Chapter 393 Cecily Is the Kindest
Jennifer's hand froze in place, a look of astonishment flashing in her eyes. She had merely given her a gentle push.
"Cecily, I just gave you a light push. Don't pretend to be hurt."
"You know very well that my foot is injured, yet you still pushed me. How could you be so malicious? I get it. It must be because of what happened before. You must hold a grudge against me."
"It's not that. I didn't mean to." Jennifer hadn't expected Cecily to pull such a stunt, and she stood there, helpless and at a loss.
Darian glanced down at Cecily, who was as sly as a cat in his arms, and gave a helpless smile, gently pinching her soft waist.
Cecily shivered and glared at Darian.
Darian smirked and held her properly.
Vivienne stepped forward, grabbing Jennifer's wrist, and said coldly, "Cecily kindly treated Freya's illness, and you dare to harm her."
"It's not that. I didn't mean to. Bryan, listen to me..."
Bryan frowned and said, "Enough. She treated Freya out of kindness. Why are you so agitated? Do you think she would harm Freya in front of so many people?"
"I..."
"Mr. Bryan, please don't blame Mrs. Jennifer. It's all my fault for making her angry."
Cecily leaned against Darian, wiping her eyes in a show of mock tears.
Bryan looked at Cecily, momentarily at a loss for what to do.
"Apologize," Darian said coldly to Jennifer, his calm tone carrying an overwhelming pressure.
Jennifer's molars were nearly ground to dust.
'Are they all blind? Couldn't they see that Cecily is acting?Couldn't they tell?' she wondered.
Jennifer bit her lower lip and said, "I..."
Darian glanced at her. "Do you not understand?"
Jennifer kept telling herself to hold back. She forced a smile and reluctantly stepped forward. "Cecily, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to push you. I was just worried you might hurt Freya."
"You're worried I might hurt Freya?" Cecily's lips curled.
"Madam, why do you assume the worst of me? Am I really such a bad person?" Cecily's beautiful face showed a look of grievance as she turned to Darian. "Tell me. Am I such a bad person?"
A smile curved Darian's lips.
She was adorably wicked.
"You're not bad. You're the kindest."
Cecily's gaze trembled slightly as she looked at Darian. For a moment, time seemed to stand still.
Darian smiled and patted her head. "Cecily, what's wrong?"
Cecily stared intently into Darian's deep eyes, hoping to find the key information she longed for. Unfortunately, his gaze held no love, only gentleness.
She had seen the look in his eyes when he loved her, and it wasn't like this.
As he said, he was kind to her now because he knew he had loved her before, so he understood he should treat her well.
That was all.
When she heard him call her name so familiarly and affectionately just now, Cecily had indeed been momentarily dazed, thinking he had remembered her.
Cecily quickly concealed her slight disappointment and averted her gaze. "It's nothing."
Darian noticed a flicker of emotion in her eyes but couldn't discern its origin. He pondered for a moment, unable to figure it out, and eventually said nothing, letting everything return to indifference.
"Do you still want to continue treating her?" Darian asked, looking at her.
Cecily gathered her thoughts, glanced at Freya, who was still pretending to be unconscious, and smiled. "Of course, a good deed must be done to the end. It wouldn't be good to leave it unfinished."
Jennifer wanted to intervene, but a cold glance from Darian made her retract her outstretched hand timidly.
Freya, lying on the couch, heard everything clearly. She was tense, trying hard not to give herself away.
But she was truly terrified of letting Cecily inject her with medication.
'Cecily, that malicious wretch,' Freya cursed Cecily countless times inwardly.
Cecily took out a gleaming syringe again and grabbed Freya's hand. "Let's continue the treatment then. It's not good for Freya to stay unconscious for too long. It could be dangerous."
Just as Cecily was about to inject the needle into Freya's fingertip, Freya couldn't hold back her fear any longer and quickly withdrew her hand.
The speed of it left Bryan momentarily stunned.
Cecily looked at the retracted hand and smiled slightly.
"Freya?" Jennifer rushed over and hugged Freya.
Freya's eyes reddened. "Mom..."
"Freya, how are you feeling? Are you still uncomfortable?" Jennifer gave Freya a meaningful look.
Freya had no choice but to continue the act, rubbing her temples. "Mom, I felt really dizzy just now, but after resting a bit, I feel much better."
Bryan watched the scene with a furrowed brow. Anyone with common sense could see that Freya had been faking it.
Cecily put the syringe away and looked at Freya. "Freya woke up just in time."
Freya didn't dare meet Cecily's gaze and forced a weak smile. "Cecily, it's because of your excellent medical skills."
"I haven't even treated you yet. How do you know my medical skills are excellent?"
Freya bit her lip, speechless, and glanced nervously at Bryan, who now looked even more disappointed.
Freya quickly lowered her head like a child who had done something wrong.
Vivienne watched the scene with endless sarcasm in her eyes. She glanced at Bryan and said in a cold, emotionless voice, "Take them away."
Bryan looked at Vivienne, knowing she was in a bad mood. Staying any longer would only upset her more, so he had no choice but to leave.
Jennifer helped Freya up. They glanced at Vivienne and Cecily, unwillingly following Bryan.
Outside, Bryan's aura was so cold that Jennifer and Freya didn't dare get too close.
Tonight, not only had they failed to achieve their goal, but they had also been mocked, leaving them both seething with anger.
Freya lowered her voice and asked furiously, "Mom, what should we do next? Are we really going to leave Dad? I don't want to."
They had relied on Bryan for so long that they had no idea how to live without him.
Besides, they were used to a life of luxury. No one would willingly go back to a life of hardship.
