Chapter 409 Isn't it inappropriate to lay hands on your own woman?
Seeing that Cecily didn't relent, Freya continued to plead bitterly. "Cecily, please forgive me. I really know I was wrong. You can hit me or scold me. I won't dare to do it again."
Freya cried pitifully, but it didn't earn a shred of sympathy from Cecily.
"If I drugged you, set you up to be raped, and then apologized afterward, would you forgive me?"
Cecily looked at Freya, but the question was directed at Bryan.
Freya sobbed. "But... but Cecily, you're okay, right? There's still room for us to make amends. Can't you forgive me just this once?"
"I'm okay because I was lucky. That doesn't mean you didn't do it."
Cecily's voice was cold.
Bryan's face looked grim.
He knew Freya was at fault, but he still couldn't bear to see her get hurt.
"Cecily, to err is human. If you have any demands, just let me know. As long as it's within my power, I'll do it. Just please, let Freya go this time."
"You're protecting her so much, even though she's the one who did wrong?" Cecily asked calmly.
Bryan glanced at the pitifully crying Freya, the child he had raised with love. "Freya is my daughter. Of course, I have to protect her."
Cecily looked at Bryan, feeling a tightness in her chest for some reason.
She murmured, "But she's just your adopted daughter."
"So what? I've treated her as my own. You don't need to say more. As long as I'm here, you can't touch her. If you have any demands, just say them."
Hearing Bryan's protection, Freya felt much more at ease. Hiding behind Bryan, she gratefully called out, "Dad."
Cecily watched the deep bond between father and daughter, and for some reason, it just made her feel uncomfortable.
Freya bit her lip hard, wiped away her tears, and said, "Dad, thank you for protecting me, but I know I did wrong this time. I will find my own way to make Cecily forgive me."
With that, Freya turned and ran away.
Bryan looked worriedly at Freya's back, and at that moment, Vivienne walked out from inside.
"What are you all doing outside?"
"Mom."
Vivienne glanced at Bryan, her expression cold. Her gaze lingered on him for just a moment before she looked away.
Bryan thought of Wade, whom he had just seen, and felt a weight on his chest.
Vivienne looked at Cecily and Darian, and then she said, "You two go inside first. I have something to say to him."
"Mom."
"Go inside. I'm fine."
When Vivienne looked at Bryan, her brows furrowed slightly, and her eyes were filled with cold emotions. To Bryan, it seemed she must utterly despise him.
That look pierced Bryan deeply.
"Why did Wade come to see you? Don't you have anything to say about that?"
"What should I say? Do I not even have the freedom to see my friend anymore?"
"Vivienne, it's been almost thirty years, and you still can't forget him?"
Vivienne pressed her lips together and looked up at Bryan. "Yes, I can't forget. When you forcibly separated us back then, you should have known that someone else would always live in my heart, and that person would never be you."
Bryan clenched his fists, and a surge of indescribable anger welled up inside him as he listened to Vivienne.
"Even if I was wrong back then, I've been trying my best to make it up to you all these years."
"Really?" Vivienne shook her head with a bitter smile and said, "Bryan, that's just what you think is making it up."
He had treated her well, and she didn't deny that.
But he had also treated Jennifer and Freya well.
Vivienne pressed her lips together and looked away. "I agreed not to divorce. But you have to go back to Riverview, and take Jennifer and Freya with you."
"You really don't want to see me that much?"
"I don't want Cecily to get hurt. Are you blind? Can't you see that Freya likes Cecily's husband? Isn't it enough that you put Jennifer between us, and now you want to put Freya next to Cecily too?"
Bryan looked at Vivienne, feeling that she was sending him back just to rekindle her old flame with Wade.
The thought made Bryan's anger almost uncontrollable.
"Sending me away and staying here yourself, is it really just for Cecily? If I leave, you can rekindle your old flame with Wade, right?"
Vivienne immediately frowned, her cold gaze meeting Bryan's.
Instantly, the coldness spread.
Vivienne's eyes were full of sarcasm.
If she didn't know that angering Bryan wouldn't do her any good, she would have certainly lost control and said something hurtful.
It was truly ironic that their marriage had come to this after so many years.
Vivienne looked away, not wanting to see him. "It's impossible to communicate with you."
Bryan stepped closer to her. "Can't communicate with me, but you can communicate happily with Wade, right?"
Vivienne took two steps back, but Bryan grabbed her arm and pulled her back.
Vivienne was completely enraged. "Bryan, are you getting more paranoid as you get older?"
Bryan's eyes were full of anger. "You tried to escape from me time and again before, just to be with him. So is this desire for divorce also related to him? Have you two been in contact all along?"
"Let go."
"Answer me."
"I said let go of me!"
Vivienne couldn't break free from his grip, so she gave up. She looked up, her face full of anger as she stared at Bryan.
"Yes, that's right."
Bryan squinted his eyes tightly.
"Did you hear what you wanted to hear? Are you satisfied now?" Vivienne was agitated by Bryan.
"Mom!" Cecily quickly ran out from inside. "Let go of my mom."
"Get out of the way." Bryan pushed Cecily aside.
Darian, seeing this, strode forward and punched Bryan. Bryan dodged, naturally letting go of Vivienne's arm.
"Mom, are you okay?" Cecily looked worriedly at Vivienne's pale face.
Vivienne shook her head and answered, "I'm fine."
Darian's cold eyes looked at Bryan. "Isn't it inappropriate to lay hands on your own wife?"
Cecily frowned and glared at Bryan. "Bryan, you even laid hands on my mom!"
Darian pulled the angry Cecily back. "Calm down."
Vivienne rubbed her arm and said, "Cecily, I'm fine."
Bryan looked at Vivienne's pale face and regretted his impulsiveness.
"Vivienne."
At that moment, Bryan's phone rang urgently. He frowned and answered the call irritably.
As soon as he answered, he heard Jennifer's painful cry for help.
