Chapter 501 Waiting for Death at Home

Bryan managed a wry smile.

He didn't even have the right to look at Cecily now, let alone get a blood sample for a paternity test.

Suddenly, a painful scream came from the ward; Freya had woken up.

"Dad! Help me, help me!" Freya cried.

Bryan frowned, got up, and strode into the ward, where he saw two nurses holding her down. He shouted, "What are you doing?"

"Dad, save me, they're trying to hurt me." Freya seemed to be in immense pain, screaming continuously, "It hurts, my whole body hurts."

Bryan pushed the two nurses away. "What are you doing to her?"

The nurse quickly explained, "Sir, you misunderstand. Miss Cruz just had her wounds bandaged and can't move around, or she'll tear them open."

Clearly, Bryan didn't believe the nurse. "Why is she saying it hurts?"

The nurse pursed her lips. They weren't allowed to use anesthesia while treating her wounds. She was covered in injuries; of course, it hurt.

"Miss Cruz's wounds were treated without anesthesia." The person who brought her to the hospital had requested this, and the nurse didn't see a need to hide it.

"Dad, they're going to hurt me to death. Please get me out of here; it really hurts." Freya was wrapped up like a mummy, tears streaming down her face from the pain.

Bryan knew this was Darian's doing. Freya had made mistakes, but she was covered in wounds, and not using anesthesia was simply too cruel.

"Give her anesthesia," Bryan said angrily.

"But..."

"But what? Give her anesthesia immediately."

The nurse had no choice but to follow Bryan's orders.

Bryan frowned deeply, looking at Freya, who was still crying out in pain. His mind drifted to the image of Cecily collapsing in front of him.

Freya could still cry out in pain, but Cecily didn't even have the chance to do that.

Bryan gritted his teeth, feeling suffocated every time he thought about it.

The air here was too stifling; he didn't want to stay any longer and prepared to leave.

But Freya called out to him, "Dad, where are you going? I'm scared. Won't you stay with me?"

Bryan turned to look at Freya. "Aren't you going to ask how Cecily is doing?"

Freya's lips twitched.

"Isn't it because of saving you that she was sent to replace you? If you hadn't been so clingy at the time, she would have been saved. Freya, don't you feel any gratitude or guilt at all?" Bryan asked.

Freya's heart pounded.

She thought, 'Is he blaming me?

'From Dad's words, it seems Cecily is still alive. How could she still be hanging on?'

Freya felt no guilt; in fact, she wished Cecily would die quickly.

But these thoughts were hers alone; she still needed Bryan's protection. Without it, she feared Darian might have her tortured to death.

With that in mind, Freya gritted her teeth, ignoring the searing pain from her injuries, and got down on her knees before Bryan.

"Dad, I was wrong. I shouldn't have held onto Cecily. I admit, I had ill intentions at the time. She was responsible for Mom's death, and I couldn't let it go. I acted impulsively, and now I'm paying the price. Dad, punish me if you must. I deserve it. I'm the one who's at fault."

She knew Bryan had raised her for so many years and wouldn't really let her die.

Freya kept kowtowing and apologizing, admitting her mistakes while bringing up Jennifer's death.

She wanted Bryan to remember Jennifer's sacrifice and understand that they wouldn't let her go this time. She was warning Bryan to protect her, or she would be the next to fall.

As Freya had anticipated, Bryan's gaze softened with visible reluctance.

He looked up, took a deep breath, said nothing more, and turned to leave.

Freya knew Bryan had softened; he would protect her.

As soon as Bryan walked out, Larkin and his men were stationed at the door of the ward.

"Mr. Whitaker," Larkin greeted him with little enthusiasm, just a polite nod.

"What do you want?" Bryan asked.

Larkin glanced into the ward and sneered. "Don't worry, we won't do anything to Miss Cruz for now. We're just here to ensure her safety."

It was more like surveillance and control than protection.

And it was only "for now."

Because Freya was still useful to Darian, he wouldn't touch her for the time being. But she had put Cecily in grave danger and caused Darian and Cecily to lose a child.

Once Darian dealt with the mastermind behind this, he wouldn't spare any of these people.

Maybe not even Bryan!

Bryan looked at Larkin and said dejectedly, "Freya is my daughter. She made mistakes because I didn't teach her well. If you need to take a life for a life because Cecily lost her child, then take mine."

Larkin found Bryan somewhat pathetic. The thing he wanted most was a daughter, but now, for the sake of a venomous adopted daughter like Freya, he had put his biological daughter Cecily in grave danger and caused the death of his own grandchild.

"Was it worth it?" Larkin asked Bryan.

Bryan gave a bitter smile; he didn't know how to answer.

Larkin sighed. "Mr. Whitaker, you will regret all the decisions you made today. The truth that follows will show you that you've made a mistake that even your life can't atone for."

After finishing everything, Larkin went back to report to Darian.

Darian stood by the observation window, looking at the seemingly comatose Cecily inside.

Larkin cautiously said, "Boss?"

"Speak directly."

"It's done. Also, Blaise has taken control of Josep's men. And..." Larkin thought of the scenes and felt a bit horrified, unsure how to describe them.

"Let him be."

"But Evander is also involved. He's Miss Watson's friend and a member of the Lockwood family. If the Lockwood family finds out, they won't let Blaise off."

"Do you think the Lockwood family can deal with Blaise?"

Larkin thought for a moment and said, "Understood."

None of the people Josep and Percy sent out returned, not even Evander, which made Percy anxious.

"No traces at the scene?" Percy paced back and forth, agitated.

He thought, 'So many people, could they all have vanished into thin air?'

"Indeed, there are no traces."

Josep, burning with anger, asked, "Then where are Cecily, Darian, and Freya?"

Mark immediately replied, "We haven't found out where Darian and Cecily are, but Freya has been taken to the hospital by Darian's men. She was covered in blood and seriously injured.

"Our people saw Blaise at the hospital. He had extensive connections and a good relationship with Cecily. It was possible he had saved Cecily; otherwise, he wouldn't have suddenly appeared at the hospital."

"Blaise?" Josep squinted his eyes. "Can you confirm he took Cecily away?"

Mark lowered his head; he hadn't found Cecily's whereabouts, so he couldn't be sure.

Josep cursed anxiously, "Useless!

"To make so many people disappear without a trace, besides Darian, only Blaise could do it, or maybe they did it together."

As soon as Mark finished speaking, Sawyer came running in, looking terrified as if he had seen something horrifying.

Josep quickly walked over and grabbed Sawyer.

"Why are you in such a hurry?"

Sawyer's face was ashen, his eyes wide with terror. Despite being a veteran of the Fitzgerald family, having weathered countless storms, he looked utterly ghostly at this moment, as if he had seen a specter.

"They're back," Sawyer swallowed hard. "They've come back."

"Who?" Percy frowned and walked up, looking at Sawyer.

"Those missing people," Sawyer stammered.

A sense of dread washed over Josep. He dashed outside and stopped dead in his tracks, overwhelmed by the sight before him.

Aurelia and Olivia's piercing screams filled the air, and in front of him was a row of bodies covered with white sheets, the heavy smell of blood filling his nostrils.

Josep's heart sank. He forgot to breathe, feeling the weight of panic in his chest. Dragging his shaky legs forward, he stumbled closer.

In front of the bodies were four coffins, each engraved with the names of his family members.

A cold knot twisted in Josep's gut, and he collapsed onto the ground, lost in despair.

With the coffins before him, the scene felt surreal, an icy breeze sweeping through him, sending chills down his spine.

Percy, bursting out of the house, was met with an utterly chilling sight. Horror struck him, mental images racing through his mind.

Without a second thought, he rushed forward, pulling the white sheets back one by one. Each revelation made his body shudder.

When he finally reached the end, relief washed over him as he didn't find Evander's body. The breath he had been holding escaped him in a rush.

He closed his eyes tightly and saw a trembling figure nearby; Colin had also been sent back.

Percy grabbed Colin by the collar and asked through gritted teeth, "Who did this? Was it Darian?"

Colin trembled, his pants wet with urine. "No, it was a man named Blaise."

"They're all dead. Why were you sent back?"

"He had a message for me to deliver."

"What message?" Josep asked weakly, his body limp.

"He said... he said for you to wait at home and die."
