Chapter 273 Mutual Use and Balance

Caleb nodded in agreement with Evan's words. "Exactly, why should she have all the good things? You should go to the banquet together."

Cecily lightly pursed her lips. "But aren't you afraid of making a fool of yourselves at the banquet?"

"To us, making a fool of ourselves is less concerning than getting the heir wrong," Evan said with a sense of righteousness, as if he had no selfish motives.

Cecily lowered her gaze to the invitation in her hand and then looked at the two of them.

She knew that perhaps they did have the Bennett family's best interests at heart and didn't want to mix up the heir, but there were also selfish motives involved, wanting to use her as a tool against "Cecily" at the Bennett family.

Similarly, when she went to the Bennett family, it was a delicate balance until they both figured out who the real Cecily was.

And of course, these two were just sitting back and watching the show, to determine the truth and assess each one's power.

Cecily smiled lightly.

She wasn't one to stir up trouble, and this was clearly a trouble-making situation that she shouldn't get involved in. But the plastic surgery woman wanted too much, and she couldn't let her mother's things fall into the hands of outsiders.

So, even though she knew that going this time would cause a scene, she had to go.

And by going, she was openly challenging the "Cecily" at the Bennett family.

Seeing her hesitate, Evan asked, "What do you think?"

Cecily pursed her lips and smiled faintly. "I'll go."

Evan and Caleb exchanged a smile, and Evan nodded. "Good, the Bennett family has invited nobles and aristocrats from all over this time. They have already arranged a hotel for you to stay in. The banquet is in two days. You should come with us now."

"I can't go now. It's too sudden, and I haven't discussed it with my family. I can't keep disappearing like this," Cecily said as she put the invitation into her bag.

"After I discuss it with my family, I will come. You two can rest assured. Since I have promised to go, I won't break my word."

Evan nodded and didn't insist. "Alright, please do so as soon as possible."

"Okay," Cecily agreed.

"Then we will take our leave."

The two of them stood up, and Cecily also rose, maintaining a confident and polite attitude, without being overly humble or insincere.

Evan turned back to look at Cecily, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes.

As the two of them left, Cecily didn't linger in the cafe and walked out directly.

She needed to discuss this matter with Darian. After all, she was currently living with the Fitzgerald family, and she wouldn't be able to come back for a day or two if she went to the Bennett family. She didn't plan to bring the children, fearing any danger, so they would need Darian's care.

After some thought, Cecily glanced at the time. It was a little past nine in the morning, and Darian should be in a morning meeting. She didn't want to disturb him, so she decided to go during lunchtime.

She had been busy at the company until noon. Cecily called Larkin first, and Larkin's respectful voice came through the phone. "Mrs.Watson."

"Larkin, is Darian busy?" asked Cecily.

Larkin paused for a second and then asked, "Mrs.Watson, is there something you need?"

Cecily went straight to the point. "I have something to discuss with him. I was planning to come to the company during lunch break. If he's busy, we can talk in the evening."

Larkin hesitated for a few seconds, as if contemplating something, and then replied to Cecily, "Mrs.Watson, Darian is not busy right now. You can come over. It's just that he often forgets to eat."

Cecily suddenly didn't know what to say.

"Mrs.Watson?"

Cecily smiled. "I understand. I'll come later then."

"Alright, Mrs.Watson. I will inform the receptionist downstairs to expect you," said Larkin.

"Thank you."

After hanging up the phone, Cecily looked at her phone and shook her head lightly.

No wonder Larkin could stay by Darian's side; a man that clever was a rare find.

An assistant knocked on the door of Cecily's office and entered, asking, "Mrs.Watson, Miss Aurelie is asking if you'd like to join her for lunch?"

"No, I won't have lunch with her today. I have something to do."

"Alright."

Cecily picked up her coat and left the company.

Half an hour later, she arrived at the Fitzgerald Group.

Because Larkin had informed them in advance, Cecily was respectfully ushered into the elevator. Before entering, she overheard two receptionists whispering to each other.

"I heard from Larkin that this is Darian's wife."

"She looks so elegant, but isn't she the suspect who harmed Mrs. Thompson a few days ago?"

"Lower your voice. Darian cleared her name, and the police haven't reached a conclusion, so let's not spread rumors. Be careful it reaches Darian's ears."

Cecily listened quietly to the gossip, not taking it to heart. When the elevator arrived, she walked in directly.

Although Darian had been suppressing this matter for her, the police had opened a case, and the media was heavily publicizing it. If it wasn't resolved quickly, the issue would resurface.

So she had to find the flaws in the fake Cecily as soon as possible and expose her lies.

Inside Darian's office, which was luxurious yet understated, the lighting was as bright as daylight.

Darian sat in his dark office chair, his eyes scanning the documents in his hand.

At that moment, there was a light knock on the office door, and Darian's brow furrowed slightly as he called out, "Come in."

Hearing the response, Cecily walked in.

Darian probably thought it was his secretary coming in to deliver documents, as he didn't even look up, focusing on the papers in his hand.

Cecily walked over quietly, her delicate high heels making a crisp sound on the floor.

Seeing that Darian didn't raise his head, Cecily reached his desk and placed the items in her hand.

Darian's gaze first fell on the exquisitely packaged lunch box, and his frown deepened. In a low voice, he said, "I told you that you didn't have to prepare anything for me."

"You need to eat," Cecily replied in a nonchalant tone.

Darian looked up, his deep gaze landing on the woman's delicate face.

After a slight surprise, a hint of amusement flickered in his eyes. "Why did you suddenly come to the office?"

"I have something to discuss with you. I mentioned it to Larkin. Didn't he tell you?" Cecily said.

Upon hearing this, Darian realized. "He's quite clever."

Cecily wholeheartedly agreed, "Larkin is indeed clever."

"I'll give him a raise," said Darian.

It was clear he was in a good mood, his gaze returning to the lunchbox. "Did you bring this especially for me?"

Cecily nodded. "Larkin reminded me that you had time to see me but not to eat. Of course, I can understand what he was implying."

Darian stood up, his voice low and with a hint of a smile. "I'll double his salary."

Cecily chuckled, taking the lunchbox and walking over to the coffee table. "Come and eat."
