Chapter 456 The Evidence Was There from the Beginning
"I..." Olivia froze, a chill running down her spine.
Cecily's question left her speechless. She looked to Josep for help, panicking.
Josep's expression stayed the same, but a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
Cecily followed Olivia's gaze to Josep.
Unlike Olivia, Josep stayed calm. When Cecily stared at him, he said, "We checked the surveillance footage. The person with Jennifer didn't have a ring on."
"Really?" Cecily replied.
Darian waved, and Larkin brought a tablet forward.
Cecily glanced at the tablet and raised an eyebrow at Josep. "This is the footage you mentioned."
The video showed someone avoiding the camera, only their back visible. No hands, no fingers.
Cecily looked at Josep and Olivia, eyebrow raised. "When did you get X-ray vision? Teach me how you did that."
Josep's face turned cold at Cecily's sarcasm.
"Aurelia and Freya are friends. Freya's mom died, and we helped with the investigation. We saw the full video of Jennifer on the rooftop. Don't you think that's possible?"
Josep hadn't expected this to happen and made up a flimsy excuse.
Cecily didn't rush to expose him.
She nodded, reluctantly accepting the explanation.
"Yes, we helped with the investigation and saw Jennifer's video. What's wrong with that?" Olivia quickly added, looking at Owen. "Dad, you have to believe us."
Owen sat at the head of the table, stern and silent, waiting to see how far they'd go.
"Cecily, you're slandering my mom in front of Grandpa. You have no evidence and are making things up!" Aurelia shouted, clearly feeling cornered.
Cecily stayed calm. "I didn't have evidence before, but now I do."
Aurelia raised her chin. "What evidence do you have? Show me."
She didn't believe Cecily had anything.
Cecily took out her phone and played the full video Griffin found.
After watching the video, Josep closed his eyes, and Olivia turned pale.
Aurelia didn't understand the video's significance and angrily questioned, "Cecily, what's the point of this video? We can't see anything clearly. Is this your evidence? It's ridiculous to blame my mom based on this."
Cecily smiled. "Yes, we can't see anything clearly. So, Aunt Olivia, how did you confidently say the person who pushed Jennifer wasn't wearing a ring?"
The footage and video showed that the person was well-hidden. No ring and no hand was visible.
Yet Olivia had confidently claimed the person who pushed Jennifer wasn't wearing a ring, which was very telling.
Cecily's evidence came from Olivia's earlier statement: "The person in the video didn't have a ring."
Cecily looked at Owen. "Isn't it clear now?"
Owen took a deep breath and nodded.
It was clear Olivia had pushed Jennifer.
Even without more evidence, Owen could tell from their panicked faces.
"What? What do you mean?" Aurelia still didn't get it and looked at Owen, confused. "Grandpa, you can't believe Cecily. This isn't evidence."
Owen ignored Aurelia, sat up straight, and looked at Josep, who had his head down, and Olivia, who was pale.
"Explain."
Under Owen's sharp gaze, Olivia looked like she was about to cry and tried to defend herself, "Dad, I didn't do it. I have no grudge against Jennifer. Why would I push her?"
"Yes, you had no grudge. Why would you harm her? Because the person you wanted to harm wasn't her, it was Cecily."
Owen shook his head. "No, that's not right. Cecily doesn't have much of a grudge against you either. It's because Cecily is close to Darian. Your real goal was to create chaos, the more, the better, to cause trouble for Darian. Am I wrong?"
As Owen spoke, his sharp gaze fell on Josep.
"No, that's not what happened," Olivia said, panicking and shaking her head.
In the face of Owen's questioning, Josep finally raised his head and said, "Dad, you misunderstood us. I admit Olivia did it, but she was just concerned about Aurelia."
Owen sneered, "Go on."
"Dad, do you remember the incident where Victor was drugged?
"I later found out that Freya and Jennifer drugged him, which almost led to something happening between Victor and Aurelia.
"Olivia and I were angry when we found out, so when Olivia saw Jennifer on the rooftop that day, she followed her. When Olivia saw that Jennifer was already thinking of jumping, she gave her a push."
This excuse was as flimsy as it could get, and Cecily was speechless.
No one would believe it, and it was a wonder Josep could even say it.
Olivia quickly nodded in agreement. "That's right, Dad. I held a grudge because of that incident. Freya and Jennifer were so malicious, they almost ruined Victor and Aurelia's lives forever."
Olivia pretended to wipe away tears and continued, "Now Aurelia avoids her own brother because of the psychological trauma. How could I not hate her? But I only hated Jennifer and Freya. I had no intention of harming Cecily or Darian."
Josep and Olivia kept explaining themselves, trying to make Owen believe them.
But their explanations were full of holes, and Cecily couldn't listen to them anymore. "Five minutes ago, you said Aurelia and Freya were best friends. Now you hate Freya and Jennifer? Aren't your excuses ridiculous?"
