Chapter 291 The True Heiress of The Bennett Has Arrived.
Eliza enjoyed the feeling of standing in the center of the crowd, attracting everyone's attention and shining brightly. She gently brushed her hair, tucking the strands that fell in front behind her shoulders, showcasing her delicate and beautiful collarbones. Her face was already stunning, but combined with the dress she was wearing, which sparkled in the light, she seemed to be glowing.
The men around couldn't help but stare. At this moment, Eliza undoubtedly outshone everyone with her face and attire. She smiled even more brightly, realizing that Cecily hadn't arrived yet, which put her at ease. Cecily was destined not to come tonight.
Meanwhile, outside the Bennett family, a black Rolls-Royce came to a steady stop. Darian, dressed in an expensive suit, opened the door and got out of the car. The door on the other side opened, and he reached out his hand towards the woman.
The woman gracefully emerged from the car, gazing at the grand entrance of the Bennett family. She took a deep breath and placed her hand in Darian's.
"Are you nervous?" Darian asked in a low, husky voice.
Cecily shook her head gently. "The one who should be nervous is never me."
He liked her confident and calm demeanor, and he smiled and placed her hand on his arm. Cecily held up her dress with one hand and linked her other arm with Darian's, walking slowly inside.
At that moment, she didn't notice the several Bennett guards standing nearby, all of whom were staring intently. The banquet had already begun, and there weren't many people outside anymore. However, as the two of them walked a distance, they saw a figure with a cane standing with his back towards them.
It was Owen!
He turned around slowly, his serious gaze meeting theirs, disappointment evident in his eyes as he looked at Darian. Darian's expression turned cold instantly.
Cecily noticed the change in his demeanor and Owen's displeasure at seeing them together, so she tactfully took a step back. Just as she was about to let go of his hand, Darian's grip tightened, as if he never wanted to let go in this lifetime.
Owen spoke with a stern expression, "I have something to say to both of you. Come with me."
Darian interrupted, "You can say it later."
"Do you really want to spoil someone else's party before you'll be satisfied?"
Darian's eyes bore into Owen He couldn't believe Owen wasn't aware of the recent events. He knew everything that happened and was well aware that Sandra's injury had nothing to do with Cecily, but the impostor.
'Is he here now to obstruct us, to help the impostor?' The thought only deepened Darian's displeasure.
"Are you stopping us because of that impostor?" Darian asked resentfully.
"I don't know who the impostor is. All I know is you can't continue your antics with Cecily. You've already lost your sense for her, disregarding everyone's opinion, even staking your reputation to vouch for her, and now, here you are for her again. Do you have any sense of what it means to be a future heir of the Fitzgerald family?"
Owen's anger flared up, and he questioned Darian with a harsh tone, coughing a few times in his frustration.
Darian furrowed his brow and retorted, "Do you expect me to stand by and do nothing, just like you, knowing that she is being wrongly accused? Should I even step on her while I'm at it? Is that what you consider right?"
"Don't bother with her. That's what's right," Mr. Fitzgerald replied.
"I don't understand why you have such a problem with her. What has she done wrong?" Darian asked, a question that Cecily herself wanted to know the answer to.
Cecily's expression turned bitter as she wondered what she had done to incur Owen's disdain.
"She is your..." Owen, seething, nearly let the words slip, but upon looking at Darian, he caught himself.
"What is she to me?" Darian narrowed his eyes.
Owen stared at Darian in silence for a full five seconds, but he still couldn't bring himself to say those words. Now was not the time.
"In any case, I absolutely disagree with the two of you being together. If you want to be with her, it will only happen over my dead body!" Owen's hand tightened, his gaze fixed on Darian.
Cecily's heart sank, and her gaze became incredibly complex. What was the secret thatOwen suddenly held back from telling Darian?
"You are coming back with me now,"Owen demanded.
"So, that's the real reason you've been waiting here today." Cecily looked atOwen and spoke up, "You don't want us to enter the Bennett family's hall, and you're helping the person inside, aren't you?"
Owen's first sentence to them was an attempt to send them away. The second was a plea to avoid any unpleasantness at the banquet. He knew that once they entered, there would surely be trouble.
Owen's expression tightened. "I am not helping anyone."
Cecily sighed, "Well, I am going in. Please don't stop me."
As soon as Cecily finished speaking, Owen's eyes darkened, and Sawyer, along with the bodyguards, immediately intervened to prevent them from moving forward.
Cecily raised an eyebrow. "And what do you mean by this?"
"Behave yourself,"Owen warned coldly.
"It's not that I'm misbehaving. Someone has taken what's mine, and I need to get it back."
Darian's face was extremely gloomy at this moment, and Larkin behind him showed no signs of backing down, leading his people forward to confront Owen's men.
"You go in first," Darian said to Cecily.
Cecily nodded.
Owen's face darkened. "Stop her."
Darian pressed his lips together, his gaze icy. "If you want me to start a fight in someone else's home, then go ahead. Tomorrow's headline will be about the internal discord within the Fitzgerald family at the Bennett estate."
"Darian!"Owen exclaimed in anger.
"Ignore him. Go." Darian disregarded Owen's fury and let Cecily enter.
Cecily didn't hesitate. She knewOwen had his limits and wouldn't really come to blows with Darian.
Under the tense watch of everyone, Cecily quickly walked in from the side.
Owen looked at the scene of himself and Darian on the verge of a fight, his head pounding.
In the hall, Desmond stood at the forefront with Eliza, and the whole room quieted down to watch them.
Desmond smiled and said, "I am very grateful for everyone taking the time to attend the banquet. Today, we have a joyous announcement to share with everyone. I'm sure you have all heard by now. The person standing next to me is the sole..."
"Wait!"
A clear voice interrupted.
The doors of the hall slowly opened, and a figure appeared in the doorway.
