Chapter 64 Divorce, We’ll Be Square
After Darian finished speaking, Cecily’s face showed no joy. "And if I can't leave with the child?"
"From then on, you’ll do as I say, on call. Whatever I ask of you, you must do it, including sharing my bed."
Like a toy, like off-limits delicacy.
Cecily’s body shuddered, her face instantly took on a pallid hue as her lips parted in retort, "This is Silver Frost Capital. You’re asking me to flee with a child from your domain, where you can turn the skies with a flip of your hand, Darian. You’re intentionally making this difficult for me."
Could a single word from him bring her back? Was this what he called giving her a chance?
"Yes, I am making it deliberately hard for you."
Darian raised his hand, and his icy fingers once again gently grazed her fair and delicate cheek.
"Cecily, I want you to learn to yield in front of me. There’s only one chance. Seize it well. I’ll let you run for an hour, and I won’t touch you. Flee or hide, it’s your choice. However, an hour later, within two hours, don’t let me catch you. If you manage that, you win. Do you dare?"
"Two hours, and I just have to avoid being caught by you?" Cecily confirmed the rules once more.
"Correct. I’ve already lowered the stakes for you, Cecily. Freedom is right in front of you. It depends on whether you can seize it."
Cecily clenched her fists, her entire heart trembling continuously.
What should she do?
This might be her only chance to take Rowan away from the Fitzgerald family.
However, she knew that in this game, like the card game earlier that day, her odds of winning were slim against his absolute power.
Darian didn't give her much time to think. He asked her, "How about it? Cecily, do you play?"
Cecily clenched her jaw tight, mulling over her thoughts. As Darian’s patience was running thin, she finally answered with resolve, "Okay."
Taking a gamble was the only option left.
Darian looked at her and laughed—a cold, menacing laugh. "You've got guts," he said.
"Can you stick to your word, Darian?"
"Of course."
Excitement flared in Darian's eyes.
What an interesting game.
However, he was certain he would be the winner.
Clenching her teeth, Cecily took a few steps towards the door. Before leaving, she turned back to Darian and said solemnly, "I wonder, Darian, if one day you find out Rowan is your own flesh and blood, will you regret what you did today? I'm looking forward to finding out."
Darian snorted with cold amusement. "Don't worry, I never will."
With an inward sneer, Cecily quickly left.
Darian stood alone in the empty room for a long time after Cecily left, his inner turmoil raging. Did she really think she could escape him?
She knew her chances were slim, yet she agreed to his terms.
With a grim expression, Darian punched the mirror opposite him, shattering it.
After a moment, he picked up his phone. "Pull all the guards from the hospital. If Cecily comes, let her take the child."
He ended the call, then threw his phone to the ground.
She couldn't escape him. As long as she cared for anyone in this city, she would never be out of his reach.
After leaving the club, Cecily got into her car and connected to Bluetooth. The first call was to Blaise, asking for his help to leave with Rowan.
Next, she called Aurelie. She had run, and Darian would likely take someone close to her to force her to return. For Aurelie's safety, and for her own, it was best to lay low for the next couple of hours.
Her third call was to Griffin. She quickly explained the situation.
She couldn't take Griffin with her today.
Since Darian didn't know about Griffin, he would always be safe.
If she took Griffin with her and they were discovered, it would be a total disaster.
She and Rowan were already in danger, so she couldn't drag Griffin into this mess.
Just wait out these two hours, and she could snatch Griffin away at any moment.
Soon enough, Cecily's car pulled up at the hospital, and as she entered the room, she found herself up close with Rowan for the first time.
Rowan looked at Cecily, his entire being took an aback, his large eyes brimming with surprise. His lips parted and, without holding back, he blurted out, "Mommy."
Cecily could hardly contain her excitement. She stepped forward to examine Rowan's injuries.
Seeing the bandaged wound on little Rowan's head, a sheen of tears coated Cecily's eyes.
"Rowan, you're Mommy's boy. Mommy doesn't have time to explain everything right now, but tell me, do you want to come with me? To leave this place, to leave the Fitzgerald family?"
The little guy was stunned, listening to Cecily finish, he mechanically nodded, "Yes."
"Good," Cecily's eyes were filled with a relieved smile, she embraced the little one and kissed his forehead, "Mommy's taking you away."
After saying that, Cecily quickly dressed Rowan and prepared to leave with him.
That's when Ophelia, carrying a thermos, walked in inappropriately.
Ophelia anticipated Darian would come to visit the child that evening. She hoped to display some sort of maternal devotion, but instead, she found Cecily attempting to take the child away.
"Cecily, what are you doing?" Ophelia spread her arms out to block Cecily, "Where are you taking Rowan?"
Cecily had no time to deal with her today. "Move."
"Why should I? You're trying to steal the child. You've got some nerve. I'm going to tell Darian."
"The kid agreed to go with me," Cecily retorted, "Once the child and I are safely away, I'll divorce Darian. That's the deal I made with Darian, so if you want to marry Darian quickly, step aside now."
Ophelia blinked hard twice, trying to process what Cecily had said, "What do you mean?"
"Can't you understand? Your biggest obstacle is about to leave, and your marriage to Darian is just around the corner. If you believe me, if you are considering your own future, if you are smart, then you'll listen to me. Now go and do whatever you can to stop Darian."
Ophelia's mind hiccupped. The sudden turn of events was hard for her to believe, but seeing the departure of the bodyguards from the doorway, which couldn't happen without Darian's permission, made her pause.
She grabbed Cecily's arm. "Is everything you're saying true?"
"Why would I lie to you?"
Ophelia bit her lip. "I'll trust you this once, Cecily. If you can really take the child and leave, then never come back. If you do, I won't let you off the hook."
