Chapter 500 How About Do a Paternity Test

The rain kept pouring down outside.

A phone rang, shattering his memories. Blaise took out his phone, glanced at it, and answered, putting it to his ear.

"Uncle Blaise." It was Rowan and Griffin's voices.

"What's wrong?"

"Do you know where Mommy went? Mommy isn't answering her phone, and neither is Grandma."

They didn't call Darian because Cecily said Darian had lost his memory. Cecily was afraid that Darian, in his amnesiac state, might say something to hurt Rowan and Griffin, so she told them to wait a while before contacting him.

Blaise's brow twitched as he glanced at the closed door of the operating room. He didn't tell the truth. "They're busy."

"Alright then, we'll call Mommy tonight. We still need to tell stories to the baby brother or sister in Mommy's belly."

Knowing that Cecily was going to give them a baby brother or sister, Rowan and Griffin were overjoyed and called every day to take turns telling stories to the baby.

Inside the operating room, the cold, sterile instruments blared with a harsh alarm.

The door swung open, and a nurse emerged, holding a critical condition notice that required family signatures.

With severe bleeding and a miscarriage, the situation was dire. Cecily had already gone into shock.

Darian stood there, his face ashen, signing each document with a shaky hand. He didn't dare waste a moment—every second mattered, every tick of the clock was crucial..

Blaise watched this scene, gripping his phone tightly. He had never felt that lying to children was such a difficult task. He bit his lip to hold back the sourness and said, "Okay," before hurriedly hanging up.

No one knew how long the surgery lasted or how many times the nurse went to get blood packs.

Finally, the door of the operating room opened, and the exhausted doctor came out. Seeing the anxious faces of the family gathered by the door, the doctor sighed heavily, a deep, resigned exhale.

Darian, staring at the doctor, felt like he had a lump of cotton stuck in his throat. He tried to speak, but no sound came out.

Vivienne stepped forward, her voice hoarse, "Doctor, how is my daughter?"

The doctor sighed. "I'm sorry, we've done our best."

Vivienne stood there stiffly, her eyes darkening.

Bryan's hand clenched tightly, gripping his palm hard.

It was as if something had taken over his mind. Bryan staggered forward, each step feeling like he was treading on cotton, his legs weak, almost collapsing to the ground.

He thought, 'Cecily is really gone? It is all my fault!'

Vivienne clutched the doctor's arm tightly. "No, it can't be. Doctor, please save her."

The doctor quickly supported the nearly collapsing Vivienne. "Ma'am, please listen to me. Miss Watson's child couldn't be saved. After four hours of resuscitation, we've done our best. The child is gone, but Miss Watson's life is temporarily saved, though her condition is not good."

Tears had almost soaked Vivienne's entire face. She tried to stay calm, her pale lips trembling as she asked, "Just tell me, can my daughter survive?"

Vivienne hadn't seen Cecily yet, but she could already imagine how badly Cecily was injured.

The doctor sighed and remained silent.

Vivienne's hand slipped from the doctor's arm; she understood.

The doctor bluntly stated, "Miss Watson's vital signs are being sustained by machines right now. What happens next is anyone's guess. Be prepared for the worst."

After saying this, the doctor shook his head and left.

When Cecily was first brought into the operating room, she had briefly regained consciousness.

She was too weak to speak clearly, but the doctor heard her plea—she was pregnant and begged the doctor to save her baby.

Sometimes, the doctor cursed his own limitations. With such severe injuries and massive blood loss, even an adult might not survive, let alone the fetus she carried. On top of that, she had only one kidney, and her health was already compromised. The fact that she had held on until the end of the surgery was a testament to her strength.

Darian, standing in the background, listened in silence. He felt a metallic, sweet taste rise in his throat, his whole body trembling from cold.

Cecily was moved to a room on the top floor. Darian saw her there, lying quietly in the bed surrounded by an array of machines. She lay still, without a sound.

The doctor's words were understood by everyone present.

Cecily was in a fragile state, her departure imminent.

Everyone knew it, but no one spoke it aloud.

Darian couldn't bear to hear those words.

He thought, 'My Cecily can't die—not like this. She will get better. She is just tired and needs time to recover.'

The culprit, Bryan, was completely ignored. No one paid attention to him. Vivienne, like a walking corpse, just sat by Cecily's bedside, accompanying her.

After a long time, Bryan remembered that Freya seemed to be missing.

When did she disappear?

He didn't know.

It wasn't until he inquired around the hospital that he found out Freya had also been brought to the hospital. However, her injuries were more severe than before, but not life-threatening. She had suffered some flesh wounds and lost some blood but wouldn't die.

Bryan went to see Freya in her ward and then sat outside, lost in thought.

For some reason, Vivienne's words, "Cecily is your biological daughter," kept replaying in his mind whenever he quieted down.

Sam had been looking for Bryan for a long time before finding the despondent Bryan in the bustling hospital corridor.

"Mr. Whitaker?"

Bryan seemed not to hear.

"Mr. Whitaker?"

Sam bent down and called Bryan again.

"What is it?" Bryan's tired and dejected voice asked.

"Are you alright?" Sam asked cautiously.

Bryan didn't answer, remaining silent for a long time. Suddenly, he chuckled, tears welling up in his eyes. He looked at Sam with lifeless eyes.

"Vivienne said Cecily is my biological daughter. Do you think this lie is ridiculous?" Bryan asked.

Sam was shocked by Bryan's words. However, having been with Bryan for so long, it was the first time he had seen Bryan so confused.

He had heard about Bryan and Vivienne's child from the past, a child Vivienne had terminated in secrecy during one of their roughest patches. After that, even though Bryan managed to bring Vivienne back, he never pressured her to have another child.

Sam thought, 'But since Vivienne says so, maybe she didn't have the abortion and just lied to him. What if Cecily really is Bryan's biological daughter?'

After much thought, Sam suggested, "Mr. Whitaker, if you're unsure, why not do a paternity test with Miss Watson?"

Sam knew Bryan was confused now. He believed that a paternity test could clear everything up, laying the facts bare.
