Chapter 85 Sleep with Me

The soft lighting highlighted the handsome man's striking features. His brows furrowed, and a hint of menacing danger peeked through his otherwise indifferent expression.

Cecily was startled by his intense look. As soon as Darian recognized it was Cecily, his expression softened slightly.

Cecily tried to stand up, but the grip on her wrist was secure. With a little force, she stumbled forward.

Darian assertively grabbed her slender waist and pulled her into his arms.

Caught off guard, Cecily's face was pressed against his toned chest. She immediately attempted to stand, but he held her in place. In a low voice, he asked, "What are you doing?"

Cecily glanced at their current position and thought it might have been better just to let him freeze to death in her living room.

"I was worried you'd freeze, so I brought you a blanket. Now, let me go," she replied.

Darian stared straight into Cecily's eyes, a quilt lying on the floor between them. He raised an eyebrow. "So you do care about me after all?"

"It's Aunt Mary who cares about you," Cecily countered.

"Let go, you lech," she snapped.

Darian had intended to release her, but her resistance made him suddenly change his mind. "Lech? You always come up with fresh insults for me."

Darian watched her angry eyes and couldn't help but find humor in the situation.

Struggling in vain, Cecily fumed, "I should just let you freeze to death."

Unconcerned, Darian turned, forcing Cecily to lie on the couch without releasing her grip. Clutching her like a cushion, he pulled the quilt over them. "Don't move."

"Don't move?" she fired back, kicking the quilt away. "You force yourself on me and tell me not to move? Let go, or I'll call the police."

Still holding her, Darian was still not moving. "Hmm, a married couple sleeping together—wonder what the police would say about that."

Cecily bit her lip in frustration. If Aunt Mary had been the one to come to his aid, he wouldn’t be holding her like this. Aunt Mary would likely react by hitting him with a shovel and then calling the police to remove him.

"Sleep with me," he demanded.

Her expression darkened. "What do you mean?"

"Exactly what I said," he slyly responded as he glanced at her. "Unless you were expecting something different, I don't mind either. You seem energetic enough." He reached out with his long arm, retrieving the quilt that was kicked away.

"So, not only do I take you in, but I also have to sleep with you? Darian, you..."

His voice, low and threatening, interrupted her. "Lie down and be still. One million a minute or keep fidgeting and be forced to stay still—choose one."

She cursed inwardly as she realized he was threatening her again all because she couldn't physically overpower him.

Cecily clenched her teeth. "Fine, just go sleep!"

'One million a minute', she thought, 'I'll sleep Darian into poverty!'

"Think you can bankrupt me in your sleep?" Darian asked, one eyebrow arched as he looked at Cecily's scheming expression.

'Damn!' Cecily thought. 'Is he a mind reader now? How does he always seem to know what I was planning?'

Darian gave her a look and said, "Get that idea out of your head. If you're planning to sleep me into poverty, think again in your next life."

Cecily knew Darian was wealthy. In their three years of marriage, she had yet to figure out just how wealthy he was.

In his usual fashion, the despicable capitalist flaunted his wealth with immense arrogance.

Darian closed his eyes, wrapping his arms around her and remained motionless, purely intent on sleeping.

Cecily shifted slightly, and Darian spoke up, "If you move again, we might have to do something else tonight."

Cecily froze and didn’t say a word. She lay there rigid, although they’d been married for three years, this was really the first time Darian had held her like this to sleep, and she was not accustomed to it, so much so that she didn’t dare close her eyes.

Cecily was puzzled by this man. She sensed something was off with Darian but couldn't quite put her finger on it.

While she was still mulling this over in her mind, she turned her head and found Darian already fast asleep.

It took her by surprise because this man had insomnia. Seeing him sleeping so easily made Cecil wonder what was going on. Perhaps her treatments had actually worked. It seemed impossible that just three treatments would have such a big effect.

If this was the case, it seemed she might not need to continue them.

Still wide-eyed and lost in thought, Cecily gradually grew tired, and without realizing it, she fell asleep as well.

At 3 am, the man in the bed, content like a sated beast, slowly opened his eyes.

As he felt the woman's breath against his arms, his usually sharp and cold dark pupils softened slightly. Lowering his head, the coldness in his expression melted into a hint of a smile.

Under the soft light, the woman lay curled up in his embrace, her sleeping face tranquil.

A smile crossed Darian's face as he gazed unwaveringly at the woman in his arms, feeling unexpectedly pleased.

She looked so well-behaved asleep, not at all like her usual confrontational and sharp-tongued self.

He stared at her, inhaling her sweet fragrance, and found it incredibly pleasing.

How strange it was, he thought, that in her presence, he could find such peaceful sleep. He wondered what sort of magic this woman possessed.

Darian's fingers gently traced the beautiful features of the woman's face, and when they reached her red lips, the soft tenderness made a burning desire flash through his eyes.

He lowered his head, moving closer to her red lips, as sweet as he had imagined.

Darian had never been one to hold back, especially considering she was already his wife, already his own. He believed that if it weren't for those past incidents, their marriage could have lasted indefinitely. Prior to those events, he had never even considered divorce.

Now, the thought of her being with another man filled him with a violent rage, and he unconsciously pressed harder until a faint metallic taste spread between their lips and teeth.

Darian really wanted to kiss this heartless woman awake.

Cecily stirred and then, with a "smack," her hand struck Darian's handsome face.

Darian stiffened, as the woman beside him closed her eyes, turned over, and continued to sleep deeply.

Her slap had jolted Darian back from the brink of losing his sanity. He touched his left cheek with the tip of his tongue.

A kiss and a slap, this woman, Cecily, even in her sleep, wouldn't let anyone take advantage.

Darian smiled to himself. It was still early, so he lay down on the couch again, holding the woman as they continued to sleep.

...

The next day.

Cecily woke up to find Darian still asleep. Glancing at the time, it was just past six. She immediately slipped away from his arms and returned to her room.

As soon as the woman left, Darian slowly opened his eyes and casually curled the corners of his lips.

Back in her room, Cecily licked her lips, sensing something amiss. There was a small cut on her lips, and it hurt. It made her wonder if Darian had done something inappropriate to her the previous night.
