Chapter 306 Don't Want to See Her, Don't Come Back to Sleep Tonight

"Did you assign someone to look into Eliza yesterday? Were you able to uncover anything?" Larkin hung his head. "Boss, it's my fault. I couldn't find anything. Everyone thought Eliza was dead back then, so no one bothered to investigate further. It's been over ten years now, so it's probably too late to dig up any information."

"It's been too long since Cecily's mother killed Mr. Patrick, making it challenging to investigate. Thirteen years have elapsed, during which time memories can fade, and the fatal car accident from back then was deemed accidental. The surveillance footage from that period is scarce, complicating the investigation.

A chill lingered between Darian's brows, unable to dissipate for a long time.

The study fell silent for a few seconds, and Darian's tall figure stood up straight and walked out in big strides.

Larkin hurried to catch up.

When they reached outside, Darian paused his steps and glanced towards the direction of the room, the room's door tightly closed.

Darian furrowed his brows and ordered, "Have the hotel staff prepare breakfast to be delivered."

"Alright. Boss, aren't you going to change your clothes before going out? It's still chilly outside." Larkin reminded.

Only then did Darian focus on his attire.

He should change.

Darian hesitated for two seconds. "Prepare some clothes for me."

With that said, Darian didn't enter Cecily's room but went straight to another room.

Larkin scratched his head, puzzled as to why his boss couldn't return to his room to change.

It's not that Darian couldn't go back to his room, but he temporarily didn't know how to face Cecily's questions.

He didn't want to keep secrets from her, but his mind was in turmoil, uncertain of how to respond to her inquiries.

In the room, Cecily was sitting on the sofa looking at her phone. She had seen the news from Bennett's Family confirming Ms. Bennett's identity, and she had also seen the video of Eliza.

Cecily put down her phone, unsurprised.

Eliza had clearly deceived the supervisors. Even if they were misled, they couldn't simply declare Eliza as Ms. Bennett without fully grasping the situation.

The press release video was orchestrated by Eliza and deliberately leaked.

Now, those who were unaware of the truth would think she was the Ms. Bennett recognized by Bennett's Family.

But fake was still fake. Even if it's announced to the public, it would never become real.

The higher she stands, the harder she falls.

Cecily didn't intend to dwell on these matters.

Two knocks sounded at the door.

"Cecily."

It was Larkin's voice.

Cecily walked over to open the door and saw Larkin standing respectfully at the door. She asked, "Have you finished talking?"

Larkin nodded. "Yes, Cecily. I'm here to help Boss get a change of clothes."

Cecily raised an eyebrow and glanced behind Larkin. "Where is he?"

"Boss is in another room." Larkin thought for a moment, perhaps to prevent Cecily from overthinking, he added, "Cecily, Boss is afraid of disturbing your rest, so he didn't go back to the room."

Cecily looked down, comprehending Larkin's actions without him needing to spell it out. She understood that by leaving directly the previous night without coming back to the room, choosing to sleep on the study sofa instead of the bed, and now having Larkin bring his clothes, he was avoiding her, not wanting to face her.

What did Ophelia tell him exactly?!

Cecily felt a bit annoyed, but seeing Larkin still waiting, she didn't say much, "Wait here, I'll get it for you."

"Okay, thank you, Cecily."

Cecily fetched a set of Darian's clothes and handed them to Larkin, " Tell him that if he doesn't want to see me, he can sleep outside tonight as well. He doesn't need to come inside."

"Ah? Cecily..."

Cecily thought for a moment and realized it was Darian's room. "Alright, I'll move out, ask him to come back.”

"Cecily, please don't do this." Larkin was anxious. If she left, his Boss wouldn't know where to find her. "Please don't leave, I'll go tell him to sleep outside tonight, please stay here."

After saying that, Larkin hurriedly went to find Darian.

Darian had finished washing up and was about to remove his shirt. When he noticed Larkin setting down the clothes and lingering, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is there something else?”

Larkin swallowed nervously and said, "Cecily left a message for you."

Upon hearing it was from Cecily, Darian raised an eyebrow. "Go on."

"Cecily said, since you don't want to see her, you might as well sleep outside tonight and not come back."

Darian glanced at him.

Larkin immediately lowered his head, "Boss, this is what Cecily said. I'm just relaying the message."

Darian's eyes deepened, a hint of helplessness flashing in his eyes.

She was clearly upset with him.

Darian didn't say anything and walked out quickly.

Seeing Darian like that, Larkin couldn't help but smirk.

Darian was getting anxious.

As Cecily was about to awaken the children, the door swung open. Darian entered, his shirt partially unbuttoned, revealing his muscular torso. Cecily barely had a chance to turn around before he was standing in front of her, enveloping her in a tight embrace.

"You?"

Cecily widened her eyes, looking at the handsome man in front of her. She tried to push him away. "Why did you come in? I thought you didn't want to see me..."

Before she could finish, he kissed her. Cecily was taken aback, trying to push him away, but her wrist was held and placed on his neck.

Her body quivered slightly as he held her close, gently kissing her and gradually intensifying the embrace. Uncertain of his intentions but mindful of not disturbing the children, Cecily attempted to stifle any sounds.

"Darian."

As the kiss came to an end, Darian drew closer to Cecily, gently pressing his forehead against hers. In a soft whisper, he said, "It's not that I don't want to see you. There are just things I haven't sorted out yet, and I'm not sure how to explain them to you. I didn't mean to keep them from you intentionally. Please don't be upset, alright?”

"So, is this your explanation?"

"When I sort things out, I will explain it to you."

Cecily looked up at him. With him saying that, what more could she say? "Okay."

"I have some things to take care of and need to go out for a while. You stay at the hotel and rest today. We'll go back tomorrow."

Darian gently stroked her soft hair, and before leaving, he added, "I'll come back early tonight to accompany you."

"I don’t need your accompany." Cecily turned her head away, not looking at him.

Darian smiled. "I need yours."

Cecily didn't respond.

Bennett's Family.

Desmond sat in the main hall, his expression gloomy as Eliza entered the room. She felt a twinge of nervousness and paused for a moment before approaching him.

Due to the injury on her back, she moved cautiously, taking slow steps. By the time she reached Desmond, he had been watching her intently for some time.

Eliza pursed her lips. "Desmond."

"Will the Bennett's family acknowledge your identity if you do this?" Desmond asked sternly.

Before understanding the situation, they couldn't acknowledge her identity.

She understood that, which was why she came up with this plan.

"I know, but I'm doing this just to dispel any doubts from the outside world," Eliza said coldly.

Desmond was furious. "Don't come up with these excuses. I know what you're up to."

Eliza smiled and said, "So what? Desmond, I don't understand why everyone is so eager to dismiss my identity just because of what others say. I've stated that I am Cecily. Even if I present myself as Ms. Bennett publicly, why does it concern you? It's all about me.”

Desmond was disappointed in her. "Your way of handling things makes it hard for me to believe you based solely on your words. You've taken this situation to an extreme, without considering the difficulties it will create for the Bennett family to resolve later on. Don't blame me for being ruthless."

Upon hearing Desmond's words, Eliza's heart skipped a beat, her expression instantly turning sour.

"What do you want to do?"

"We find your identity suspicious. You no longer have the right to stay in Bennett's Family. Please leave today, and we will have someone follow you until we confirm both of your identities," Desmond said sternly.

Eliza, seeing there was no room for negotiation, gritted her teeth. "Desmond, are you trying to rebel against me? I am Ms. Bennett, the lady of this house. Who do you think you are? Just because you've been with the Bennett family a bit longer and have been given the title of supervisor as a sign of respect, you now think you're in charge? Do you have the audacity to try and kick me out? Aren't you afraid that once the truth is revealed, I will be confirmed as the true Cecily?"

Desmond immediately adopted a stern expression. "If what you say is true, I will have no face to see the head of the house. I will resign from my position and never set foot in Bennett's Family again."

"You!" Eliza looked at Desmond, who had decided to kick her out, her expression turning even worse.

She had been strategizing to secure her position within the Bennett family, aiming to become the heiress and ultimately the head of the family. However, if she were to be ousted now, all her efforts would be for naught.

“Why are you kicking me out now? How do you think others will perceive your actions? Why make this decision so definitive?”

"That's not something you should be concerned about." With that, Desmond waved his hand, signaling for someone to escort her out.

Seeing no room for maneuver, Eliza gritted her teeth, "Desmond, you will pay for your actions today."

Once she assumed leadership of the Bennett Family and gained power, she wouldn't hesitate to deal with anyone who had obstructed her.
