Chapter 610: Danger
Seeing Nathaniel stroll back, Lillian bolted up, grabbed his arm with both hands, and shot him a glare, demanding, "Where the hell did Aurelie go? Are you blind? Didn't you see her holding a knife to my neck? Why'd you just let her go? We're about to get hitched, and you're still helping her!"
Nathaniel's cold eyes locked onto Lillian, "Didn't I tell you not to mess with Aurelie? You brought this on yourself. Why are you whining here?"
"What? You feel sorry for that bitch Aurelie 'cause I hurt her?" Lillian's eyes flared with anger. "Well, let me tell you, I won't let Aurelie off. She won't get away with this."
"Stop messing with her or I won't let you off!" Nathaniel's face was stone-cold, his aura icy, and his gaze on Lillian was as warm as a glacier.
Lillian was fuming, "Try me!" She wasn't scared of him!
"What are you two doing? Don't argue on your wedding day. Do you still want to go through with this?" Laura, also fed up, came over to pull them apart.
"Mom, it's all his fault. Can't you see how he's treating me? Fine, I won't get married today." Lillian raised her hand and violently knocked over the stuff on the nearby table, followed by the sound of things crashing to the floor.
The dressing room was left in a total mess by Lillian.
Laura felt dizzy and could only try to calm Lillian down. "Alright, stop arguing. Chill out, both of you. Nathaniel, you go out first."
Brent walked in from outside, looking at the two with a grim expression. His gaze finally settled on Nathaniel, "Nathaniel, come out first."
Nathaniel said nothing and silently walked out.
Brent's brows furrowed deeply as he stared at Nathaniel seriously. "Since you agreed to marry Lillian, you should treat her better."
"What do you mean? Should I encourage her even when she's wrong?" The coldness in Nathaniel's eyes was evident.
Faced with Nathaniel's retort, Brent fell silent, the furrows in his brow deepening.
"Don't forget, it's just a deal between you and me. I do my part, and you do yours. How I treat her depends on her behavior."
Nathaniel wasn't a patient guy and couldn't stand Lillian constantly crossing his lines.
After speaking, Nathaniel left directly. Brent, holding back his anger, twitched the muscles on his face. Although he was pissed, he couldn't say much to Nathaniel today, as it was indeed Lillian who had caused the trouble.
Aurelie sat in the car, with four bodyguards Nathaniel had arranged for her. She sat in the back seat, looking out the window as the car drove smoothly. Just as they were about to reach the apartment, there was a sudden screech of brakes, and the car stopped abruptly without warning.
Aurelie's eyelids twitched, and a sense of unease washed over her.
"What happened?" She straightened up and looked forward.
The driving bodyguard restarted the car and answered Aurelie's question, "Nothing, a dog suddenly ran out."
Aurelie had been so tense lately that she was jumpy at any sudden movements.
The car started again and soon arrived at the apartment. Aurelie, exhausted, opened the door.
The housekeeper saw her return and walked out of the kitchen with an unnatural expression. "Miss Miller, you're back."
"Yeah, make me something to eat," Aurelie said to the housekeeper.
She hadn't even had breakfast when Lillian's goons snatched her in the morning. She was stuck in that dressing room for hours.
Having eaten nothing and tussled with Lillian, Aurelie was starving.
"Okay, I'll whip something up for you. Have some water first." The housekeeper poured a glass of water and placed it in front of Aurelie.
Aurelie took the glass and was about to sip when she noticed the housekeeper looking jittery.
She eyed the water in the glass and hesitated, not bringing it to her lips. She didn't know why, but she suddenly felt suspicious of the person in front of her.
This housekeeper was hired by Nathaniel to look after her. In the past few days, she'd been super attentive, with no signs of anything fishy.
But today, even though it wasn't hot, the housekeeper's forehead was slightly sweaty, and she looked extremely nervous.
Her hands were also shaking.
Seeing Aurelie put down the glass, the housekeeper got even more nervous, "Miss Miller, you've been out for so long. Aren't you thirsty?"
"I want some juice. Could you make some for me?" Aurelie said.
The housekeeper nodded, "Okay, I'll do that right away."
"Alright." Watching the housekeeper head into the kitchen, Aurelie quickly got up and walked towards the door. The next second, someone suddenly appeared behind her, covering her mouth and nose with a cloth.
Before blacking out, Aurelie's hand managed to open the door.
Standing at the door were the four bodyguards Nathaniel had sent to watch over her.
Seeing this, they immediately reacted, trying to rush in to save Aurelie. But at that moment, people who had been lying in wait around them attacked from behind. The bodyguards, focused on saving Aurelie, were caught off guard and knocked out.
Aurelie's eyelids grew heavy, and just before she lost consciousness, she saw the four bodyguards fall.
The attackers were highly skilled, not likely to be Lillian's people. Aurelie had come straight back to the apartment from the hotel, so Lillian's crew couldn't have gotten here and set up an ambush so quickly.
So who were they? The people from the casino? Probably!
Aurelie went limp as she lost consciousness. The housekeeper, terrified by the scene, cowered in the corner, trembling.
She had been forced by the intruders to drug the water, but she hadn't expected Aurelie to be so cautious and not drink it.
The person who had knocked Aurelie out glanced at the housekeeper, "Useless."
They had almost let Aurelie escape.
The kidnapper took out a phone, dialed a number, and reported, "We've got her. We're bringing her back now."
After hanging up, he carried Aurelie and quickly left.
Seeing the people leave the living room, the housekeeper scrambled to her feet and grabbed the phone. Her hands were shaking so much that she dialed the wrong number several times before successfully reaching Nathaniel.
At the wedding venue, the ceremony had already begun. Everyone was watching the couple on stage. Few were offering blessings; most were just there to witness the spectacle.
The Kensington family's outcast, who had been in prison for ten years, marrying the Lewis family's unwanted madwoman. How could it not be a joke?
