Chapter 604: Vivienne's Condition

Cecily gave a quick nod, "Alright."

Just then, Bryan strolled in from outside. Spotting Cecily, he looked kinda shocked, "Cecily, what are you doing here?"

Cecily was just as surprised to see Bryan. She shot a look at Desmond, "Since when does he get to waltz in and out like he owns the place?"

Desmond forced a grin, "We couldn't keep him out, so we just gave up trying."

Desmond was exhausted from trying to block Bryan every day, but Bryan seemed unstoppable, getting blocked and still coming back.

Desmond was totally at his wit's end.

Seeing Desmond's pained smile, Cecily started to buy into what he said earlier. If someone she couldn't stand showed up every day, she'd probably go out of her way to dodge them too.

Cecily finally answered Bryan's question, "This is my mom's house. Makes more sense for me to be here than you, right?"

Bryan felt a bit down hearing Cecily's cold tone. He asked again, "You haven't seen her either?"

This meant Bryan hadn't seen Vivienne for days.

Cecily nodded, "Yeah, thanks to you. My mom's avoiding you so much she doesn't even want to come back."

Bryan looked at Cecily and shook his head, looking all defeated, "No, you're wrong. I'm not that big of a deal to your mom. This is her place; she wouldn't leave just to dodge me. She'd have someone kick me out."

"What are you getting at?" Cecily's eyes narrowed.

"I come here every day and never see her. There’s gotta be another reason. I haven't figured it out yet. Look, even with all of you here, she still hasn't shown up. Don't you think that's weird?"

Bryan had already sensed something was off, but he couldn't figure it out.

Cecily's hands clenched on her lap.

She wasn't dumb. With Bryan saying this and her own suspicions, it was clear Vivienne wasn't just avoiding Bryan.

She was avoiding all of them!

"Desmond, what's really going on with my mom?" Cecily asked Desmond, clearly worried.

Desmond, having been the Bennett family's butler for years and handled tons of stuff, had long mastered the art of staying cool and adaptable. Facing Cecily's questioning, his expression didn't change. He slightly turned and said to Cecily, "Ms. Cecily Bennett, you're overthinking. Today’s just bad timing, Ms. Vivienne Bennett isn't here. As for Mr. Whitaker, you should understand that Ms. Vivienne Bennett doesn't want to see you, so she's avoiding you."

Cecily wasn't buying it anymore. She turned to Darian and asked, "What do you think?"

Darian nodded, keeping it cool, "Yeah, something's definitely fishy."

Desmond's explanation sounded reasonable but felt kinda forced. Plus, with Vivienne dodging Cecily before, it just seemed even sketchier.

"What's off?" A voice came from the doorway.

Cecily's eyes lit up. She looked over and saw Vivienne in a light-colored dress with a shawl, slowly walking in.

Seeing Vivienne, Cecily's face brightened, and she jumped up, "Mom!"

Vivienne, wearing a mask, saw Cecily rushing over and immediately stepped back, "Cecily, stay put. I still have a cold, don't wanna get you sick." Vivienne coughed lightly, her voice sounding super weak.

Cecily frowned with worry and stepped forward, "Mom, let me check on you."

Vivienne waved her off, "No need. All of you stay away. I just got back from the hospital. The doc said it's contagious. I don't want you catching it, especially with your two kids around. It'd be bad if you all got sick."

With the mask on, Vivienne's face was hidden. Cecily wanted to get closer, but Vivienne wouldn't let her. Cecily got anxious and noticed a bag of meds nearby. She picked it up and checked it out. It was all cold medicine, and there was even a medical report saying it was a cold.

Bryan tried to step forward, but Vivienne shot him a cold look, "Why are you here again?"

"Where have you been these days? You haven't been home at all." Bryan wasn't buying it. He could easily check if Vivienne was home or not.

"I've been at the hospital for treatment," Vivienne said casually, not giving anything away.

Cecily frowned and asked, "Mom, didn't you say you were feeling better? You don't look better at all."

Vivienne smiled gently, "I said that so you wouldn't worry. But you came to check on me anyway."

"Well, it's because you weren't honest that we got worried," Cecily said, looking concerned.

Vivienne coughed lightly a few times, "You all shouldn't crowd around me. I just took some medicine and feel a bit sleepy. I'm gonna go rest in my room."

Cecily's eyes were full of concern as she followed, "Mom, I'll stay with you."

Vivienne reached out to stop Cecily from helping her, "There's a doctor at home to take care of me. You just got here, so rest up and take Darian to look around."
