Chapter 290 The Banquet, Miss Bennett

"Father? Father?"

Owen was momentarily lost in thought. Sandra called him several times before he responded.

"What's the matter?" Sandra asked, puzzled.

"It's nothing. It's just that what you're saying sounds unlikely. Eliza has been dead for thirteen years. If she were still alive, she would have come back to us. How could she possibly become the Bennett family's heiress? It's absurd."

"But..."

"You're overthinking it. A scar on her hand doesn't prove anything. Coincidences happen."Owen directly refuted Sandra's words.

"No, if the scar was a coincidence, why did she hide it from me? It's because she knew I would recognize her if I saw the scar, so she didn't dare let me see it."

Sandra knew that her words just now sounded unbelievable. If she hadn't seen that scar, if she hadn't seen Eliza's reaction at that time, she wouldn't have believed it either. But now, it seemed highly likely that what she said was true.

However, to outsiders, a scar alone couldn't be considered evidence or proof of anything.

If she were to suddenly tell someone that a person who had been dead for thirteen years had changed her face and become the Bennett family's heiress, and her only basis for saying so was seeing a scar, no one who didn't know the truth would believe her.

Even Owen didn't believe what she was saying now. Sandra felt a bit anxious. "Dad, please believe me."

"Alright, stop overthinking. You're just like Darian now, completely focused on helping that woman, Cecily. That's why you're thinking all these nonsensical things."

"I..." Sandra was momentarily speechless.

Owen's phone rang. He frowned and glanced at it, and his expression changed. "I need to take this call. This matter is of great importance. Don't tell anyone for now. Even if it's true, as you said, we still need evidence, understand?"

Owen wanted to calm Sandra down first.

Hearing his words, Sandra could only nod.

After speaking,Owen walked off to a quieter spot to answer. "Sandra has recognized you!"

Eliza's voice on the other end tensed up. "Yes, she saw the scar on my hand. I panicked and my actions gave me away, so I ask for your help."

"How can I help you?"

"I'm not sure what they will do at the banquet. If there are any changes, Grandfather, you should act accordingly."

She needed him to speak up for her.

Owen fell silent for a moment.

On the other end, Eliza nervously bit her lip and continued, "Grandfather, securing my position as the Bennett family's heiress helps me find Vivienne faster to avenge my father, right? If I am exposed, Cecily and Vivienne will only grow stronger. Helping me is helping yourself."

Owen knew her words were a mix of truth and self-interest. She might genuinely want revenge, but she also had her own desires.

"I understand. You don't need to remind me repeatedly."

"I'm afraid you might forget what happened back then, forget all the hatred. After all, Cecily is now getting back together with Darian. Grandfather, do you really want Darian to be with the daughter of his enemy?"

Of course, Owen didn't want that.

But Darian was stubborn and didn't listen to him at all.

He didn't want Darian to live in hatred like he did, so he hadn't told him the true cause of Phoenix's death before.

But now, it seemed unavoidable.

He was already deeply involved with Cecily.

"I have my own plans for these matters. You don't need to worry about them. Focus on yourself."

"I still need your help, Grandfather."

Owen didn't say anything, seemingly agreeing, and he hung up the phone.

Eliza stood upstairs, looking at the disconnected call, feeling uncertain. She tried calling her subordinates, but the calls went unanswered. She didn't know if they had successfully intercepted Cecily.

"Miss, it's time to go downstairs," Desmond walked over and reminded Eliza.

Eliza composed herself, put on a relaxed expression, and lightly smiled. She nodded. "Alright."

For now, they could only take one step at a time.

Eliza followed Desmond downstairs.

The hall downstairs was filled with guests; almost all of the invited ones had arrived.

Everyone was here to show respect to the Bennett family.

Eliza adjusted her dress and straightened her back, and a perfect smile appeared on her delicate face.

Desmond raised his hand, gesturing for Eliza to come down. Eliza held her dress and slowly descended the stairs.

As the sound of footsteps echoed on the staircase, everyone instinctively looked towards the person coming down the spiral stairs.

She was in a silver-white gown, with a beautiful face that shone brightly under the lights.

"Wow, is this the heiress that the Bennett family has found? She's really beautiful."

"Yes, she's so pretty and elegant. Even without being raised and educated in the Bennett family, she naturally possesses an extraordinary aura and grace."

"Look, the gown the heiress is wearing was personally designed by Master Brady, isn't it? I heard that nearly a thousand diamonds are sewn on the hem of this dress. Under the lights, it shines brilliantly, like a galaxy. Seeing it today, it is truly stunning."

"It seems to be that dress. Master Brady mentioned before that not anyone could wear this dress. Now, worn by the heiress of the Bennett family, it's as if it was tailored specifically for her. This can only mean that the heiress of the Bennett family is beautiful and has a great figure, to be able to interpret this dress so perfectly."

"The heiress of the Bennett family is so beautiful. She truly deserves this dress."

Listening to the compliments coming from all around, Eliza arrogantly lifted her chin, her face filled with confidence and pride, as if these praises and compliments belonged to her from the beginning.

Hudson elbowed Austin and raised his eyebrows. "Take a look."

Austin looked up and deeply gazed at the person, his slender eyebrows slightly raised.

If they hadn't heard about this from Darian earlier, they would have thought that the person coming down the stairs at this moment was Cecily.

In another corner, Elijah's dark eyes narrowed. 'Is this woman Cecily? Or is she the person who looks exactly like her, as mentioned by Cecily?' he wondered.

These similar actions and gestures made it difficult to distinguish.

Even more surprised were Ophelia and her family. The wine glass in Ophelia's hand dropped to the ground with a bang the moment she saw "Cecily".

The glass instantly shattered, spilling the red wine all over the floor.

Disbelief surged in her eyes. "How is this possible? How can it be like this? Cecily! It's really that despicable Cecily! Mom! It's really that despicable Cecily. She is the Bennett family's heiress!"

Tristan and Tabitha's eyes were also filled with disbelief.

'How could Cecily be the Bennett family's heiress? How is that possible?' they thought.

Ophelia couldn't believe it. She took a few steps forward uncontrollably. She couldn't accept that Cecily was the Bennett family's heiress. She wanted to go up and tear off her disguise.

She had always thought that her family background was enough to crush Cecily for a lifetime. If Cecily became the Bennett family's heiress, then there would be no place where Ophelia could surpass her.

Ophelia was consumed by jealousy.

"Ophelia, Ophelia!" Tabitha quickly pulled Ophelia, who seemed to be going crazy, back. "Calm down a bit."

Now, everyone was gathered around, complimenting the Bennett family's heiress. If Ophelia rushed up and offended her, it would probably bring trouble to the entire family.

Ophelia clenched her fists tightly, suppressing the jealousy in her heart.

She had suffered so much because of Cecily, and she would never let Cecily off that easily.
