Chapter 449 The Murderer
Freya was speechless.
Everyone's sympathetic looks faded.
Freya still couldn't believe Jennifer would jump off a building.
"I don't believe it, Cecily. You can't convince me you're not the murderer. My mom would have never killed herself."
Freya lunged at Cecily, gripping her arms tightly, her eyes bloodshot.
"Cecily, I don't care if I have evidence or not. You can't escape. You killed my mom. I'll find proof eventually!"
"No matter how long you search, Miss Watson is innocent," a voice said as Larkin walked in.
Cecily looked surprised. "Why are you here?"
"Miss Watson, the boss sent me," Larkin said, holding up a flash drive. "Miss Cruz keeps accusing Miss Watson of killing Ms. Murphy. I have evidence proving she couldn't have done it."
Freya rushed over. "What is it this time?"
Larkin dodged her, plugged the flash into a laptop, and played a video.
"This is the hospital corridor footage from that night," Larkin explained. "Ms. Murphy entered the elevator at 10:12 PM and went to the rooftop. Miss Watson had been with Mr. Fitzgerald until 10:30 PM. When she came downstairs at 10:33 PM, she saw Ms. Murphy falling. Miss Watson couldn't have done it."
People around nodded in agreement.
But Freya shouted, "Cecily didn't have to do it herself. She could've sent someone. She could definitely do that."
Larkin seemed to have expected her reaction and ready for this.
"But Miss Cruz, Miss Watson had no contact with Ms. Murphy before she jumped. How could she know Ms. Murphy would go to the rooftop and arrange for someone to harm her? Is Miss Watson a mind reader?"
Freya yelled, "Who knows if you had someone watching my mom?"
"Your mom isn't gold or jewels. We don't need to watch her."
Larkin was exasperated. The evidence was clear, yet Freya kept questioning.
"Alright, since you say that, did anyone see Ms. Murphy being forced to the rooftop? No one did."
People around started chattering.
"Yeah, in the video, Jennifer went to the rooftop alone. No one forced her."
"We missed that detail. It's late and cold. Jennifer wouldn't go up there just for fresh air."
"She must've been in a bad state of mind and wanted to jump."
"Yeah, I think so, too."
Cecily looked at Freya, who kept denying it.
Freya was adamant. "My mom wouldn't have killed herself. You must've forced her, Cecily. What did you do to push her to this?"
"Forced her?" Cecily grabbed Freya's hand. "Freya, it was your actions that had driven her to this."
Just then, Larkin took a call and stepped out. When he returned, he brought several doctors and nurses.
Larkin approached Cecily. "Miss Watson, these are Miss Cruz's doctors. They have something to say."
Cecily nodded.
Larkin signaled the doctors to step forward, and the reporters' cameras zoomed in.
One of Freya's doctors spoke up. "I'm Miss Cruz's attending doctor. Last night, we were about to change her IV when Ms. Murphy rushed in, claiming we were trying to kill her daughter. She seemed out of her mind.
She wanted to transfer hospitals, but we refused because Miss Cruz's condition wasn't suitable.
Ms. Murphy kept muttering things like 'can't escape' and 'can't hide.'
She even asked Mr. Whitaker to take care of Miss Cruz."
The doctor detailed the strange events from the previous night.
The doctor's words suggested Jennifer wanted to commit suicide.
The live stream comments were buzzing.
[So Jennifer wanted to jump. What does 'can't escape' and 'can't hide' mean?]
[Yeah, what was she trying to escape from? I'm curious.]
[Could Jennifer have had a mental illness? She probably jumped herself. Why all these conspiracy theories?]
[Maybe she felt trapped because they did something bad and got caught, so she chose to end it all.]
[Makes sense.]
"Even if that's true, you forced her. You pushed my mom to her death." Freya pointed at Cecily, screaming hysterically, her voice hoarse and grating.
"Cecily, you're heartless. You forced my mom to her death, thinking no one would find out and you wouldn't have to pay."
Larkin whispered something to Cecily.
Cecily nodded. "Play it."
