Ridiculous, wasn't it? He wasn't even flustered by her seeing this scene!
And he still asked if she had eaten?
Aurelie sat there numbly, beginning to wonder if nothing had happened between them.
Or perhaps he simply didn't care about her, so he couldn't be bothered to explain.
She had seen how much Darian cared for Cecily, standing outside on the cold November night just to explain that he hadn't been involved with another woman.
And Nathaniel? He actually had the nerve to sit there and eat.
Aurelie silently told herself that if he just said they hadn't done anything, she would pretend this never happened.
But unfortunately, he didn't. He offered no explanation.
He simply didn't care about her.
Aurelie lowered her eyes, giving a bitter smile. Though she didn't want to ask, she finally did, "What did Lillian want with you?"
"To chat."
"Naked?"
Nathaniel chuckled as if finding the situation amusing.
Seeing his face, Aurelie's anger surged. She wanted to throw that piece of steak at his indifferent face.
And in fact, she did just that.
Nathaniel paused for a moment, steak splattered on his face, as the furious Aurelie grabbed her things and stormed out.
As she slammed the door, he almost wanted to call her back to explain.
But in the end, he didn't.
Nathaniel looked at the steak on the floor, wiped his face with a napkin, and muttered, "What a waste."
He felt somewhat wronged. He had walked in to find Lillian lying there, trying to throw herself at him. He had just sat down when Aurelie barged in, catching him off guard.
But he couldn't be bothered to explain.
To him, an insignificant misunderstanding was less important than the steak that had just fallen to the floor.
Aurelie walked out with her back straight. The further she went, the faster she walked. By the time she reached the elevator, she was frantically pressing the button, tears streaming down her face.
She got into a cab after leaving the elevator, her mind completely absent throughout the ride.
At some point, it had started to drizzle outside, wetting her sleeves. She looked out the window, her thoughts drifting.
In such a situation, she thought she should be like other women, arguing and demanding answers.
But in the end, her rationality prevailed. It was he who had committed manslaughter to save her and spent ten years in prison. It was she who wanted to repay him by insisting on marrying him.
Ultimately, she felt guilty towards him. She had no right to question him, let alone argue with him.
Aurelie lowered her head deeply, but her heart ached terribly.
After being held by Bella for a long time, Cecily finally found an opportunity to take Rowan and Griffin home.
"Mommy, Daddy seems to be back," Griffin said.
Cecily glanced at the shoes on the shoe rack. Next to a pair of men's dress shoes was a pair of women's high heels, which weren't hers but looked like the ones Freya had worn tonight.
Cecily's eyes darkened. To prevent the children from noticing anything, she led them inside. "Kids, it's late. Go wash up and go to bed, okay?"
The children were smart and immediately noticed Cecily's unhappiness.
"Okay." But they were well-behaved, knowing Cecily didn't want them to see her emotions, so they pretended not to notice.
Rowan took Griffin's hand. "Mommy, we're going to bed now."
"Goodnight, Mommy."
"Goodnight."
Hand in hand, they went to their room.
Cecily took a deep breath, her expression turning cold. "Do we have guests?"
Yesterday, to dispel the servants' doubts, Cecily had shown them the property deed from the drawer, proving she was indeed the owner of the villa.
"Yes, Mr.Fitzgerald is back, and Mrs. Cruz is with him, upstairs," the servant replied truthfully.
Cecily nodded, exhaled, rolled up her sleeves, and strode upstairs.
