Chapter 689 Invitation to the Banquet

Cecily smiled softly. "You really are my good friend."

"What did you just say about Vivienne? Why isn't she answering your calls?" Aurelie asked, looking at Cecily.

A bitter look appeared in Cecily's eyes. "I wish I knew what was going on with her."

The problem was she didn't know. Vivienne was hiding something from her, and she was very worried. She even went to Desmond's room to steal his SIM card to find out.

Aurelie patted Cecily's shoulder. "Don't worry too much. What could be wrong with Vivienne? Maybe she's just busy and missed your calls."

Cecily's lips curved slightly, and she shook her head. "No, I have a feeling she's hiding something very important from me."

Being too busy to answer calls was no longer a valid reason.

How busy could one be to not answer a call for several days in a row?

Cecily furrowed her brows and gripped the phone card in her hand even tighter.

Back in her room, Cecily quickly found a spare phone and inserted the SIM card. Her movements were hurried, as if she couldn't wait another moment.

Darian walked in from outside and saw Cecily busy with something. He walked over and asked, "What are you doing?"

Maybe because she was too nervous, Cecily was startled by Darian's sudden voice.

Darian looked at the phone in Cecily's hand without showing any emotion and noticed it wasn't her usual phone.

"I'm calling my mom." Cecily looked away and continued to focus on the phone.

"Didn't you say no one was answering?" Darian asked as he sat down next to Cecily.

Cecily inserted the SIM card and turned on the phone to dial, answering Darian's question, "This is the number Desmond usually uses to contact Vivienne. Vivienne won't answer my calls, but she will answer Desmond's."

Darian felt a surge of tension, though his expression remained unchanged. He unconsciously clenched his fist as he watched Cecily dial the number.

The call went through, but no one answered.

Cecily's eyes darkened, and she impatiently dialed again.

Still, no one answered.

Cecily frowned, not understanding why. She had seen Desmond's calls go through smoothly yesterday, but she couldn't get through at all.

What went wrong?

Cecily continued to dial a third and fourth time, but the result was the same.

Darian's eyes deepened as he watched Cecily's anxious expression. He reached out and took the phone from her hand. "That's enough. Maybe Vivienne is sleeping."

"It's only eight o'clock!" Cecily retorted.

She couldn't accept these excuses anymore.

Darian fell silent.

In a private island villa, Vivienne sat in front of a surveillance screen, watching Cecily and Aurelie's every move in the living room. She guessed what Cecily was trying to do.

Vivienne looked at the ringing phone and smiled helplessly. She now wished Cecily had never found her and Bryan, so Cecily wouldn't be in such pain now.

Vivienne covered her mouth and coughed softly, her pale face spitting out bright red blood.

Vivienne seemed used to it. She picked up a tissue to wipe the blood from her hand and closed her eyes gently.

After a while, Vivienne walked to the desk, picked up a notebook, and flipped through the pages until she found a blank one. With a weak hand, she picked up a pen and started writing, tears welling up in her eyes.

The next day, Cecily tried many more times, but Vivienne's phone was turned off. Instead, Cecily received a text message from Vivienne.

Cecily's breath hitched, and her hands trembled. The message was short: [Take good care of yourself. I'm fine. Don't worry about me.]

Cecily quickly typed a reply, afraid that if she was even a second late, the person on the other end wouldn't see it.

But no matter how fast she was, there was no further reply.

A bitter smile appeared on Cecily's lips, thinking, 'How can I not worry?'

She sighed softly and looked out the window. The weather was terrible today, with no sunlight and dark clouds gathering, as if a heavy rain was coming.

Several days passed, and Cecily spent most of her days at the company. Darian had to return to Silver Frost Capital for work, but he would come back to accompany Cecily in the evenings. Everything seemed calm and pleasant.

But not being able to find Vivienne was still a regret in Cecily's heart, and it hurt every time she thought about it.

She had been doing what she was supposed to, going to the company diligently.

She had been so good, so why hadn't Vivienne come back?

Today, Cecily had just returned from the company when Giselle arrived. Because of the events of the past few days, Hunter, Keaen, and Giselle had been behaving themselves and not causing trouble for Cecily at the company.

Cecily didn't have time to deal with them anyway.

Seeing Giselle, Desmond walked up. "Miss Bennett, what brings you here?"

Giselle glanced around the living room and didn't see Cecily, so she said to Desmond, "I'm here to see Cecily. Is she in?"

"Mrs. Fitzgerald is resting upstairs. Do you need something, Miss Bennett?"

Giselle handed an invitation to Desmond. "I heard Cecily returned to the Bennett Mansion. A friend of mine really wants to meet her and is hosting a party just for that. I'm here to deliver the invitation. Please pass it on to Cecily for me."

"Mrs. Fitzgerald doesn't really like attending such parties, but thank you for your kindness." Desmond was refusing on Cecily's behalf.

Giselle raised an eyebrow. "Desmond, since Cecily has returned to the Bennett Mansion, she can't avoid these kinds of parties. Besides, she's been back for a while now and hasn't officially attended any events, so no one knows her. Do you think that's appropriate? She should go out and attend more parties to get familiar with everyone."

Desmond couldn't deny that Giselle had a point, but he still felt that Giselle had ulterior motives.

"Desmond, you should persuade Cecily. She can't just stay at home and not meet people," Giselle said unhappily.

Desmond's stern face showed a hint of contemplation. "Whether Mrs. Fitzgerald goes or not is up to her. I can't make that decision for her."

Giselle waved her hand. "Whatever. I was just trying to give you some friendly advice."

Desmond said nothing more. Who knew if she was really being friendly?

After Giselle left, Desmond went upstairs and knocked on Cecily's door. Inside, Aurelie was asking Cecily about her upcoming birthday.

Cecily's birthday was in a few days, but she wasn't in the mood to celebrate.

Hearing the knock, Cecily said, "Come in."

Desmond walked in and placed the invitation in front of Cecily.

Cecily glanced at it and asked, "What's this?"

"Miss Bennett just brought this invitation, inviting you to a party," Desmond replied.
