Chapter 615: He died, and she didn't know what to do

At this moment, it was dead quiet inside. Aurelie leaned against the door, holding her breath, straining to hear anything. Not a peep.

She pounded on the door, "Nathaniel? You good in there?"

The worst part was not being able to see squat. Aurelie kept banging, hoping for any kind of response, even the tiniest noise.

That would mean Nathaniel was still kicking, but the silence was killing her, making her anxiety skyrocket.

She was freakin' terrified!

She'd rather be the one inside, or the one to bite the dust!

"Nathaniel! Nathaniel! Nathaniel!" she yelled.

No matter how much she screamed, there was nothing from inside.

Aurelie's heart felt like it was being stabbed with needles. She clutched her chest, whimpering, head hanging low in sorrow.

"Why'd you come? You should leave me to deal with this alone. Even if I die, I'm cool with it. Why'd you get involved for someone like me, wrecking yourself over and over? It's not worth it. What am I gonna do if you die? I've been drowning in guilt for ten years. You want me to feel guilty forever? Nathaniel, come out!" she cried.

She was in so much pain.

Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

'I am bad news to Nathaniel, it happened eleven years ago, and now again.'

'It is all my fault!'

'Why is this happening? Let me die, let me trade my life for his!'Cecily looked at Aurelie's collapsed, desperate, and painful state, her eyes welling up. Wiping away her tears, she walked over and gently hugged Aurelie.

Aurelie knelt on the ground, trembling all over. She closed her eyes tightly, her already hoarse voice full of pain, "Cecily, it's all my fault, isn't it? I am doing it again, just like eleven years ago. I keep hurting him. The one who should die is me!"

Cecily's throat felt tight.

She had wanted to tell Aurelie more than once that the person who saved her eleven years ago wasn't Nathaniel.

But every time she tried, she couldn't. Now, she definitely couldn't say it.

Not knowing how to comfort Aurelie, Cecily stayed silent.

Darian turned to look at Todd, who was standing behind him with a calm expression, "Why hasn't anyone come out from inside?"

There was no sound inside, meaning the fight had stopped.

Even if Nathaniel was really dead.

The people inside weren't all dead; they should've come out by now, but there was still no sign of movement.

Seeing this, Todd clicked his tongue and shook his head, "What a shame."

The people he sent in were his best. He knew Nathaniel wouldn't come out once he went in.

Nathaniel himself had guessed it too, yet he still went in and signed the agreement, so he couldn't blame anyone else.

As for Darian's question, Todd was also curious about what the people inside were doing, why they hadn't come out yet. Couldn't it be that so many people fighting one guy still got their butts kicked?

Just as he was thinking this, slowly, with a reluctant sigh, the heavy door creaked open, revealing a sliver of light.

Todd raised his chin, "Isn't it opening?" Then he told his subordinate, "You stay here and watch, let them take the body back themselves."

There was nothing more to see now that it was over. Todd didn't plan to stick around and watch them cry.

"Sir, he..." The subordinate raised his hand, pointing ahead, eyes wide open.

Todd took a step back when he saw who was coming out.

The surroundings fell silent instantly.

Aurelie's voice cut off, and she looked up, eyes locked on Nathaniel standing in the doorway.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

Time seemed to freeze.

Aurelie's red eyes took in the sight of blood-soaked Nathaniel, her heart skipped a beat, then started pounding like crazy, ready to burst out of her chest.

She had no idea how long had passed.

Nathaniel leaned against the door frame with one hand, his eyes bloodshot, staring at Aurelie kneeling on the ground. He managed a weak smile and said, "Who said I was gonna die?"

Aurelie snapped out of her daze, and Nathaniel couldn't hold on any longer, collapsing forward.

Aurelie jumped up and caught Nathaniel's battered body, the smell of blood hitting her hard. She didn't have the strength to hold him up, and they both sank to the ground, Nathaniel's head resting heavily on her still trembling shoulder.

Aurelie's tears kept falling, her body stiff, lips trembling uncontrollably. She called out to him excitedly, "Nathaniel." As if afraid it wasn't real, she was still super anxious.

"Yeah." Hearing her soft call in his ear, Nathaniel closed his eyes, his hoarse voice barely a whisper, "I'm fine, don't cry."

Cecily looked at the two of them kneeling together, her delicate features gradually calming, her heart also settling. Watching this scene, she had a clear answer.

One didn't know if he loved her.

One didn't know if it was guilt or love.

Wasn't this the best proof of love? They just hadn't realized it yet.

But that wasn't the most important thing now. The priority was Nathaniel's injuries. He walked out alive, but that didn't mean he was okay.

Cecily frowned and stepped forward.

"Nathaniel! Nathaniel!" Aurelie suddenly felt the head on her shoulder go limp, then there was no more movement. The little bit of relief she felt instantly vanished, "Cecily."

Cecily had already crouched down to check on Nathaniel.

He was alive, but barely. Cecily couldn't even look at the damage done to him. Every inch of his body told a story of pain. Yet he hadn't made a sound, not a whimper, or a cry. It was as if he were made of iron.

"Get a stretcher and some bandages, quick." Cecily found two fatal wounds on Nathaniel.

Moreover, his face was ashen, his lips a sickly purple, and his hands were ice-cold. He was drenched in blood. His blood loss was probably over thirty percent of his total blood volume, and his current unconsciousness was a symptom of shock.

"Cecily, will he be okay?" Aurelie asked.

Cecily took the bandages handed to her, skillfully tearing off his clothes, finding the biggest bleeding point and pressing on it. After doing this, the stretcher arrived. Cecily couldn't tell Aurelie if he would be okay; she could only tell her that Nathaniel was in critical condition.

"Get him to the hospital," Cecily shouted.

"Larkin, bring the car to the door," Darian quickly ordered.

A few people quickly took Nathaniel away. Todd still stood there. After they left, he walked into the room, the heavy smell of blood filling the air. His men were all down. He reached out to check their breathing; they were all alive, just knocked out.

Beating so many people and still coming out alive, it indeed exceeded Todd's expectations.

"Sir, he beat so many of our people, I'll go catch him back," a subordinate said.

"Get back here." Todd's face darkened, he raised his hand and knocked on his subordinate's forehead, "Don't we honor our words?"

He said if Nathaniel could come out alive, they would call it even, and he meant it.
