Chapter 712 Saw Nathaniel
"Okay." Cecily nodded, but when she turned around, she realized Aurelie hadn't come back yet. "Where's Aurelie?"
Cecily also didn't see the two bodyguards who went after Aurelie return, and her heart started to race.
They must have been targeted tonight; otherwise, it wouldn't be such a coincidence that the car came at her just when she didn't have any bodyguards around.
So Cecily was very worried about Aurelie's situation now. She didn't know why Aurelie had suddenly left.
Cecily wanted to find her phone to call Aurelie, but she discovered that her phone had just been smashed by that car.
Cecily rubbed her forehead in frustration. "Griffin, quickly call Aurelie and tell her to come back and not to run around."
"Okay." Griffin raised his smartwatch and immediately called Aurelie.
The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered.
At this moment, Aurelie kept walking forward, chasing a very familiar figure. She looked almost possessed, not caring about her six-month pregnant belly, bumping into passersby. The figure in front of her was getting farther away, and she was walking faster and faster.
"Ah!" Her shoulder was suddenly hit hard by someone running past, and Aurelie lost her balance and fell to the ground. She frantically looked up, but the figure had already disappeared.
"Hey, are you okay?" The person who had bumped into her saw that he had knocked over a pregnant woman and quickly stopped to check on her.
Aurelie seemed not to hear him at all, her eyes fixed ahead as if searching for something.
"Hey, are you okay? Don't just sit there without saying anything; it's really scary, you know?" the man asked.
The man looked at Aurelie in a panic, afraid that she might accuse him of something if she got hurt.
Aurelie, looking frantic, tried to stand up by supporting herself on the ground. The man who had bumped into her, feeling somewhat responsible, reached out to help her. As Aurelie got up, holding her belly, she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen.
Seeing her pained expression, the man widened his eyes. "Are you going into labor? Don't scare me. Do you need me to call an ambulance?"
Aurelie pushed him away, bit her lip, and continued to chase forward.
"Nathaniel!" She murmured his name, holding her belly and running forward.
The man who had knocked her down stayed where he was, afraid that he had seriously hurt Aurelie. He was about to follow her to check when he saw Aurelie's phone fall to the ground.
He picked up the phone and turned to shout in Aurelie's direction. "Hey, you dropped your phone."
Aurelie couldn't hear anything else.
The phone started ringing, and the man, looking troubled, answered it while chasing after her, "Hello?"
Griffin finally got through to Aurelie's phone but heard another man's voice. Griffin asked, "Who are you?"
"Give it to me." Cecily took Griffin's smartwatch. "Hello."
"Hi, are you a friend of the phone's owner?" the man asked.
Cecily didn't know why Aurelie's phone was with someone else, but the person didn't seem to have bad intentions. Cecily replied, "Yes, I am. Why do you have my friend's phone?"
"Well, I accidentally bumped into your friend while running. I saw she was pregnant and didn't dare to leave, afraid she might get hurt."
Hearing this, Cecily became even more anxious.
"How is she now?"
"I'm not sure. I saw her holding her belly; I don't know if she's going into labor."
Cecily was alarmed. "Why do you have her phone? Is she unable to answer it? What's going on?"
"Don't worry. Her phone fell, and I picked it up for her. She seems to be in a hurry. I asked if she was okay, but she didn't respond and just kept running forward. She must be chasing something. I'm holding her phone and following her now."
Cecily took a deep breath. "Okay, please make sure to catch up with her. Don't hang up the phone. Keep an eye on her for me. We're coming over right now. She's six months pregnant, and I'm afraid something might happen to her."
"Okay, I feel bad for knocking her down, so I won't just leave."
"Thank you."
Cecily didn't hang up the phone and immediately sent people to look in the direction Aurelie had gone.
Aurelie pushed through the crowd and saw the figure again at a crosswalk waiting for the light.
"Nathaniel!" she shouted.
Someone heard her shout, turned to look at her, and then turned back. But the figure didn't turn around. Aurelie caught up and grabbed his arm, her eyes full of hope. "Nathaniel!"
The man turned his head, shifting his gaze from his phone to Aurelie.
Aurelie's pupils trembled.
"Do you need something?" the man asked her.
Aurelie stared, frozen in place; it wasn't Nathaniel.
The man saw Aurelie staring blankly at him and asked again, "Do you need something?"
"No." The light in Aurelie's eyes slowly dimmed.
"Then please let go of me." Aurelie looked down at her hand gripping the man's arm and finally let go, her eyes full of disappointment.
Could she have been mistaken?
But she had clearly seen Nathaniel's back just now, so why wasn't it him?
She had definitely seen him.
The baby in her belly seemed to kick her restlessly at that moment, causing a sharp pain. Aurelie clutched her belly and slowly bent over.
People around her noticed something was wrong and turned to look at her.
"Are you okay?"
"You're pregnant. Are you having stomach pains?"
"Are you alright?"
Aurelie couldn't control her tears, the light in her eyes extinguished in an instant. "It's not him. Nathaniel, where are you?"
The man who had knocked Aurelie down and was holding her phone caught up to her. Seeing her sitting on the ground, he said to Cecily on the other end of the phone, "Hello, your friend is sitting on the ground now. I don't know what's happening."
"Okay, please stay by her side for a moment. We're coming right over."
"Alright."
When Cecily arrived, she saw Aurelie sitting on the ground, already in tears.
"Aurelie?" Cecily jogged over to her.
Aurelie looked up with tear-filled eyes, grabbed Cecily's hand, and said urgently, "Cecily, I just saw him."
"Saw who?"
"Nathaniel. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't catch up to him." Aurelie sobbed uncontrollably.
"Nathaniel?" Cecily looked at her, then raised her eyes to scan the surroundings, realizing they were in Detroit.
Detroit was far from Silver Frost Capital. Even by private jet, it would take several hours. Nathaniel had gone missing in the waters of Silver Frost Capital. How could he possibly be in Detroit?
"You must have been mistaken. Let's get up first." Cecily tried to help Aurelie up, but Aurelie clung tightly to Cecily's hand, shaking her head repeatedly.
"No, I wasn't mistaken. It was him. I wouldn't mistake his back. Cecily, believe me."
Cecily bit her lip, feeling heartbroken for Aurelie. She wanted to believe her, but she was more inclined to think Aurelie had made a mistake. The chances of Nathaniel surviving were very slim. Even if he had survived, it had only been two months. His injuries wouldn't have healed yet, so how could he be in Detroit?
But seeing Aurelie's state, Cecily couldn't bear to shatter her hope. So she said, "Okay, I'll have them search around here later. But you need to get up first. The ground is too cold, and you're pregnant. You can't sit on the ground. Please, get up, okay?"
"Do you believe me?"
"Yes. But you need to get up. Sitting here won't help you find him, right? Get up, and we'll have people search thoroughly. If it's really him, we'll find him." Cecily patiently persuaded Aurelie.
Aurelie sniffled and stood up, supporting herself on the ground.
"Don't cry. Come back with us first. I'll have the bodyguards search for you, okay? You're heavily pregnant, and it's hard for you to walk. If you get hurt, it won't be good, right?"
"I want to search myself."
Cecily was in a bit of a dilemma. There were too many people here, and it was a commercial street. Even if Nathaniel was really here, finding him would be very difficult.
"How about..."
Before Cecily could finish her sentence, Aurelie was knocked out.
"What are you doing?" Cecily quickly caught her, shocked, and looked at Blaise, who had knocked Aurelie out.
"If I didn't knock her out, would you be able to take her back? She's been dragging this out for too long." Blaise had lost his patience watching from the side.
