Chapter 124 Cleaning House for Cecily

"Darian, where are you going?" Declan asked.

"To the police station."

Watching Darian's retreating figure stride away, the two exchanged glances. Was he off to clean house for Cecily?

Cecily opened her eyes to the scent of disinfectant all around.

"Awake?"

"Hayden, Declan? Where am I?"

Cecily blinked her eyes, trying to shake off the drowsiness that fogged her mind upon waking. As her vision adjusted to the brightness of the room, she looked at the two people beside her and asked, "Where am I?"

Hayden replied, "The hospital, you had a fever and passed out."

Memories slowly started pooling back into her consciousness.

She remembered now. Blaise had been taking her home when they ran into Darian, and then she felt dizzy and uncontrollably collapsed.

That explained why she had been feeling so miserable, alternating between cold and hot flashes; she had a fever.

Since Hayden and Declan were here, Darian must have been the one who brought her in.

"Where is he?" she inquired.

"Darian just stepped out for a bit," Hayden informed her.

"Just before you woke up," Declan added pointedly.

Cecily nodded, "Okay, thanks. You don’t have to stay with me, I’ll be fine on my own."

"No worries, we’re not busy, and we really enjoy helping out," Hayden remarked with a mild grin.

Cecily tugged at the corner of her lip, letting a slight smile show, "I can tell."

At the police station, Elysia's hysterical voice filled the air.

"I told you I didn't do it, I didn't, I didn't! How many times do you want me to say it?" she protested.

"I’m the real victim here, don't you understand? I’m the victim. Why aren't you going after Cecily instead of detaining me here?"

"Let me go!"

"It was Cecily who caused my downfall. Those people were summoned by her. She plotted to ruin my reputation..."

As she ranted, Elysia broke down into heavy sobs, "I've been victimized... It was that wretch Cecily who wrecked my life, she destroyed everything I had."

Elysia was collapsing into tears, her voice becoming a headache for the police.

Then, the interrogation room door opened, and a police officer addressed Elysia, "You are free to go."

Elysia stopped crying and lifted her tear-swollen eyes to the police officer, "Really?"

"Yes."

"Does that mean you’ve caught Cecily?"

"We're looking for her as she wasn’t at home," the officer replied vaguely.

Elysia, desperate, grabbed the officer's hand, pressing, "She must have fled because she's afraid of being caught. You have to find her; I demand justice..."

Hatred filled her eyes. Cecily had destroyed everything for her, and Elysia vowed to return the pain.

She was determined to make Cecily taste the bitterness of her own suffering.

The police were just about to release Elysia, but quickly another officer came over and said something, and Elysia was taken back into custody.

"What does this mean? What's going on?"

"There are still some doubts about the case, we temporarily can't let you leave," the officer explained.

Elysia's pupils shuddered.

"What? Why?" Outside, Ophelia, who heard the news that the five people were being detained again, was shocked.

She clutched her hands tightly, feeling an ominous premonition stirring within.

She reached out to Tristan, leveraging his connections to spring them from their bind. She feared these five might speak out of turn and implicate her in their stories.

However, now they were taken back into custody, and the only reason for that could be someone interfering.

Who could it be?

Ophelia clenched her molars, puzzled, when a flurry of footsteps approached the doorway.

Turning around, she saw a man in a sharp suit quickly walking in, his presence carrying a chilling air, with the police chief following alongside.

Ophelia's heart skipped a beat.

The man noticed her, his emotionless gaze sweeping over her, and Ophelia felt a wave of cold wash over her.

Frozen in place for five seconds, Ophelia snapped back to reality and quickly approached, asking, "Darian, what are you doing here?"

"I should be asking you the same question."

Ophelia mustered a forced smile, "Elysia got into a bit of trouble at the hotel... she's a friend of mine. I was afraid she'd be scared all by herself, so I came along. What about you, Darian?"

"Same as you, here because of the hotel matter."

Darian's voice was calm and devoid of emotion, which was not unusual for him, but Ophelia sensed an underlying thread of danger.

She suspected Darian knew something; otherwise, he wouldn't have come himself.

Ophelia fiddled with her fingers to the point of breaking the skin without realizing it.

Soon after, Raphael and Liora hurried over, having heard about the incident. Liora was frantic with worry. Upon seeing Ophelia, she immediately asked, "Ophelia, what's going on? What happened?"

"Uncle, Aunt, don't worry, I'm still trying to figure out what's going on. I don't know anything yet," Ophelia said, her face the picture of innocence.

“You…” Others might not know, but Liora was aware that her daughter had been working on her behalf, and now that an incident had occurred, how could Ophelia possibly be clueless?

Ophelia grasped Liora’s hand, locking eyes with her. “Aunt Liora, right now, we need to prioritize Elysia, correct?”

Liora was startled, how could she not understand? Prioritizing Elysia was Ophelia’s way of threatening her.

Biting her lip, Liora could only nod in agreement.

Ophelia’s gaze then shifted towards Darian.

Darian sat on the couch with a commanding presence like a king on his throne, his arm resting on the armrest. His long fingers tapped intermittently on the wooden surface.

He appeared calm, composed, and graceful like a gentleman, yet his eyes were filled with a bone-chilling coldness, as if he could crush someone to pieces at any moment.

Ophelia clenched her jaw, her heart racing with nervousness.

She didn't know how much Darian had found out, and a strong sense of unease gnawed at her.

Elysia, in the interrogation room, was breaking down into incessant sobs until finally, a police officer came in and led her out.

“Can I go now? Can I leave? Am I allowed to?” Elysia kept asking the officer, who was clearly annoyed by her persistent questioning.

When she emerged from the interrogation room, the first people Elysia saw were her parents. Throwing caution to the wind, she ran into their arms, her cries growing even more heart-wrenching.

“Mom, Dad, you must stand up for me, you have to,” she pleaded.

Raphael and Liora were devastated to see their daughter, whom they had always protected, in such a wounded state.

A bewildered Raphael, his eyes reddening with anger, demanded, “Elysia, tell your father what exactly happened?”

Elysia started to loudly accuse, “It’s Cecily! She did this to me; she planned it all!”

Raphael frowned, “Calm down and explain.”

Just as Elysia was about to say more, Ophelia hastily stepped in to stop her, “Elysia, let’s talk about this at home.”

Ophelia knew this fool was about to slander Cecily, accusing her of setting her up.

However, with Darian present, it was not the right moment to make such accusations.

Ophelia wasn't sure how much Darian had found out, and she knew that Elysia's continued slander of Cecily would only enrage Darian. More seriously, it could affect her. While she didn't care about what happened to Elysia, she did care about herself.

Elysia wasn't as considerate as Ophelia had hoped. Blinded by her own anger, she wanted Cecily to suffer just as she had. Thus, she blatantly ignored Ophelia's advice.

"Dad, Mom, it was that bitch Cecily who set me up," Elysia sobbed uncontrollably. "She took me to the hotel, locked me in a room, and sent someone to... to defile me, I... I..."

"What did you say?" Raphael looked at his precious daughter with immense pain and spat out bitterly, "That monster!"

"Is that true?" Darian asked after listening. The chill in his eyes intensified, and his demeanor was fraught with danger.
