Chapter 106 Trouble at the Doorstep
Cecily furrowed her brow, worriedly asking, "Where are you guys now?"
"I just got Rowan back home, and the moment we stepped inside, they showed up. Aunt Mary didn't know who they were, so she let her guard down and opened the door. Now they're stuck at the entrance."
Cecily clenched her phone, "They really are relentless."
"No, I don't think they're here for the company today. They didn't mention it. They just seem eager to get into your place. It looks like they're searching for something. I'm hiding in your room with Rowan, too scared to go out."
Mentioning Rowan made Cecily cautious not to let Darian hear, as it was very quiet inside the car, and the conversation could easily be overheard. Luckily, Aurelie had also lowered her voice.
Cecily took a deep breath, thinking about how Rowan had accidentally made noise last night and Raphael had heard. They must have come today to confirm whether or not she had a child.
There was no point in talking more over the phone. Cecily said, "I understand. I'll be right there."
After hanging up, Cecily urgently looked at Darian, "Please, can you drive faster? It’s an emergency."
Hearing the urgency in her voice, Darian naturally sped up.
...
Outside Cecily's apartment.
Aunt Mary stood at the doorway with the unwavering presence of someone holding the fort, brandishing a broom like a weapon. "I'm going to say this one more time. If you two don't leave, I'm calling the police," she declared with finality.
Raphael found himself at odds with Mary's resolute stance, his face clouding over with frustration.
"I've told you I'm Cecily's father. It's my right to enter my daughter's house. What right do you have, a housekeeper, to stop me? Step aside," he demanded.
Aunt Mary waved the broom with a stern expression. "Miss Cecily has forbidden you from entering. If I let you in, what kind of housekeeper would I be? Let me make myself clear, as long as I'm here, I’ll make sure you won’t step foot inside."
"Can't you understand plain English? We're her family. Why wouldn't she allow us in?" Elysia shoved Aunt Mary, intent on forcing her way inside.
Elysia was convinced Cecily's nervousness about others entering her house meant she had something to hide, most likely a child hidden in that very room. They would catch her in the act if they could just get inside. With this thought, Elysia's lips curved into a sly smile.
However, Aunt Mary swiftly swatted Elysia across the face with the broom. Elysia screamed, clutching her face where she’d been struck and stepping back with wide eyes, staring at Aunt Mary in disbelief that a mere housekeeper would dare strike her.
"Yuck." Elysia spat out dust, disgustedly wiping her mouth, and angrily shouted, "How dare a servant hit me?"
"Invade a private home, and I'll dare to hit you. What’s more, I'm going to call the cops and get you arrested,” Aunt Mary tightened her grip on the broom handle, her eyes fierce and unyielding.
"This is outrageous," Raphael roared, unable to control his anger. "Cecily has no manners, and apparently, neither do her servants. A father blocked from seeing his own daughter? What kind of twisted logic is that? Get out of my way."
Enraged and reckless, Raphael grabbed the broom from Aunt Mary's hands. Not having the strength to match a man's, Aunt Mary lost her grip, and the broom was snatched away.
With a grunt of anger, Raphael shoved Aunt Mary aside and barged into the house.
"You can’t go in there."
However, Elysia was ruthless, pushing Aunt Mary aside roughly. "Move it. If you get in the way of our business, you’ll regret it," she threatened.
"What are you doing? This is Cecily's house. Breaking and entering is rebellion, isn't it?" Aurelie hid Rowan away, exited the room, and scolded the two fiercely.
Elysia crossed her arms and glanced around, spotting a children's book on the couch, confirming her suspicion that Cecily had secretly had a child.
"Cecily is my sister. Do I need your approval to visit my own sister's house?" Elysia stood tall and defiant in front of Aurelie.
"Dad." Elysia signaled with her eyes toward the room Aurelie had just come out of, confident that the child was hidden there.
'Cecily, oh Cecily, your secret can't be concealed any longer.'
Elysia's lips curled up in smug triumph.
Raphael and Elysia exchanged glances and strode toward Cecily's room.
Aurelie immediately intervened, stepping in front of him, "What now? Breaking and entering isn't enough. You even want to search the owner's room as well?"
"This is my daughter's room. I'll enter if I want," Raphael said, reaching out to push past Aurelie.
Aurelie shouted, "Aunt Mary, get the knife. I refuse to let these scoundrels live another day."
Without any confusion, Aunt Mary hurried out with a cleaver and handed it to Aurelie.
Aurelie looked at the cleaver in her hands and then at Aunt Mary.
'Oh, Mary, maybe not such a huge knife; what if I really struck someone...'
'Let it be.'
'One can't lose their momentum.'
Aurelie lifted the cleaver, and her presence instantly intensified as she glared menacingly at the two, "Come on, try entering. Let's see if I don't end you today."
