Chapter 518 Playing the Victim Again
Cecily glanced in Blaise's direction.
Alright, to take someone away without a trace, not even caught on surveillance, it seemed only Blaise could pull that off.
Blaise raised an eyebrow. "You’re welcome."
Cecily said, "How did you manage to get them out without anyone noticing?"
"Climbed through the window."
"Climbed through the window?" Cecily was confused.
"The Bennett family is swarming with people inside and out. Going in means going through all sorts of checks and confirmations, with tons of rules. Climbing through the window is way more convenient,” Blaise replied.
Blaise was agile, so it might indeed be faster for him. But it must have scared the others. The Bennett family must very confused about how the two kids disappeared into thin air.
Cecily sighed lightly and looked at Rowan and Griffin. "Next time you two go out, make sure to tell your aunts and uncles, okay? They're all looking for you and are almost going crazy with worry."
Griffin waved his chubby little hand and quickly explained, "Mommy, we left a note at home. We planned to have Uncle Blaise bring us to see you and then go back. But you weren't in the ward. So it took a bit longer."
Cecily patted Rowan and Griffin's heads. "Alright, but next time, at least tell them in person and make sure they know where you're going, or they'll worry."
"Got it, Mommy," Griffin agreed the quickest.
Cecily didn't really believe Griffin's words, knowing he'd forget next time.
If this happened a few more times, Cecily figured she'd be scared into a nervous breakdown.
"But we messaged Daddy. Didn't he tell you?" Rowan blinked his big eyes and looked at Darian standing behind Cecily.
Cecily turned to look at Darian, who remained silent. "You knew too?"
Darian raised an eyebrow slightly. "I just saw the message a few minutes ago, just found out."
Cecily took a deep breath and looked at them helplessly.
Well, though the process was a bit scary, it was a nice little surprise for her. Cecily gratefully looked at Blaise. "Thank you for bringing them over."
"You're injured. Why aren't you staying in the hospital?" Blaise glanced at Cecily's slightly red eyes.
Cecily lightly pressed her lips. "To make myself give up."
Blaise chuckled coolly. "I didn't expect you to be into self-torture."
A complex look flashed in Cecily's eyes, and she smiled, "It's better to give up all at once than to keep it bottled up inside."
"So, have you let it go now?" Blaise asked.
Cecily pressed her lips together and didn't answer immediately.
Let it go?
Not really. Every time she thought of the day she was kidnapped, her heart ached, and she felt suffocated.
How could she let it go? Her child would never come back.
"Mommy, you have us, Daddy, Uncle Blaise, Aunt Aurelie, and Grandma. We'll always be with you."
Rowan and Griffin hugged Cecily tightly. Looking at her sensible and adorable children, Cecily felt a bit healed inside.
At this moment, Vivienne was sitting in her study, facing a lawyer in a suit. The lawyer had drafted a will according to Vivienne's instructions for her to review.
Vivienne looked it over and nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, this will do."
"Ms. Bennett, actually, this will..." The lawyer hesitated. He had seen many elderly people draft wills in advance, fearing unforeseen events due to their age. But it was rare for someone as young as Vivienne to do so.
Vivienne looked no older than her forties.
"You think it's too early for me to draft a will, don't you?" Vivienne smiled bitterly, looking at a pot of dead plants beside her, and said softly, "It's not early. I'm dying. The doctor said I have about three months left. I need to prepare these things in advance. I owe my daughter too much. I don't want her to worry about the estate after I die."
The lawyer's lips trembled, and she didn’t expect someone to speak of life and death so lightly.
When Vivienne said these words, her eyes were devoid of any emotion.
She didn't seem afraid of death at all.
But how could someone not fear death?
Maybe her heart was already dead.
The lawyer parted his lips, he couldn't utter a word.
"You are my attorney, so I'm counting on you for this."
The lawyer looked at Vivienne and took a deep breath. "Alright, you can count on me. Then, Ms. Bennett, I'll take my leave."
"Okay."
After the lawyer leaving, Desmond quickly came in. "Ms. Bennett, the family just called to say Rowan and Griffin are missing."
Vivienne nodded. "I know. Blaise took them to see Cecily. Cecily messaged me. Don't worry."
Desmond was relieved. "Also, you had Gary go to Bryan's place a few days ago to find useful DNA samples. They've been found and sent for testing with Miss Bennett's. The results will be out tomorrow."
"Alright, I got it. Once the results are out, send them directly to Bryan."
"Understood."
Vivienne stood up and wrapped her shawl around her shoulders. It was almost summer, but her body still felt chilly, without a trace of warmth.
She sighed lightly, looking out the window. She had to resolve these matters one by one before she died.
"One more thing, about an hour ago, Mr. Whitaker tried to send Freya back to Riverview, but Miss Bennett and Mr. Fitzgerald found out," Desmond said.
Vivienne was no longer surprised by such news.
Bryan was willing to exchange Cecily to save Freya. What else wouldn't he do?
After thinking for a moment, Vivienne said, "Prepare the test report and bring it to me. I'll hand it to him personally."
Without asking why, Desmond simply said, "Alright."
At the hospital, Freya woke up after her wounds were bandaged. Lying on the bed, she bit her pale lips and cried, "Dad, I've really tried my best. Why won't they let me go? Do they really want my life?"
Freya looked at Bryan as she spoke, but Bryan wasn't looking at her. He sat there, lost in thought.
Freya thought that in her current state, Bryan would surely feel sorry for her, but he didn't seem to.
"Dad?"
"Dad!"
Bryan finally looked up at Freya. Seeing her tear-streaked face, he felt annoyed.
Freya always cried and screamed whenever something happened.
Sometimes, it was clearly her fault, but her crying made others feel like she was the one wronged.
He knew Freya was faking it, just like Jennifer. They were good at pretending to be pitiful.
But Vivienne and Cecily were different. He had never seen Vivienne or Cecily cry and make a scene in front of him when they faced injustice or grievances.
Bryan used to indulge Freya, but ever since she used an innocent expression to say she didn't mean to harm Cecily during the kidnapping, he felt uncomfortable seeing that look on her face.
