Chapter 451 Like You

"So, is she?"

The room went dead silent.

Bryan stared at Vivienne, not wanting to miss a thing.

No one knew how nervous he was.

No one knew what Vivienne was feeling either.

The quiet was suffocating.

Vivienne didn't look away from Bryan's intense gaze.

After what felt like forever, she finally spoke.

"She isn't."

Her voice was ice-cold, her face unreadable.

Vivienne was ruthless. If she didn't want Bryan to know, she'd never tell him. She wanted him to pay for his past mistakes and never know he had a daughter.

Bryan's heart sank at her words, disappointment flashing in his eyes.

He could feel her hatred. How could someone who hated him so much bear his child?

"Alright, I get it," Bryan said, almost spitefully. "Jennifer is dead, Freya has no family. From now on, she's my only daughter. She'll inherit the Whitaker Group."

He watched Vivienne, waiting for a reaction.

They were married, and the company was theirs. If she cared at all, she wouldn't let him do this.

But she didn't.

"Do whatever you want. It's your property."

Vivienne didn't care.

She turned and left without a second glance.

As she walked away, she saw Darian standing there. She didn't know when he had arrived.

Darian wasn't acting awkward even though he had overheard. There wasn't much space; it was hard not to.

Vivienne was in a bad mood and didn't want to talk to him.

But as she passed him, Darian said, "Maybe you should think about Cecily's feelings too."

Vivienne glanced at him. "Cecily doesn't need to think about him."

"You've never asked her. That's just what you think."

Vivienne ignored him and walked away.

Bryan didn't stick around either. He went straight into the ward.

Inside, Freya looked pale, and her chest wound was bleeding again.

Bryan saw her lying there helplessly. He couldn't ignore her.

He walked over.

Freya, seeing him, looked up with tear-filled eyes and called out, "Dad."

Bryan bent down to help her up. "Are you okay?"

Freya bit her lip, swallowed her pain, and shook her head.

Bryan frowned at the doctor nearby. "Can't you see she's bleeding?"

The doctor quickly stepped forward.

Freya was helped back onto the bed. She whispered, "Dad, I'm sorry I disappointed you."

"Don't say that." Bryan wiped her tears.

Cecily watched, her heart likely numb, showing no emotion. She turned to leave.

As she did, she bumped into a broad chest.

Startled, Darian wrapped an arm around her waist. She looked up and met his deep gaze.

"All settled?"

Cecily nodded. "All settled."

"Let's go. It's uncomfortable to stay here."

Cecily blinked and smiled a bit. "Alright."

When the reporters saw that Freya was off-limits, they quickly followed Cecily.

"Miss Watson, can we ask a few more questions?"

Cecily and Darian stopped. Cecily looked at the reporters. "I've said everything. You know the situation. There's nothing more to say."

With that, Cecily and Darian left quickly.

"The evidence you had Larkin send was timely, thanks," Cecily said, knowing Darian had arranged it.

"Is there a reward?" Darian asked.

Cecily blinked. "What do you want?"

"Let me get discharged early."

Cecily was speechless. "How is that a reward? If you want to leave, just go."

"And have you scold me again?" Since Cecily had scolded him last time, Darian didn't dare leave without permission.

Darian would've left the hospital ages ago before. Who'd dare stop him?

But now, someone cared about him, looked after him, and got mad at him. He didn't dare act recklessly. In fact, he kind of liked it.

"When did I ever scold you? You're making me sound so fierce."

Darian nodded.

Cecily was annoyed; she thought she was pretty gentle.

"It's okay, I like you no matter what."

The sudden sweet talk made Cecily pause. She turned to face Darian. "What did you just say?"

Darian smirked. "You must be a little deaf."

Cecily rolled her eyes. "You're destined to grow old alone."

She brushed off his hand and started to leave.

Darian pulled her back. "Why are you mad over a few words?"

Cecily turned her head away, pretending to be angry. "I'm deaf, don't talk to me, I can't hear you."

"I said, I like you no matter what."

Cecily's heart fluttered, but she rolled her eyes. "Sorry, can't hear you."

Darian chuckled.

"My bad, I won't tease you anymore. I'm deaf, my whole family is deaf."

Cecily glared at him. "It's fine if you're deaf, but don't drag our son into it."

She brushed off his hand again and walked into the ward. When she didn't see Rowan and Griffin, her heart tightened. "Where are Rowan and Griffin?"

Darian quickly followed, grabbing her wrist. "Your mom took them home."

Seeing Darian's dominant approach, Cecily wanted to escape, but it was too late.

The door closed.

Darian pinned her against the door, his strong arms creating a small space.

"My bad, I apologize. I just said I like you, did you hear me?"

Cecily looked at his serious expression, bit her lip to suppress a smile, and turned her face away. "Can't hear you."

Darian wasn't annoyed. "Alright, you can't hear me? Then I'll have to do something to make you understand."

He moved closer, his breath fresh and pleasant. Cecily's heart raced, and she quickly covered his lips with her hand. "Who said you could kiss me?"

Darian paused. "Alright, I won't kiss you then."

He waited for Cecily to let her guard down, then pulled her hand away.

Then, he kissed her softly, not forcefully but gently.

Cecily was stunned. Her heart raced.

When she was out of breath, Darian stopped, looking at her with deep eyes.

"Can you hear me now? If not, we'll continue until you do."

Cecily muttered, "How shameless."

"Seems like you heard me."

Cecily's face turned serious. "Weren't you unsure about your feelings for me a few days ago? Now you're saying you like me. Isn't that a bit too casual?"

Darian grabbed her hand and placed it over his heart.

It was racing.

"I'm sincere, not casual at all."

That night, no one knew how anxious he was as he rushed to her side when she was in in danger. When he saw that stick about to hit her, he didn't care about anything else. The only thought in his mind was that Cecily couldn't be harmed.

Darian's gaze locked on Cecily's face, his expression anxious. "You don't believe me?"

Cecily smiled sweetly and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"I believe you, I never said I didn't."

Darian pressed closer, and Cecily pushed against his chest. "Darian, you're still injured. You need to rest. I understand what you said. I'll go home now."

Darian smiled and didn't let go. "I'll go with you."

"No."

"I don't want to stay in the hospital. I'll come back tomorrow. You're a doctor. Nothing will happen with you around."

Cecily smiled helplessly. "You forgot I have to go to my mom's place. But she'll probably send you back."

Darian nodded and sighed. "After tonight, she'll probably have an even worse opinion of me."

"What did you do?" Cecily asked curiously.

"Nothing much. I overheard your mom arguing with Bryan about you, and I was the one who told Bryan that you're his biological daughter. Your mom can guess that."

Darian could feel Vivienne's glare wanting to hit him at that moment.

Cecily pursed her lips. "That's it? It's fine. My mom knows you did it for me. She's reasonable and won't blame you, but there's no need to mention it next time."

Cecily's eyes dimmed as she said that.
