Chapter 284 Just Waiting for the Show

As Eliza was on her way to the hall, she ran into Evan and Caleb. Caleb, who didn't like the niece in front of him, sneered and said, "My dear niece, you are really ruthless. You even dare to poison. It's a pity that you almost killed your own sister. Are you happy about that?"

Eliza suppressed her anger and replied, "Uncle Caleb, what are you talking about? I don't understand. What poison? What does it have to do with me?"

Caleb chuckled. "Don't pretend. Although there is no concrete evidence for tonight's play, we all know it in our hearts. If it wasn't you who poisoned, then who else could it be?"

Eliza clenched her fists and said, "You said there is no evidence, so stop jumping to conclusions."

After speaking angrily, Eliza was about to leave. But after taking a few steps, she stopped and looked back at the two of them. "You guys are determined to oppose me. But be careful that the person you find has ulterior motives. Once she is out of your control, the entire Bennett family will fall into her hands."

Caleb calmly replied, "You should worry more about yourself."

Eliza snorted and walked away. Caleb crossed his arms and shook his head while looking at Eliza's retreating figure. "I wonder who she inherited this vicious nature from. Vivienne has always been upright and honest, unlike her."

Evan, with narrowed eyes, calmly said, "Perhaps she inherited it from Raphael."

"Raphael?" Caleb's smile grew even wider. "I really don't know what Vivienne saw in Raphael back then. Apart from his good looks, he is utterly useless. She is really unlucky to have married him. Her judgment of people is truly terrible."

As soon as he finished speaking, footsteps approached from behind, and the person they were talking about happened to pass by.

Raphael locked eyes with Caleb. Seeing Raphael, Caleb didn't feel embarrassed. Instead, he smiled and said, "Oh, look who it is. Didn't go see your daughter in the hospital?"

Evan glanced at his sarcastic brother but didn't intervene. Raphael's face turned dark. He knew that the brothers of the Bennett family didn't like him.

He currently lived with the Bennett family and couldn't afford to conflict with them, so he just left with a grim expression. Caleb smirked and said, "Coward."

"Where can a freeloader find the courage? Enough with the insults," Evan said, patting Caleb's shoulder before walking ahead.

Caleb shrugged. "You're no better with your words."

As they descended the stairs, several servants were carefully carrying a large package of exquisitely wrapped items towards Eliza's room.

Caleb raised an eyebrow. "What's this?"

One of the servants replied, "These are the dresses that Miss Eliza will wear tomorrow. They were just delivered."

Caleb glanced at the large bundle. "I heard her dresses are all handcrafted by Master Brady?"

"That's correct."

Caleb nodded. "Then send them to Mrs.Watson at the hotel."

The servant hesitated for a moment. "This?"

Caleb said, "Consider it a gift of apology for what Eliza did to her."

The servant was in a dilemma. "But how should I explain this to Miss Eliza?"

"Just hang a fake one in her room. It's that simple." Caleb waved his hand. "Go on."

Evan listened to Caleb's instructions and turned to look at him. "By doing this, you might cause trouble at the banquet."

Caleb's face lit up with excitement. "That's exactly the kind of effect I want. Otherwise, it would be too boring."

"But don't go too far. It would be a huge loss of face."

"Don't worry, Evan. It's not us losing face. Let them argue with each other. We'll just sit back and enjoy the show."

Darian took Cecily back to the hotel, still feeling uneasy about what happened in the garden. If Cecily had drunk that cup of coffee, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Cecily looked at Darian, who still had a troubled expression, and raised her hand to gently shake it in front of him. "What are you thinking?"

Darian turned to look at Cecily, took her hand, and held it in his palm. In a deep and magnetic voice, he said, "I feel afraid."

Cecily blinked, understanding his meaning. She felt the same fear. "It's alright. I didn't drink the coffee, remember?"

Darian let out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness."

Cecily nodded, truly grateful. If she had consumed the coffee, the consequences would have been dire. This incident made her more cautious about what she ate or drank. Eliza was skilled in using poison, and there might be more attempts in the future.

When they arrived at the hotel, Cecily noticed Darian's intention to stay in the same room. She hesitated for a moment and looked at Darian. "Aren't you going back to your own room?"

"I am."

Cecily pointed at the room. "Are you planning to share a room with me?"

Darian looked at Cecily's expression and raised an eyebrow. "Why not?"

Cecily's face stiffened. "There are other rooms available. Why do you want to share a room with me? Larkin, please help Darian book another room."

"Well..." Larkin hesitated for a moment, feeling Darian's cold glance.

Larkin was quick-witted and immediately said, "I'm sorry, Mrs.Watson. It's late, and all the rooms are fully booked. This is the only one available."

"Is this the only room in such a big hotel?" Cecily looked at Larkin with a skeptical expression.

Feeling Darian's gaze on him again, Larkin quickly said, "Yes, Mrs.Watson. Unfortunately, this is the only room left. You and Darian will have to make do for the night. If you need anything, please let me know."

After finishing his words, Larkin sensibly ran off.

Cecily forced a helpless smile. In the next moment, she was suddenly lifted off the ground. Cecily was startled and instinctively wrapped her arms around Darian's neck.

Darian carried Cecily into the room and closed the door behind them. Cecily felt a sense of nervousness. "What?"

She was placed on the sofa, and Darian's gaze met hers. "There are no more rooms. Will you accommodate me for the night?"

In fact, it didn't feel right to say that Cecily was accommodating him, as he had booked and paid for the hotel.

Darian stood up straight, casually took off his coat, and loosened his tie a bit. His gaze, however, was far from casual.

"Do you wanna take a shower first?" Darian asked with a gentle voice.

Cecily was momentarily lost in thought. "Huh?" She blinked. "What did you say?"

Seeing her spaced out like that, Darian let out a soft chuckle. "How about a shower?"

Cecily turned her head away. "Uh, sure."

Darian's long fingers kept undoing the buttons on his shirt at a leisurely pace. Cecily couldn't bear to stay any longer and quickly stood up, darting towards the bathroom.

Standing there, Cecily looked into the mirror, took a deep breath, and touched her cheek, which was uncontrollably warm.

She shook her head, trying not to think about what had just happened.

Since she was staying for two days, Cecily had brought a change of clothes. She took them out and entered the bathroom again.

Darian leaned on the couch, watching Cecily hurrying in and out, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes before he picked up a document to read.

The hotel's bathroom had a frosted door. Darian, holding the document, tried his best to ignore the blurry figure inside.

He focused on the document, but it took him about fifteen minutes to read only two lines...
