Chapter 148 Cecily's Greatest Weakness

The doctor paused, understanding Cecily's request, "You don't want that gentleman to know about your one kidney, right?"

Cecily nodded, "He doesn't need to know."

What good would telling him do?

To make him feel guilty? Then continue an endless entanglement between them with Ophelia still in the picture?

Pointless.

It was too exhausting.

She'd rather he knew nothing and leave her be.

Seeing her insistence, the doctor nodded, "I understand."

At that moment, Darian walked in, his voice cool as he asked, "How is her health?"

Following Cecily's instructions, the doctor repeated the same to Darian.

Darian didn't quite believe it, "Everything’s normal?"

"Yes."

If everything was normal, then why did the doctor last night say her health was different from a normal person?

Noticing Darian furrowing his brow, Cecily raised hers mockingly, "What? You're not happy to hear I'm in good health?"

Darian looked down at her, feeling she was hiding something.

Just like that child before.

Darian's frown deepened, but he didn't speak.

"Let's go," Cecily said, picking up her paperwork and walking out.

After they had left, Ophelia, who had been following them all morning wearing a baseball cap and a face mask, sneaked into the examination room and asked, "Doctor, what's with that woman who just left?"

The doctor eyed Ophelia's disguise with suspicion and asked, "Do you know them?"

Ophelia nodded. "Yeah, we're good friends."

Not sure whether Cecily wanted her condition of having only one kidney disclosed, the doctor carefully answered, "She's in good health, all her vitals are normal."

"All normal?" Ophelia asked the same question Darian had, with the same hint of surprise.

The doctor didn't understand why they found it so surprising. Wasn't it a normal thing?

"Yes," the doctor responded with impatience, repeating the answer.

Ophelia's face filled with disappointment.

She had spent the morning accompanying Cecily through her medical check-up, half expecting to find that Cecily was facing some life-threatening illness, only to discover she was quite healthy.

It was a letdown for Ophelia.

She continued to follow them out.

She was worried that Cecily might try to charm Darian again. Ophelia was determined to keep an eye on Cecily, certain she was up to no good.

When Cecily and Darian left the hospital, Darian looked at his watch – it was one in the afternoon.

"What do you want to eat?"

Cecily patted her stomach. She had been fasting for the tests that morning and now that it was well past noon, she was indeed hungry.

However, she didn't want to eat with Darian. "I'm not hungry."

Right on cue, her stomach growled.

Darian raised an eyebrow.

Cecily awkward smiled.

"I'll eat at home."

Darian glanced at her. "Alright, I'll take you home."

Cecily immediately refused. "No need, I can take a taxi. I won't bother you. You probably have to get back to work anyway, so go ahead."

Darian looked at Cecily, a hint of a sarcastic smile crossing his knowing eyes.

Cecily was definitely afraid.

It was the weekend, and Rowan was at home. Although Darian was now aware of the child's existence, Cecily did not want him to meet Rowan.

The expression in Cecily's eyes flickered, but before she could think further, Darian grasped her wrist, yanked her to her feet, and marched forward without allowing her to object. "I'll take you home."

Cecily was at a loss for words.

They arrived at Cecily's apartment building.

Cecily quickly thanked him and tried to get out of the car, but Darian grabbed her, "Aren't you going to invite me in?"

"I think Mr. Fitzgerald is probably very busy. Maybe some other time."

Darian unbuckled his seatbelt. "Not busy."

Cecily blinked and said nothing else.

After all, she had already asked Aunt Mary to take Rowan out when she returned home.

Darian was bound to miss seeing anyone now.

Cecily and Darian walked into the apartment, one after the other, while Ophelia trailed behind jealously.

Darian had not only spent the morning with Cecily at her check-up, but he was now personally escorting her home.

Ophelia's envy was brimming over.

What did that woman Cecily have to deserve this?

"Damn it."

Ophelia didn't dare do anything now. Darian was already furious with her, and if she were to confront them now, Darian would surely be even more angered if he found out she had followed them. Holding back her resentment, Ophelia had no choice but to leave.

As she drove off, Ophelia narrowed her eyes and spotted Aunt Mary at the curb with a child, hailing a cab.

Having interacted with her several times before, Ophelia recognized Aunt Mary as the Watson family's housekeeper.

She hadn't seen the child's face clearly, but judging by his height, she was certain he was about five or six years old.
Aunt Mary, being Cecily's aunt, naturally meant that the child she was with was also Cecily's child.

Ophelia couldn't help but erupt in laughter. "Cecily, you truly do have a child, and I've found them now, haven't I?"

However, Ophelia's joy lasted for merely a second before she sensed something was amiss.

Cecily's child! Five or six years old!

Could it be that… the child from back then didn't die?

Impossible.

A sinking feeling hit Ophelia as she drove her car closer, her gaze firmly fixed on the child's face. Her pupils constricted sharply, and she covered her mouth in shock.

This child...

He looked exactly like Rowan.

Exactly the same!

The child from back then hadn't died?

"Rowan, be careful," Aunt Mary called out to Rowan amidst Ophelia's suspicions.

Rowan?

Ophelia narrowed her eyes.

He's Rowan?

How could this be?

Ophelia quickly pulled out her phone to make a call to the Fitzgerald family's housekeeper, "Is Rowan at home today?"

"Miss Ophelia, are you looking for the young master? He’s at home," came the reply.

At home!

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, the young master just went upstairs."

A heavy sense of dread filled Ophelia.

''Rowan' is at home, so who is this child?'

'Or is it that this one is the real Rowan?'

'And the one at the Fitzgerald household isn't?'

'No matter what, this moment is enough to prove there were two children!'

'Cecily had twins back then, and neither had died.'

Disbelief filled Ophelia's eyes as she remembered all she had done back then.

She had failed to kill even one of them.

How could they mother and sons be so resilient!

Shaking, Ophelia reached for her phone again, dialed a number, and as soon as the call connected, she couldn't help but cry out, "Mom, that child didn't die, didn't die."

"What? Ophelia, what are you talking about? Which child didn't die?"

"Cecily's kids, none of Cecily's kids died, she's living with another one of her children."

"Is that true? That can't be possible."

Ophelia stared at the two who had just gotten into the car, utterly certain, "I saw it, clear as day."

"Mom, what do I do? What should I do? One child was already enough to drive us up the wall, and now she actually has two kids. If Darian finds out they're really his, I'm ruined."

Tabitha fell silent for a while before calmly responding, "Don't panic, Ophelia. Remember what I've told you before? If we're going to deal with Cecily, we need to find her vulnerability."

Ophelia, "Hmm."

"Now we've found it, haven’t we? Her children are her greatest weakness. We just need to target her kids, and we can slowly torment her to death."

"Mom, you mean?"

"Just imagine what a mother would go through if she lost her beloved child?"

"She'd be devastated." Ophelia's eyes sparkled.

"Exactly. If she's devastated, will she have the energy to compete with you for Darian?"

Ophelia took a deep breath.

Right, why hadn't she thought of it before?

Cecily had worked so hard to hide her child precisely because she was afraid of being discovered and harmed.

Now that she had found out, this was Cecily's biggest vulnerability.
