Chapter 37

Cecily glanced down indifferently at her former mother-in-law. "If you want to settle accounts, we can go over the security footage together."

Upon hearing this, Ophelia felt a shiver run down her spine, sensing Darian’s icy gaze. She knew that bringing up this matter wouldn't be in her favor. Tugging at her lip, she quickly redirected the conversation.

"Auntie, let's not dwell on that; it's all in the past. I don't blame Miss Cecily."

Sandra sighed reluctantly. "You're just too kind, always letting people take advantage of you."

Ophelia gave a bitter smile.

Sandra's eyes flickered with increased chill as she glanced over Cecily’s attire.

"Cecily, you really are amusing. Whatever Ophelia likes, you seem to like too, huh?"

"In the past, Ophelia and Darian made the perfect pair, yet because of your infatuation with Darian, you wedged yourself between them and became his wife."

"And now this dress; Ophelia takes a liking to it and surprise, surprise, you're keen on it too. Do you enjoy competing with Ophelia?"

Sandra's voice was stern and cold, her words laced with biting sarcasm.

Sandra's distorted truths left Cecily and Aurelie incredulous.

"Auntie, you hurt your leg, not your head, right? What exactly have I taken from her?" Cecily retorted, her voice icy and exasperated.
Sandra's eyes flickered with contempt. "Haven't you always been snatching things from Ophelia? If you're not after what she has, then why return to Silver Frost Capital?"

"Don't think I don't know what you're plotting. You just want to get back with my son, don't you?" Sandra thought.

Sandra thought she could see right through the schemes women like her created. Sandra loathed her kind. Women who rested on their looks, thinking they could ensnare anyone.

"I'm warning you, Cecily, don't even dream of getting close to my son again. I would rather die than let you continue to be with him."

Cecily let out an exasperated chuckle and retorted coldly, "You're flattering yourself. First off, I'd like you to get your facts straight. When I was with your son, Ophelia had already broken off their engagement and fled the country when she thought your son was going to be a vegetable. There was no ‘stepping in’ on my part."

"Secondly, my marriage to your son was promised by your family. There was no question of me taking anything away from her."

"Thirdly, who does Darian think he is? Do you really think I would stoop to competing for him out of jealousy? He's a treasure only in your eyes."

"Fourth, you were my mother-in-law, and as such, I respected and valued you. But now that we have no relation, I'd kindly ask you to stop commanding me with that holier-than-thou attitude. What gives you the right?"

After Cecily finished, the faces of the three in front of her darkened quickly.

Darian's icy gaze fixed unyieldingly on Cecily's face, and a tremendous displeasure flashed in his eyes.

Sandra bit her teeth in fury. "Cecily, is this your idea of manners? How did your parents raise you?"

"Lack of manners? And just how exemplary is your own upbringing?" Cecily shot back.

She watched as the three of them trembled with rage.

Aurelie, watching this, wished she could raise a flag and cheer on Cecily.

Cecily was just too cool.

From now on, she would be her sole idol.

Now that the past was brought up, Ophelia loudly cut Cecily off, “Miss Cecily, please stop spreading nonsense here. Aunt Sandra, let’s not stoop to her level. Let’s leave.”

Ophelia was desperate to get away.

But Sandra was not used to being slighted, “You were once my daughter-in-law, and that’s the biggest disgrace of my life.”

"Mutual feelings," Cecily said with a cold smile.

After speaking, Cecily had no desire to linger there; Griffin was waiting for her outside, and she yearned to leave as quickly as possible.

"Wait a second, grab one of those dresses for my future daughter-in-law, too. If she has it, our Ophelia must have it as well."

Ophelia, too, wanted to leave promptly and, following Sandra's lead, turned to the sales clerk and said, "Could you get me a size small, please?"

"Darian, you take care of the bill." Today, it seemed Sandra was intent on bolstering Ophelia.

Gratitude flashed in Ophelia's eyes as she looked toward Sandra.

However, the clerk apologetically said, "I'm terribly sorry, folks, but we only carry this dress in one size per style, and the small is already being worn by this young lady here."

Sandra's face turned icy in an instant, "If she's not buying it, then she needs to take it off and let Ophelia have it quickly."

Ophelia glanced at Darian. She was quite fond of the dress, and now she was curious to see whom Darian would support between herself and Cecily.

Approaching Cecily, she said, "Miss Cecily, are you planning to buy that dress? I really like it, and if you're not interested, would you mind letting me have it? I'm willing to exchange it for another dress in the store, and you can choose any you like."

Ophelia looked at her with a hint of challenge in her eyes.

Cecily's lips curled into a mocking smile, "No, that's not possible."

"See, you’re already competing with Ophelia. Cecily, don't you find what you said earlier a bit contradictory?" Sandra snapped.

Just then, a clerk approached with a slip in hand, "Excuse me, everyone, this lady has already purchased the dress with her card."

Turning in surprise, Cecily saw Aurelie leaning casually nearby, idly playing with a card in her hand, then flashing Cecily a conspiratorial smile.

Cecily returned the smile and faced the others, "I was the one who found it first, wore it first, and now I've paid for it. So, who's really taking anything from whom?"

"Hmph!" Sandra scoffed coldly, "Cecily, this is truly the first time I've come across someone like you."

Cecily brushed past them without another word, tugging Aurelie towards the exit.

But Sandra gripped her arm tightly. "Hold it right there."

Cecily kept walking, causing Sandra to stagger and pitch forward.

"Ah!"

"Auntie!" Ophelia's voice spiked with alarm as she rushed to Sandra's aid. "Are you okay?"

Darian's face turned to stone as he bent to help Sandra back into her wheelchair.

Sandra moaned in pain.

A frown creased Cecily's brow.

A glacial chill settled in Darian's eyes. "Cecily! You've gone too far!"

Her eyelashes quivered as a wave of mockery surged in her heart, "Are you blind?"
