Chapter 268 Mr. Fitzgerald Pressures Darian.
The Fitzgerald family, although safe, wasn't entirely reassuring to Darian with Owen giving Cecily a hard time every day.
But now there was another issue:Owen wanted to live with the two children. If Darian took them out, it might cause another commotion.
Once Darian and Cecily entered, Darian calmly instructed the servant, "Prepare a guest room."
"Yes, sir."
As soon as Darian finished speaking, a provocative voice came from the living room. "Look who's back, Darian."
Cecily and Darian raised their gazes and saw a middle-aged man standing next to Owen
Cecily had seen this man before; he was Darian's uncle, Cameron, who had attended Darian and Cecily's wedding.
After Darian's father had an accident, Cameron had been eager to claim the position of the head of the family. However, Owen didn't think his son was capable of that position. In his eyes, Darian was the rightful heir.
Cameron had repeatedly complained that Owen favored Darian. In response, Owen had directly kicked him out of the Fitzgerald family's old mansion, asking him to manage a Fitzgerald branch in another city with his family.
Now, bringing him back showed that Owen was disappointed in Darian and wanted to put some pressure on him.
It was a way of telling him, "I am the heir of the Fitzgerald family, and there is not only you. If you continue to defy me, I can easily find a competitor for you."
Cecily understood Owen's intentions, and of course, Darian did too.
However, Darian just raised an eyebrow slightly, his expression indifferent, as if he didn't care about the person in front of him at all.
Seeing Darian's cold expression, Cameron shifted his gaze to Cecily's hand in Darian's.
Cameron chuckled. "Darian, it seems that you are truly bewitched. This woman caused the death of your mother, yet you still treasure her like a gem."
Cecily tried to free her hand from Darian's grip, but he held it even tighter, not allowing her to escape.
Unable to break free, Cecily could only give up.
"The investigation is not over yet, and the police have not reached a conclusion. Who can prove her guilty? Can your words be taken as evidence?" Darian asked calmly.
Cameron raised an eyebrow. "Wasn't it your mother who said it? Could it be false?"
Darian sneered, "I've said it before. No one can guarantee that what they see is the truth."
Just then, Owen on the sofa slammed the coffee cup in his hand onto the table, making a dull sound, showing his anger at the moment.
Cameron glanced in Owen's direction, raised an eyebrow at Darian, and walked over to Owen, saying, "Dad, don't be angry. I have to say, Darian and Phoenix are really alike. They both defy you for a woman."
Cameron's intention to sow discord was too obvious. Owen looked at his eldest son and finally turned his gaze to Darian and Cecily.
"What do you want by bringing her back?" he asked in a low, serious voice, filled with doubt and dissatisfaction.
Darian's face remained expressionless, and he replied in a cold tone, "From now on, she will live with me."
Owen was visibly taken aback by his response, his voice rising in protest. "I don't agree!"
"It has nothing to do with me," Darian said coldly.
Owen was furious. "Why do you keep defying me over and over again? This is unfilial!"
"It is you who keeps obstructing me. I have grown up, and I can't even choose who I want to live with. Moreover, she is the mother of my children. On the one hand, you want to live with the children, and on the other hand, you keep driving her away. Don't you think you've gone too far?" Darian stood in front of Owen, calmly questioning.
"Dad, look at this. Darian is defying you. He is the heir you personally chose, but it seems he's not that great," Cameron interjected, trying to sow discord.
Cecily glanced at Cameron. His words made her extremely uncomfortable.
Cecily couldn't find words to describe this person.
After much thought, she came up with one.
Despicable.
Darian's cold gaze fell on his uncle. "Uncle Cameron, I'm surprised you'd come back after all these years and take up being cunning. It suits you well."
Cameron narrowed his eyes. "Darian, I'm just stating the facts."
"So am I," said Darian.
Cameron gritted his teeth in anger but didn't know what else to say.
"Grandfather, my mind is made up, and no one can change it. If you can't accept it, I will take her and the children and move out," Darian said firmly.
Owen suddenly looked up. "You want to take the two children as well?"
"Should the children not live with their parents and instead with you?" Darian raised an eyebrow and asked. "Ask the children themselves if they are willing."
Owen clenched his teeth. "Do you have to disturb the peace of the Fitzgerald family estate?"
"The one who has been causing disturbances all along is you, isn't it?" Darian retorted.
Owen's brow furrowed. The two children were not particularly close to him, and taking them away would only widen the gap.
But now, with Darian taking such a stand, he could do nothing.
It was better to have Cecily under his supervision than out of sight.
He sighed heavily. "You can't take the children away, but do as you wish with the rest."
Owen had compromised.
"Dad, how can you let Darian do as he pleases?" Cameron exclaimed.
Owen glanced at his son, who had been sowing discord. "Shut up. I brought you back not to sow discord. If you continue to do so, go back to your branch company."
Cameron, knowing his father's temper, had no choice but to keep quiet.
Darian led Cecily upstairs. "Just stay here and don't worry about anything else."
"Owen brought your uncle back. You know exactly what it means. It's not worth it for you to defy him for me," Cecily said.
Darian smiled. "You actually consider me."
"I just don't want to cause you trouble. I could stay somewhere hidden, with a few bodyguards for protection. You don't have to do this."
"I think it's the best decision I can make right now."
Cecily couldn't argue with Darian anymore and gave up. "Take me to see Mrs. Thompson."
Darian raised an eyebrow. "Now?"
"Yes, I should go see her."
"Alright, let's go and explain things clearly." Darian didn't refuse and led her towards the hospital.
