Chapter 474 The Show Begins
"Cecily, how did this happen?" Aurelie, who was nearby, was just as shocked.
This was so sudden.
Owen had passed away just like that?
Vivienne frowned, looking at Cecily, and quickly analyzed the situation.
"Cecily, if Owen's really dead, you know all about what Josep did. He won't let you go. He wants control of the Fitzgerald Group, and Darian's his first target. You're Darian's weak spot, so he'll come after you first. You're pregnant; you can't risk anything. It would be best for you to come back to Detroit with me and wait until Darian sorts this out."
Vivienne had thought Josep had some decency, but now it seemed he had none. Someone like that was dangerous.
"But I can't reach Darian. I don't know how he's doing." Cecily was worried.
Owen was dead, Sandra was missing, and she couldn't reach Darian. If she ran away now, she would feel like she was abandoning everything, just like Ophelia did. Plus, Josep had accused her of causing Owen's death. Leaving Silver Frost Capital now would look like she was fleeing out of guilt.
"Aunt Vivienne, it's not right for Cecily to leave now. Josep just accused her of murder. If you take her away, he'll use it against her," Aurelie said.
Josep had no proof Cecily was the murderer, and Cecily couldn't prove Josep was either. But if she left, it would look like she was guilty.
"And with Owen dead, the Fitzgerald family and the Fitzgerald Group will change. The media will find out, and Josep will use them against Cecily. Public opinion is powerful; there's no hiding from it."
What Aurelie said made sense. Vivienne was worried about Cecily, which was why she suggested leaving. Going to Detroit and then to the Bennett family would keep Cecily safe. Neither Cecily nor Vivienne wanted a repeat of the last incident. Vivienne had been on edge for too long and didn't want to go through it again. It would be too dangerous to stay, especially since Cecily was pregnant.
"Yes, I can't leave," Cecily said firmly. Besides all those reasons, the shares Owen had asked her to transfer to Darian were still with her. She was already involved and couldn't escape it.
"Mom, don't worry. I'll protect myself, the baby, Rowan, and Griffin. Things are chaotic right now. We should send Rowan and Griffin to the Bennett family for safety."
"Okay, I'll arrange for Desmond to take the kids to the Bennett family."
"Alright." Cecily calmed down. Darian had been out of contact for too long; he must be in danger.
"Mom, please send someone to check on Darian. I'm really worried about him."
"Okay."
Mark returned to Josep. "Sir."
"Why didn't you bring her back? Can't you handle a simple task?" Josep asked, knowing Mark hadn't completed it.
"Sir, Cecily is being protected by the Bennett family. Without concrete evidence, acting against her would mean going against them. So, I didn't act rashly."
A flash of ruthlessness crossed Josep's eyes. He had almost forgotten—Cecily wasn't an ordinary woman. Moving against her meant going against the Bennett family. Without solid evidence, he couldn't target her openly.
"You said she fainted earlier. Why?"
"Low blood sugar," Mark replied.
Josep didn't ask any more questions. He squinted toward the ward where Darian lay unconscious. Seeing Darian like this was entertaining, and Cecily, as Darian's beloved, shouldn't miss it.
"Go tell Cecily about Darian's hospitalization," he ordered, then reconsidered. "No, I'll go myself."
Cecily was in her ward, anxiously waiting for news about Darian. Instead, Josep showed up. He didn't bother lying anymore. He showed no sadness over Owen's death.
"Having a son like you was the greatest misfortune of Owen's life," Cecily spat, her anger rising. It was despicable that Josep had killed his father and brother for money and power.
Josep laughed. "Why so hostile? I'm just here to tell you Darian's in bad shape. He's in a coma in the ward upstairs."
Cecily's heart tightened. Her usually calm eyes trembled.
"You might not believe me, but you can send someone to check," Josep said.
Cecily gritted her teeth. "What did you do?"
"What did I do?" Josep laughed. "You have the wrong idea. Darian fainted at the company; everyone saw it. I was home the whole time. It had nothing to do with me."
Cecily knew if something happened to Darian, it was likely related to Josep.
"I've told you what I needed to. Whether you go see him or not is up to you," Josep said, leaving as if he had no other purpose.
Cecily's mind was in turmoil. Owen's death, Sandra's disappearance, and now Darian's coma—one thing after another. Her head spun, her mind a tangled mess.
Vivienne held Cecily's cold hand. Cecily's eyes trembled as she looked at Vivienne, who remained calm.
"No matter what happens, we must not panic. And you're pregnant now, so you need to be even more careful. No one else can find out about the pregnancy," Vivienne said.
Cecily nodded firmly. Yes, they must not panic. Josep wanted her to panic when he told her about Darian's coma.
Aurelie looked at Cecily worriedly. "Cecily, what should we do now?"
Cecily took a deep breath, and her eyes regained clarity. "We should go see Darian."
As Cecily walked from the elevator to the door of Darian's ward, she imagined all possible scenarios of Darian's coma. But none were acceptable to her.
As she reached the ward door, Josep was standing there. He knew Cecily would come. He raised an eyebrow. The show was about to begin.
