Chapter 523 Her Paternity Test with Bryan
The phone was silent for a while before Darian finally said, "We'll talk when I return."
Darian returned quickly and saw Cecily's thin figure leaning against the window. He strode over, his gaze icy.
Cecily turned around, and a large hand pulled her into his embrace.
"Cecily, I never intended to marry Freya. Everything before was just a temporary measure. If you're upset about it, I can make her disappear right now.
Darian continued, "But I won't allow you to gamble with yourself, and I certainly won't allow you to marry someone else."
Cecily was held tightly in Darian's embrace, feeling the warmth radiate from his body. Gradually, she raised her stiff arms and reciprocated the gesture, returning the hug with equal affection.
"I know all about you and Freya. You don't need to explain. You were a temporary measure, and so was I. Besides, none of it was real, right?"
"Even if it was fake, I won't allow it. Did you hear me?"Darian looked angry.
Cecily closed her eyes tightly. "I wasn't discussing with you. You understand this is the safest and fastest way, right? Please don't be stubborn."
Darian understood everything, but he couldn't bear to see her marry someone else.
"Fine, go ahead and marry him. If you succeed, I'll admit defeat," Darian's voice rang out, filled with a cold and cutting tone, reflecting his obsessive and domineering nature.
Darian buried his head in her neck, his warm breath spraying on her delicate skin, "Cecily, I can't change your mind, and you can't change mine."
Cecily felt helpless.
Darian didn't want her to be in danger, but she was already in the whirlpool of danger and couldn't escape.
Their conversation led nowhere. On this matter, Cecily couldn't compromise, but Darian couldn't be rational.
Percy was in a good mood on the way back, while Bella's face looked sullen.
"Are you really planning to let Evander marry Cecily?"
"Isn't it good? You've always liked her, and Evander has liked her for so many years."
"Is that really what you think?" Bella looked at him seriously. "I do like Cecily, but her ties with the Fitzgerald family are too deep. She and Darian just lost their child. Don't meddle."
"But as I've already said, and I only care about Cecily's value. I never intended for Evander to spend his life with her."
Percy's eyes, cold and sharp, betrayed his calculating mind.
Bella was confused and waved her hand. "I don't care what you're planning. But Cecily is a good girl and has suffered enough. Don't hurt her anymore."
"I understand it. Don't worry." Percy agreed readily.
Back at the Lockwood Manor, Percy went straight to Evander's room. Landon and the butler were standing at the door. Percy frowned and asked, "What's going on?"
"Mr. Percy Lockwood, Mr. Evander Lockwood hasn't come out for almost a day and a night. I'm afraid something might happen if he doesn't eat, the butler said.
Percy frowned and knocked heavily on the door. "Evander, open the door."
There was no response.
Percy was furious. "Evander, did you hear me? Open the door."
Still, no one responded.
The loud noise surely reached the person inside, but their deliberate choice not to respond indicated a clear intention to remain silent and unengaged.
Just as Percy was about to have someone break down the door, a cool breeze passed by. "What are you doing?"
Evander stood at the door, coldly asking.
He was dressed in a white shirt, holding a drink, and his whole demeanor was one of desolation.
"What are you trying to do? Locking yourself in the room, are you going to die?"
Evander sneered, "You don't allow me to go out, and now you want to control even if I lock the door? Are you going to dictate when I eat and go to the bathroom?"
Percy knew Evander blamed him for what happened to Cecily.
But so what?
He was the head of the family, and Evander had to listen to him.
Percy said, "Now go clean yourself up and go to the hospital to accompany Cecily."
Evander sneered, "Aren't you afraid I'll tell Cecily everything about you?"
"You won't," Percy said coldly. "If you wanted to tell Cecily, you wouldn't be so conflicted and despondent."
Evander laughed, as if mocking himself.
Percy suppressed his anger and lowered his voice.
"Evander, I'm doing this for your own good. I know you like Cecily. Now the opportunity is right in front of you."
"I won't marry her."
"What did you say?"
Evander lifted his gaze and replied. "I said I won't marry her. You want to use my marriage to get what Cecily has? Dream on."
With that, Evander slammed the door shut.
Percy was furious. "Evander, you don't get a vote on this one. If you dare ruin my plan, you get out of this house."
The door opened, and Evander walked out without looking back.
Percy was livid.
Landon leaned against the wall, watching the drama unfold with a cold smile. He walked up and patted Percy on the back back, saying, "Dad, calm down. Cut off all his work and credit cards. When he can't survive outside, he'll come back on his own."
Percy glanced at Landon and didn't object.
Evander went to find Cecily. Cecily had just had an unpleasant conversation with Darian, and when Evander rushed in, she thought it was Darian coming back.
"Did Percy come to see you?" Evander asked.
Cecily's face was calm. "Yes."
"I didn't tell him anything, including the fact that Darian hasn't lost his memory," Evander explained.
"Thank you," Cecily replied.
Evander gritted his teeth and continued, "And my dad wants us to be together. I know you won't agree, and I'll take care of it to make sure he doesn't come back."
"How do you know I won't agree?"
Evander was stunned, his eyes widening in disbelief. "You mean you agree?"
Cecily didn't answer.
In the past, Evander would have been overjoyed, feeling like he had won the world, but not now. Now, he saw something in Cecily's eyes that was similar to what he saw in Percy's eyes.
It was a calculation.
He didn't believe Cecily would willingly want to be with him. She was smart and had figured out Percy's plan, and she had her own plan.
The light in Evander's eyes dimmed. "What are you planning to do?"
Cecily certainly wouldn't tell Evander.
"Is it fair for both of you and Percy to do this to me?"
One was his father, and the other was the person he liked. They were both scheming, and he was the one being used.
Cecily remained calm upon hearing Evander's words.
"Fair? You should ask Percy that question, not me."
Cecily sneered.
She continued, "What did I do to deserve this? Why do I have to go through danger and lose my child?
"If you want fairness, you can choose to resist everything Percy wants to do and stop him.
"You can also tell him that I already know everything, and then there won't be anything more to come. You'll get the fairness you want."
Evander clenched his fists, looking at the now hurtful Cecily, his heart aching intensely. "You know I can't do that. I can't stop him, and I can't harm you."
He hated himself for being unable to do anything and hated Percy for orchestrating all of this. Otherwise, everything would have been fine.
"I understand." Evander nodded. "Do whatever you want. He owes you, and whatever the result is, he brought it on himself," Evander said dejectedly and left the ward.
His heart filled with complex and unexpressed pain.
Cecily lowered her eyes, looking at her clenched hand, a mocking smile appearing on her lips.
They were seriously asking if that was fair?
How ridiculous.
In the evening, Vivienne and Aurelie came to accompany Cecily.
Looking at Vivienne's face, Cecily that Vivienne had lost a lot of weight recently.
"Mom, have you been feeling unwell lately?" Cecily reached out for Vivienne's wrist.
Vivienne, however, nonchalantly reached for the fruit on the table, avoiding Cecily's hand. "No. Why do you ask?"
"You've lost a lot of weight."
"Really? Maybe I've been eating less lately," Vivienne expained.
"Cecily, Aunt Vivienne hasn't been able to eat at home because she's been worried about you. It's normal for her to lose weight." Aurelie said as she walked over. "But Aunt Vivienne, you can't keep doing this. Even if you're worried about Cecily, you need to take care of yourself."
Vivienne smiled and handed a peeled orange to Cecily. "Okay, I'll take care of myself. You don't need to worry about me."
Seeing that Vivienne's complexion was normal, Cecily felt relieved.
Desmond knocked on the door and walked in, "Ms. Bennett, Miss Bennett, Miss Miller."
Vivienne's gaze fell on the manila envelope in Desmond's hand. "What's that?"
"It's a paternity test." Desmond handed the envelope to Vivienne. "I thought the results would be ready tomorrow, but they were done a day early. So I brought them over."
Cecily's hand, which was holding the orange, trembled, and her stiff gaze fell on the paternity test.
Vivienne took it and nodded. "Okay, Thank you for bringing it over."
Cecily's hand, resting on the blanket, clenched tightly. Looking at the paternity test, her heart inexplicably began to race.
Yes, it was the paternity test.
It was the paternity test between her and Bryan!
Vivienne opened it in front of Cecily. The test results were no surprise to them. Cecily's lips trembled. "Are you going to tell Bryan that I'm his biological daughter?"
"Yes."
"He won't believe it."
It wasn't the first time they had told him.
Cecily, after a moment of stunned silence, let out a mocking laugh.
"That's why we need to show him the paternity test." Vivienne's eyes were complex, filled with an unresolvable guilt as she looked at Cecily.
