Chapter 606: Asking Aurelie to Be a Bridesmaid

As soon as Lillian finished yapping, the nanny who'd just come back from outside handed Aurelie a fancy-looking invite. "Miss Miller, someone gave me this for you while I was out."

Aurelie gave the invite a quick glance, not saying a word. On the other end of the line, Lillian was practically cackling, "Looks like you got the invite, Aurelie. You gotta see me tie the knot with Nathaniel in person."

"Are you really that stoked about beating me?" Aurelie picked up the invite, her face a blank slate.

Lillian's joy was just plain weird to her.

Lillian let out a few smug laughs, "I'm the winner, right? Of course, I'm happy."

"Well, I hope you two are super happy." Aurelie said, cool as a cucumber.

Then she hung up and chucked the invite straight into the trash.

No way was she going.

Lillian just wanted her there to rub it in her face, but she wasn't about to give her the satisfaction.

Seeing Aurelie toss the invite, the nanny asked, "Miss Miller, why'd you throw away the invite?"

Aurelie gave a light smile, "Why keep it if I'm not going?"

Lillian, on the other end, had a dark look in her eyes. She figured Aurelie wouldn't come, but it wasn't up to her. If she wanted her there, she'd make it happen.

The next day.

Aurelie woke up super early. They were saying pregnant women sleeped a lot, but every time she closed her eyes, the nightmares came.

In her dreams, Joshua was jumping off a tall building.

The Kensington family and Lillian took her kid away, and she couldn't do a thing about it.

Debt collectors from the casino surrounded her, holding a knife to her neck, demanding she pay Joshua's debts.

Nathaniel was punching those guys one by one. She screamed, trying to stop him, but in the end, Nathaniel accidentally killed someone because of her and got hauled off by the cops.

She kept waking up from these nightmares and was too scared to sleep again.

Coming out of the bedroom, the nanny walked over with a complicated look on her face, "Miss Miller, there are two people downstairs saying they're here to invite you to the wedding."

Aurelie frowned and looked down at the living room from the upstairs railing. Sure enough, two bodyguards were sitting downstairs.

Whose goons were they?

They had to be Lillian's!

"How'd they get in?" Aurelie asked.

"Well..." The nanny hesitated, "I heard someone knocking, so I opened the door to check, and they just barged in."

The bodyguards downstairs heard their convo and stood up, saying to Aurelie, "Miss Miller, Ms. Lewis invites you to the wedding."

"I don't wanna go. You gonna force me?" Aurelie looked at the two bodyguards downstairs. Their tone was more demand than request.

The two bodyguards exchanged a smirk, "Miss Miller, you know Ms. Lewis. I suggest you cooperate and come with us. It's just a wedding. What are you scared of?"

Aurelie shot back, cool as ever, "It's just a wedding. I'm not the bride. Can't it go on without me?"

"Looks like Miss Miller doesn't wanna play nice," one of the bodyguards said, cracking his knuckles. "Guess Miss Miller's gonna have to learn the hard way."

Aurelie knew she couldn't take on two grown dudes.

She bit her lip, wondering why she was such a big deal that everyone had to keep tabs on her.

The bodyguards were already closing in.

Seemed like she had no choice but to go along.

"I'll walk myself," Aurelie said, dodging their hands.

"This way please, Miss Miller," they said, raising their hands like they were doing her a favor. No surprise they were Lillian's goons, just as cocky as she was.

Aurelie followed them out and saw Nathaniel's guys still hanging around, but they didn't stop the bodyguards from coming in.

Because these bodyguards were Lillian's, and Lillian was marrying Nathaniel. After that, they'd be a couple, so Nathaniel's guys naturally wouldn't mess with Lillian's.

Aurelie didn't care.

She got to the wedding venue pretty early.

The Kensington and Lewis families were big shots in Silver Frost Capital. Nathaniel and Lillian's wedding was a huge deal, with the fanciest hotel and the swankiest banquet hall. Everything looked top-notch.

But it was still early, and no one else was there yet.

Aurelie was taken straight to a room in the hotel, which looked like the bride's dressing room. A bunch of people were getting stuff ready for Lillian's makeup.

There was also a white wedding dress hanging nearby, probably Lillian's.

The dress was super fancy and looked crazy expensive.

The bodyguards left her there, saying Lillian would be over later, then they bailed.

But Aurelie knew they hadn't really left; she could still hear them outside the door.

Aurelie had no clue what Lillian had planned by sticking her here.

She hadn't brought anything with her when they dragged her from home, not even her phone. Aurelie glanced at the clock on the wall once in a while, feeling like she'd been waiting forever when she finally heard Lillian's voice outside the door.

The door swung open, and Lillian, in a stunning dress, walked in with half a dozen bridesmaids. Seeing Aurelie, Lillian's face, all dolled up, lit up with a smile that was more wicked than sweet. "Miss Miller, you're here."

Her smile looked friendly but was dripping with malice.

"You had your goons drag me here. What do you want?" Aurelie asked.

Aurelie didn't want to waste time with her. She knew Lillian but just wanted to know what she had in store for her.

Lillian lifted her skirt and sauntered over, smiling sweetly in front of Aurelie. "Why so tense, Miss Miller? You're making me out to be the bad guy. I actually wanted you to be my bridesmaid today."

"Bridesmaid?" Aurelie frowned.

"Yep." Lillian picked up a dress from the side and handed it to Aurelie. "I'm short a bridesmaid, and I think you'd be perfect for the job."
