Chapter 667 Unable to Cope
Hunter and Keaen kept their cool and stayed quiet for a bit. Finally, Hunter looked up and said, "Maybe the message didn't get passed along right by the folks below."
Cecily's eyes narrowed as she jumped on that, asking, "Who was supposed to pass the message? How did it get passed? It's quite the tale that not a single exec got the memo. Mr. Hunter Bennett, bring out the person who was supposed to pass the message. I'd like to ask them what they were thinking. It's impressive that not a single exec got the message."
Cecily kept pushing, staring hard at Hunter and Keaen.
Under everyone's watchful eyes, their faces turned pale.
"Are you two trying to make things hard for me on purpose, to embarrass me?" Cecily's voice had a cold edge to it.
Her stare was so intense that it made the two of them nervous.
Thanks to his experience, Hunter wasn't completely without a plan.
"Saying it's on purpose is too harsh. We're family; why would we make things hard for you on purpose? This is just a mix-up from the folks below. I'll make sure to deal with the person responsible for the miscommunication when I get back," Hunter said, forcing a smile at Cecily.
Cecily stared right into Hunter's eyes without blinking, her eyebrows slightly raised as she forced a small, cold smile.
"If the message wasn't passed along right by someone below, then bring that person in. I need to ask them why this mistake happened," Cecily said.
Seeing that Cecily wasn't letting it go, Hunter knew he had to give a reasonable explanation with so many eyes on him. He sent someone to get his assistant.
When the assistant came in, Hunter walked up with a stern face and angrily scolded him, "What's wrong with you? I told you to notify everyone about the meeting, and you couldn't even handle that?"
The assistant got the hint from Hunter's words. Hunter was asking him to take the fall.
The assistant didn't dare go against Hunter and could only curse his bad luck.
He lowered his head and immediately apologized, "Sorry, Mr. Hunter Bennett. It's my fault. You did tell me to notify all the execs about the meeting, but I misheard and thought it was tomorrow. It's my mistake, and I'll take any punishment."
Hunter's tightly furrowed brows relaxed a bit. "Do you know how much trouble your mistake has caused? You should apologize to everyone."
The assistant, still with his head down, turned to Cecily and was about to speak when Cecily stopped him. "Wait, you said you misheard the time?"
"Yes," the assistant admitted right away.
Cecily smiled silently. "Are you kidding me? You were just outside the door with Mr. Hunter Bennett, which means you knew the meeting time. Now you're telling me you misheard the time? This explanation is completely unreasonable."
The assistant wanted to explain but found himself at a loss for words and could only shut his mouth in frustration.
Cecily didn't want to make things hard for the assistant and turned directly to Hunter. "I said this explanation is unreasonable. You don't have any objections, do you?"
Hunter's mouth twitched.
At this point, Keaen's face was already showing uncontrollable anger. He angrily said to Cecily, "Cecily, don't push it!"
"Am I pushing it? Everyone is waiting. Don't you two need to give us an explanation?" Cecily's tone stayed calm as she asked slowly.
They tried to mess with her first, so they couldn't blame her for not letting it slide.
Keaen snapped back, "Shouldn't you be the one explaining, Cecily? Just because of this little thing, you said you wanted to fire the company's executives. You're the one who should be explaining to everyone."
Cecily shot back, "So, Mr. Keaen Bennett thinks it's no big deal that all the company's executives didn't show up for the meeting."
Her expression grew more serious. "If that's how you two see it, then it's no wonder you would do something like deliberately not notifying everyone about the meeting to embarrass me."
By now, everyone had figured out what was going on.
There was definitely a meeting today, but Hunter and Keaen had purposely not told anyone, making everyone miss the meeting related to Cecily, just to embarrass her.
Cecily continued, "I know you don't like me, but this is too much. The company's executives all missing a meeting is not a small matter. If word gets out, people will start wondering what's going on at Bennett Group that made all the execs miss the meeting."
Cecily added, "If other employees find out, they'll think that if the execs can skip meetings without any consequences, they can do the same and ignore company rules. Have you thought about the fallout?"
Cecily wasn't exaggerating. It was normal for one or two people to miss a meeting, but for everyone to miss it was a big deal.
Hunter and Keaen knew this, but they didn't expect Cecily to call them out so directly.
They just wanted to intimidate Cecily, to let her know that no one wanted her in the company and that she should keep a low profile from now on.
But she was turning the tables on them instead.
They had no way to deal with her at the moment.
Cecily said, "You just said that the company has its rules, and as a board member, you must follow them and not act arbitrarily. So, I want to ask you, isn't this a mistake? Aren't you doing whatever you want?"
Being called out and unable to refute a single word, Hunter was gritting his teeth, his face looking terrible.
Everyone's eyes were on them, and the executives, having calmed down, wisely stayed out of it. They stood quietly on the sidelines, just watching.
The atmosphere in the conference room was awkward for a moment.
Hunter and Keaen were clearly feeling the heat, standing there with grim faces, not saying a word.
Giselle, seeing Hunter getting chewed out by Cecily, immediately turned cold.
They had underestimated Cecily's abilities.
Giselle clenched her fists. With everyone watching, it was clear the situation was bad for them, and they couldn't let it get worse.
Giselle quickly stepped forward and said to Cecily, "Cecily, this is really just a misunderstanding. Why don't we discuss this privately? Everyone is watching."
"Alright, but given how things have escalated, you two should apologize to everyone," Cecily said.
Giselle forced a smile, thought for a moment, and then walked to the front to address everyone. "Everyone, I'm sorry. This was just a misunderstanding that dragged everyone into it. I apologize on behalf of Cecily."
"On behalf of whom?" Cecily's voice turned cold.
She wasn't stupid. Whoever was at fault should apologize. Giselle's statement that she was apologizing on behalf of Cecily implied that everything was Cecily's fault.
Even now, they wanted to pin the blame on her.
