Chapter 128 Just Divorce!
Tabitha hurried to soothe her and then said to Sandra with a stern tone, "This must be Cecily's doing. Sandra, you can't let this woman stay by Jin's side any longer. It looks like Jin has lost his ability to think for himself."
"Are you suggesting that my son is foolish enough to be manipulated by a woman?" Sandra eyed Tabitha with an icy gaze.
Sandra would not tolerate anyone speaking poorly of her pride and joy.
Tabitha, realizing she had misspoken, quickly added, "Sandra, that's not what I meant at all. What I'm trying to say is Cecily is nothing but a sly fox, her intentions are particularly malicious. People like her should be avoided at all costs."
Sandra glanced at her dismissively before softening her expression. "Ophelia, tell me what happened last night."
Suddenly reminded of the previous night's events, Ophelia nervously clenched her dress, guilt-ridden as she recounted the story to Sandra.
Of course, she blamed everything on Elysia, not implicating herself and casting herself as a fellow victim of deception.
Sandra, however, wasn't easily fooled.
If it was as Ophelia claimed, that she'd done nothing, why would Darian's anger be directed at the Flores family?
Her story, coupled with Darian's actions, suggested that Darian was acting irrationally.
Sandra huffed, "You should also stop provoking Cecily. Why not be content and simply prepare to be the bride you're set to become?"
"You know Cecily holds a high place in Darian's heart, yet you insist on stirring trouble with her, making Darian angry. What are you trying to gain?"
"Aunt, it's not like that."
Ophelia was worrying aloud, "You've seen it for yourself, they haven't even got their divorce papers, and Cecily keeps clinging to Darian. She's even deliberately leaving the kids with him; I'm scared Darian will go back to her."
Sandra also felt a migraine coming on just thinking about it.
If she hadn't drugged Cecily back in the day, none of this would have happened. Maybe Cecily and Darian could have been living happily together by now, possibly with a little grandson for her. However, the situation now was a tangled mess.
And the issue was still gnawing away at Sandra.
Darian surely felt the same. Even if he didn't love Cecily at the time, he was bothered by the fact that Ophelia drugged her, which led to an accident. However, because he knew he was also at fault, he couldn't really take a stand.
"Enough, stop crying. All this sobbing is giving me a headache." She had thought Ophelia was sharp and sensible, but now she seemed more and more of a nuisance.
"Let's have someone check on Cecily's room. We'll go see her for ourselves."
A spark of excitement flashed in Ophelia's eyes as she nodded eagerly, "Okay."
...
Cecily's fever had subsided. After breakfast, she was set to be discharged, but Darian wanted her to stay for more observation. The doctor, possibly influenced by Darian's look, also insisted she shouldn't leave.
Cecily, still weak, decided to stay for the morning.
She borrowed a charger from a nurse to juice up her phone. As soon as it powered on, it began to ping with non-stop messages. Some were from her kids, some from her friend Blaise, and others from Aurelie. She hugged her phone, replying to each one by one.
When Aurelie found out Cecily had been hospitalized, she didn’t mince words and called straight away, "What happened to you? Why are you in the hospital? You didn't answer calls all night. I thought Darian had gone to your place again, dragging you into bed. I was about to call the police."
At the mention of Darian, Cecily felt something was off and fumbled to turn down the volume on her phone.
However, she didn't expect that the volume to go straight to the maximum.
Cecily's heartbeat spiked when she realized that Darian's gaze, heavy with a sense of oppression, was sweeping toward her. The thought of vanishing on the spot crossed her mind.
Aurelie really had no filter.
"Hello? Why so quiet? Haha, don't tell me Darian is right beside you."
Cecily, face in her hand, responded with resignation, "Congratulations, you guessed it."
A pregnant pause from Aurelie followed by the sound of the call disconnecting.
Cecily, speechless, waited for what would come.
Darian, previously engrossed in his phone, let his attention fall onto Cecily. "Drag you into bed?"
Cecily's smile twitched, "Uh, haha... Aurelie just loves to joke around. Don't be mind at her."
"I don't," he replied bluntly.
Cecily tried to shift topics, pulling at her lip corner awkwardly, "Anyway, about the money for the hospital stay and breakfast. I'll transfer it. How much?"
"No need," Darian mumbled, returning to his screen.
However, soon after, his account notification buzzed with a new transaction.
Ten thousand dollars.
Darian's face turned stormy—Cecily sure didn't waste time.
Knowing the VIP hospital room and the famous breakfast from Silver Frost Capital's top breakfast spot didn't come cheap, and without a clear price from Darian, Cecily sent ten thousand, figuring it would cover the costs.
"We're still legally married. You don't need to draw such clear lines," he said.
"Fair's fair, even close siblings keep things clear," she replied.
Setting her phone down, Cecily pondered a bit on the subject of legal ties. "Darian, let's find a time to get the divorce papers, shall we?"
Hanging onto a marriage in name only still didn't sit well with her.
Previously, she had declared her intent to take half of his assets in a divorce out of spite towards Ophelia.
But Cecily wasn't greedy nor did she harbor any illusions about such a settlement. Self-sufficient through her own earnings, she had no desire to cling to his wealth.
Darian's voice chilled considerably, "Why bring this up out of nowhere?"
"It can't be left unresolved forever."
"So, you're that eager to divorce me?" Darian's frown deepened, his tone laden with discontent.
"Okay, don't worry, I won't cling to you, nor will I take away most of your wealth, just give me the billion you agreed to in the previous contract," Cecily said, thinking that after three years by his side and even donating a kidney, asking for the promised billion wasn't unreasonable.
Darian remained silent.
Cecily sensed he might be regretting his promise and didn't want to give her the money.
"If you don't want to provide it, that's fine too. I'm not greedy or in need. Just treat Rowan well, that should be okay, right?" she ventured.
Darian actually wished she was greedy. However, the woman was not only not greedy, she was also carefree.
Her mind was filled with nothing but her child.
Fine!
He'd rather not see her at all.
'Just get the divorce over with quickly.'
'Whoever doesn't want to divorce is a fool.'
Darian stood still, feeling like he should say or do something at this moment.
He clenched his back teeth tightly.
What should one do if one wanted get a divorce?
Went to the city hall...
But...
Why should he? Just because she said so he was obliged to agree?
'How naïve.'
