Chapter 688 Aurelie's Stomachache
"Mommy." Rowan and Griffin slipped in nimbly.
Cecily sighed in relief when she saw them. "Rowan and Griffin, what are you two doing here? You scared me."
"Mommy, what are you doing?" Rowan picked up the phone that had fallen to the ground for Cecily.
"Mommy is doing something important. You two go watch the door for Mommy."
Cecily's heart was pounding as she anxiously tried to unlock her phone, but the screen was locked and wouldn't open.
Her heart sank. Without unlocking it, she couldn't make a call.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Aurelie didn't know what Cecily was up to. She had asked her to keep an eye out for Desmond's return. Aurelie was sitting in the living room watching when she saw Desmond hurrying back.
Aurelie's heart tightened. She quickly stood up from the sofa, glanced upstairs, and saw that Cecily hadn't come down yet. Aurelie bit her lip and stepped forward. "Desmond."
Desmond stopped and looked at Aurelie. "Miss Miller, do you need something?"
Aurelie pursed her lips and found a topic. "I saw you rush out and rush back. Did something happen? Do you need my help?"
"Thank you, Miss Miller, but no need. Please sit down. I'm just going to my room to get something." With that, Desmond was about to go upstairs.
Aurelie had just seen Cecily head to Desmond's room. If Desmond went back now, he would catch Cecily red-handed.
"Desmond!" Aurelie shouted loudly.
Desmond was startled by her sudden yell and looked back at Aurelie, patting his chest. "Miss Miller, is there something else?"
Aurelie swallowed and walked over to grab Desmond's arm, preventing him from leaving. "Desmond, I need your help with something. Can you help me?"
"Go ahead."
Aurelie opened her mouth, her mind racing. "I just arrived yesterday, and I'm not very familiar with the Bennett Mansion. Could you show me around the Bennett Mansion now?"
Desmond frowned and glanced at the dark sky outside. "Now?"
Aurelie looked outside. Although it was absurd, she continued, "Yes, the night view of the Bennett Mansion must be beautiful, right?"
Aurelie forced a laugh, praying that Cecily would hurry up with whatever she was doing, or she would be caught.
Desmond didn't know what was up with Aurelie, who suddenly seemed so strange.
But he had urgent matters to attend to and couldn't agree to Aurelie's request.
"Miss Miller, how about tomorrow? I'll have someone show you around the Bennett Mansion tomorrow. I have something to do now, and it's already dark outside. You're pregnant, and it wouldn't be good if you caught a cold or accidentally fell."
Desmond made a good point. As he spoke, Aurelie kept glancing upstairs, but Cecily still hadn't come down.
Aurelie was going crazy with anxiety.
"It's fine. I just want to see the night view." Aurelie forced a laugh, feeling strange herself.
Desmond had no choice. Aurelie was a guest, and he couldn't refuse her. So he called a servant. "Please accompany Miss Miller for a walk and show her around the Bennett Mansion."
The servant nodded. "Yes."
Aurelie tugged at her lips. "Can't you show me around?"
Desmond paused, glanced at Aurelie's hand still holding his arm, and the atmosphere became awkward.
Aurelie quickly let go of Desmond. "Sorry, I just thought you, as a long-time employee of the Bennett Mansion, would know it better than anyone else. It would be better if you showed me around."
Desmond sighed. "Miss Miller, I really have something to do now. If you really want to see the Bennett Mansion, let her accompany you. She is also a long-time employee of the Bennett family and knows the Bennett Mansion very well. She can show you around just as well."
Aurelie racked her brain for ways to continue stalling, but Desmond had already started walking upstairs.
Aurelie took a deep breath and suddenly screamed, clutching her abdomen and bending over in pain.
Desmond and the servant immediately rushed over. "Miss Miller, are you okay?"
"My stomach suddenly hurts." Aurelie cried out in pain, her eyes constantly glancing upstairs.
"Go get a doctor." Desmond immediately instructed the servant.
Aurelie was helped to the sofa, still crying out in pain.
"Take good care of Miss Miller," Desmond instructed the servant.
"Wait!" Aurelie grabbed Desmond's arm. "Desmond, won't you stay with me?"
Desmond's expression stiffened. "Miss Miller, I'm not a doctor. I can't help you. The doctor will be here soon. Please wait a moment."
"But I want you to stay with me," Aurelie said.
She realized something was wrong as soon as she said it. She looked at Desmond, whose face was filled with horror.
Desmond stood frozen for several seconds before forcing a smile. "Miss Miller, I'm almost seventy. What do you mean by this?"
Aurelie quickly waved her hands in explanation. "Desmond, I didn't mean anything by it. Don't misunderstand. I just feel safe with you around."
Aurelie forced a bitter smile. When she looked at the stairs, she finally saw Cecily coming down. Aurelie felt a sense of relief.
Cecily walked down as if nothing had happened. Seeing Desmond and Aurelie pulling at each other, she curiously asked, "What's going on here?"
Aurelie quickly let go of Desmond. "Desmond, you can go. Cecily is here, so I'm not afraid anymore."
Desmond hurriedly left.
Cecily looked at Desmond and Aurelie in confusion. "What did you do? Desmond looked like he couldn't wait to run away from you."
Aurelie was on the verge of tears. "I should be asking you that. What did you do? I barely managed to stall Desmond for you."
Cecily took out the phone card she had been holding in her palm.
Unable to unlock the phone, Cecily had removed the SIM card from Desmond's phone.
There was no other way. Only calls from Desmond's phone number could reach Vivienne, so she had to come up with this plan.
Cecily explained everything to Aurelie, who let out a heavy sigh. "So that's what it was. I thought you were up to something else. You scared me to death."
"How did you manage to stall Desmond?"
Aurelie's face turned awkward. "By being shameless."
