Chapter 11
Soon, Cecily's car pulled up in front of the Fitzgerald's place.
She quickly got out of the car and took a deep breath. She knew for sure what she was about to face, but still, she strode towards the entrance.
Upon seeing her, the servant at the door was momentarily stunned. "Mrs. Fitzgerald?"
This servant had served the Fitzgerald family for many years, back when Cecily was still Darian's wife, so she knew Cecily.
"Mrs. Fitzgerald, aren't you...?" she asked in disbelief.
'Wasn't she supposed to be dead? How could she be here again?' she wondered.
Cecily coldly retorted, "We are divorced, so you don't need to address me like that. Where is Darian?"
"Mr. Fitzgerald just returned. He's in the study," the servant replied.
Cecily walked in briskly.
The servant was taken aback. "Ms. Watson, you..."
The servant wanted to add something, but seeing Cecily's commanding presence, she swallowed her words.
Cecily headed upstairs. She couldn't be more familiar with everything here, so went straight to Darian's study.
A blazing anger was burning within Cecily. She had surrendered many times, but not this time. Griffin was important to her, even more than her own life. She could not tolerate Darian taking him away.
Without hesitation, Cecily pushed the door open.
"Darian, you scoundrel, give my child back to me!" Her anger erupted upon seeing Darian.
Darian raised his eyes from the computer screen. Seeing Cecily burst in, he frowned.
"Cecily, you've got the nerve. How dare you come to my door?" he said.
Cecily retorted, "Darian, be mad at me all you want, but why take it out on a kid?"
Darian squinted, "What do you mean?"
"Stop playing dumb! Where is the child you took at the airport now?" she snapped back.
Darian's face darkened, as he understood her meaning. He stood abruptly, his eyes icy as he faced Cecily. "I can't believe you'd mention the child."
He thought, 'She had abandoned that child when she faked her death. And now, she dared to demand him back!'
With the thought in mind, Darian's face took an even darker shade.
"That child has nothing to do with you. Why should I give him to you? Cecily, give up on this idea." he said.
"How can you be so shameless?" Cecily was almost shouting.
She thought, 'How could he claim the child was his?' She glared fiercely at him, struggling to control her emotions.
Their eyes locked in a tense standoff.
Darian stared into her eyes. Those eyes were once filled with tenderness, but now cold and resentful.
He wondered, 'What did she resent me for? She was the one who had abandoned the child. She left by faking her death, and I had to raise Rowan myself. It's been five years with the child. I won't give Rowan back to her.'
"Fine. Darian, I'm not here to persuade you. I've already called the police. If you don't return the child to me, then we'll meet in court." Cecily was trying to calm her voice.
But she would never compromise on this matter.
The coldness in Darian's eyes deepened.
He sneered in his heart, 'How dare she? Call the police and threaten to take me to court?'
Darian strode forward.
Cecily was to push Darian away as he approached, but he firmly grasped her wrist.
The next moment, the room whirled as Cecily was shoved against the desk by Darian.
Her V-neck shirt stretched taut, accentuating her silhouette. Her slender, fair neck and delicately alluring collarbones were starkly exposed.
A strange tension crackled in the air between them.
Cecily felt his threat. She struggled. "Darian, what are you doing?"
She tried all she could to push him away, but only to find him pressing harder.
Darian lifted her chin, his voice low and hoarse. "You want that child this desperately?"
"That child is mine." she retorted.
"Cecily, it's been five years, and you are even more unreasonable," Darian said.
Trying to free herself from his grip, Cecily bit down on his hand hard. Her teeth sank into his finger, feeling the taste of blood, and then she let go.
Darian furrowed out of pain.
Blood stained Cecily's lips, adding a touch of allure to her appearance.
With icy determination in her eyes, Cecily met his stare head-on. Gritting her teeth, she gathered all her strength to push him away.
Darian stepped back to steady himself.
At that moment, the servant at the door knocked in urgently, followed by several police officers. After showing their badges, they said, "We received a report of child abduction here."
Cecily stepped forward immediately, "Sir, it's him! He took my child!"
"You called the police?" Darian's frown deepened, his eyes filled with upright hostility.
The police asked, "Miss, do you have any evidence to prove that Mr. Fitzgerald took your child?"
"I don't. But my child must still be in this house, only if we search." Cecily stated firmly.
Upon hearing Cecily's words, Darian coldly smiled, "Of course there is a child. Because he's my son, who has nothing to do with her."
"Lying! I gave birth to him. He's my son. You made me take those pills to end the pregnancy, all to get back at me for Ophelia's child. You've always claimed he's not yours, so why try to take him from me now?" she retorted.
Cecily's mind flashed with memories of the past, each reminding her of the pain she had been through. She found it hard to catch her breath.
Angered by Cecily's words, Darian thought, 'What did she mean by "taking her child"? I took care of Rowan all these years, and is it my fault?'
He said, "Cecily, how could you blame me for this? Fine, let the kid make the choice. I'll call him over now and see if he recognizes you as his mother."
Cecily sneered. She thought, 'How humiliating! How could Griffin not recognize me?'
So she agreed, "Fine, if he does, you'll give him back to me, and you'll stay out of our lives for good."
Darian's lips curled as he said, "Alright, but what if he doesn't?"
Cecily felt a bit strange. She thought, 'How could he be so certain?'
"Answer my question. What will you do if he doesn't recognize you?" Darian pressed on relentlessly.
