Chapter 549 Cecily Helps Joshua Pay off His Debt?
Aurelie trembled. "Cecily?"
Cecily's gaze was icy as she flung Joshua's hand away, "Begging your daughter to pay off your debts while slapping on her? I've really seen it all today."
Joshua took a few steps back, intimidated by Cecily's cold demeanor and strong presence, not daring to approach further.
Seeing Cecily enter, Brent, Laura, and Lillian all stood up. Cecily pulled Aurelie behind her protectively and looked at them, "Didn't you say you weren't home?"
Cecily had just asked the guards at the door to inform Laura, and they had told her that Brent's family was not home.
Brent shot a cold glare at the useless guards, quickly retracting his gaze and looking at Cecily with a smile, "It must be a misunderstanding."
Cecily didn't respond to Brent, her eyes falling on the uterus donation agreement on the table, her gaze turning cold.
"Miss Watson? What are you doing at our house so late?" Lillian asked irritably.
"Naturally, I'm here to take my friend." Cecily bent down to pick up the agreement, carefully flipping through it.
Brent and the others felt their hearts tighten.
They knew Aurelie was easy to deal with, but Cecily was not, and Cecily had a good relationship with Aurelie.
"Donation agreement for the uterus?" Cecily raised her eyes, glancing at the group.
Lillian snatched the document back, saying, "Miss Watson, mind your own business and stay out of this."
"You're right. I usually don't meddle," Cecily replied, grabbing Aurelie's hand to leave.
"Hold on, Aurelie can't leave yet," Lillian called out loudly.
"Why not?"
"Because they still owe us money. Until they pay up, there's no way they're walking away."
Cecily paused, staying put. "Who owes money?"
"He does!" Lillian pointed directly at Joshua. The twenty million dollars was indeed their money, so Lillian had every reason to be confident about this.
Cecily nodded. "If he owes you money, then you should collect it from him. I'm taking Aurelie with me. I'm only responsible for my own people. Is that a problem?"
Without waiting for a response, Cecily tried to pull Aurelie away.
Aurelie looked at Cecily, tears of gratitude brimming in her lashes.
"Wait a minute." Laura quickly stepped in, grabbing Aurelie's arm. "Miss Miller, you can't just walk away. What about your father? If he can't pay, those people won't let him off the hook. Are you really going to stand by and watch him suffer?"
Cecily glanced back at Aurelie.
Aurelie pressed her lips together, making up her mind. "I've cut ties with him. Whether he lives or dies, it's no longer my concern."
"Cut ties? Blood is thicker than water. You can't just wash your hands of it with a few words. Mr. Miller, don't you agree?" Laura turned to Joshua.
Unable to handle the debt himself, Joshua was desperate. He lunged at Aurelie, grabbing her. "Aurelie, I'm your father. You can't be this heartless."
"Heartless? How many times did I warn you? Did you listen? I told you to stop gambling. Did you heed my words? Ending up like this is your own doing. I can't pay this money. Figure it out yourself." Aurelie yanked Joshua's hand away forcefully.
Joshua's gaze then shifted to Cecily. Aurelie might be broke, but Cecily had money.
Joshua lunged at Cecily, grabbing her arm with a pleading look. "Cecily, I know you have money. You're friends with Aurelie, so you wouldn't just stand by and do nothing, right? Lend her 200 million dollars to get me through this. Aurelie will pay you back later. The Bennett family's mansion burning down—whatever. 200 million to you is nothing…"
Cecily furrowed her brow.
Aurelie's eyes widened, cutting him off. "Joshua! Shut up."
"Why should I? Am I wrong? I heard everything when you were on the phone with her. The plan to let the mansion burn was your idea. Two million dollars to the Bennett family is a drop in the bucket. You're her friend, aren't you? Even if she gives you the money, she probably wouldn't blink an eye. She's got money to burn. Why wouldn't she help us?"
"Joshua! Shut up! Even if Cecily is rich, it's her money—why should she use it to pay off your debts?" Aurelie was trembling with anger, shocked by Joshua's sheer audacity.
Aurelie glanced apologetically at Cecily, feeling guilty for involving her in this mess.
Luckily, the Lewis family members weren't interested in the Bennett family's issues or Cecily's involvement, so they largely ignored Joshua's outburst.
"You ungrateful wretch, I raised you all these years and now you won't even help me settle the debt. What's the point of keeping your uterus if it's worth twenty million dollars? You won't sign the agreement, you fool. And her being rich—what's wrong with her using a bit of her money to help others? It's just stinginess. She won't even spend a little to help a friend," Joshua continued, rolling his eyes at Cecily, making Aurelie hang her head in shame.
Brent and Laura, listening in, winced at the harshness of Joshua's words. They couldn't believe how a father could treat his own daughter so callously.
"Anyway, I'm not letting this go. You're my daughter; you can't just ignore me. If you don't have the money, then borrow it from her." Joshua's face was set in a stubborn expression.
"Borrow money, huh? Fine," Cecily replied with a nod.
"Really?" Joshua's eyes lit up, his demeanor shifting. He rubbed his hands together and moved closer to Cecily with a fawning smile. "I knew Miss Watson was a generous person. People like you are rare. I knew you wouldn't just stand by. 200 million dollars—would you prefer a check or a card?"
"Cecily," Aurelie said, frowning as she turned to her friend.
Cecily gave her a worried look, but Aurelie offered a reassuring glance in return. She walked over and took the agreement from Lillian's hand. "So, you want to use this document as collateral for the twenty million dollars you're owed?"
"Exactly. We've already been more than accommodating—helping them with the debt and buying them time," Lillian said with a smug look. "But are you really sure you want to pay this? 200 million isn't small change; you should think it through."
Cecily turned back and handed the agreement to Joshua. "Here, take this."
"What does this mean?" Joshua asked, clearly confused.
"You have another daughter, right? Take this back and have her sign it. Oh, and you have a son too, don't you? There's still 180 million dollars. See if any of their organs are worth selling. 20 million per organ should cover it. You can trade that for the money. 180 million dollars and you're off the hook. They're still young; losing a few organs won't hurt them too much, right? People like me who are willing to help are rare. Go home and start digging, will you?"
"Are you insane?" Joshua stood frozen, processing Cecily's words. When he finally understood, his face turned crimson with rage. "How dare you be so cruel? How can you demand my daughter's uterus as repayment? And that last bit—are you out of your mind?"
"Why should I? What gives you the right? To you, aren't children just tools to pay off debts? You can demand that of Aurelie, so why not them? If you want me to help you settle your debts, then you'll do it my way. If you can't, then we're done here."
"You must be out of your mind!" Joshua spat, his teeth clenched. "My daughter has a future ahead of her; she's going to get married. What do you think will happen if you take away her uterus? How will she live? If you want something, go after Aurelie, but don't you dare lay a finger on them!"
Cecily let out a cold laugh, her gaze shifting to Aurelie, though her eyes betrayed a deeper pain.
She didn't genuinely want to harvest anyone's organs; that wasn't her style. Her aim was to help Aurelie see Joshua for who he really was.
Aurelie looked up in disbelief, her eyes searching Joshua's. Her lashes fluttered as she struggled to comprehend that the man she had called father for over twenty years could utter such words.
"Are you even human?" Aurelie's voice trembled as she confronted Joshua.
"Am I not human? And you think you are? You won't even help me with my debts. If I had known you were this ungrateful, I should have just suffocated you at birth."
Aurelie forced a bitter smile, sarcasm lacing her words. "I honestly wish you had."
"I don't care what you think. You're my daughter, and you will do as I say. Sign this agreement, and you'll get the $180 million from Cecily. Otherwise, I'll take you to court for refusing to support your own father."
"You!" Aurelie was so furious she could barely speak.
Cecily was equally taken aback by Joshua's shamelessness.
Joshua stepped forward, grabbing Aurelie's arm. She tried to pull away, but he yanked her hard, causing her to lose her balance and stumble sideways.
Cecily reacted quickly, reaching out to catch Aurelie, but she was still recovering from her injuries and lacked the strength to hold her up.
Just then, a large hand subtly caught Aurelie around the waist, steadying her. When she turned to see who it was, Nathaniel had already made his way to Lillian's side.
