Chapter 590: My Business, No One Can Help Me

Aurelie slowly lifted her hand, all smeared with Joshua's dried blood, now a dark, crusty red. She tried to wipe it off on her clothes, but it just wouldn't budge.

Those bloodstains felt like a big, fat reminder that Joshua's death was on her.

She was the one who got her dad killed.

If only she had listened to the cop and chilled Joshua out instead of poking the bear, maybe he'd still be here.

Aurelie took a deep breath, but it felt like something was stuck in her chest, making it hard to breathe.

Cecily reached out and hugged Aurelie, who was shaking like a leaf. She closed her eyes tight, "Was it my fault? Did I kill him?"

Cecily patted her back, trying to comfort her, "No, you didn't do anything wrong."

"But if I had calmed him down first, everything would be different. He wouldn't be dead, and it wouldn't have ended like this. It's my fault." Aurelie bit her lower lip, her heart aching like crazy. "I didn't want this at all."

Cecily felt the weight too. No one wanted this to happen, and she still couldn't wrap her head around why Joshua jumped.

Sighing, Cecily pulled a silver needle from her bag and gently pricked Aurelie, "Get some sleep."

Aurelie's eyelids got heavy, and she didn't even know how she fell asleep. Cecily glanced at Nathaniel, who came over and carried Aurelie back to her room, laying her on the bed.

Looking at Aurelie's pale face, Nathaniel's hands clenched into fists at his sides.

He had once lent sixteen million dollars to Joshua to pay off debts without even asking Aurelie's opinion.

And Joshua had blown that sixteen million dollars on gambling. If he hadn't lent Joshua the money, Joshua wouldn't have had the cash to gamble, and things wouldn't have gone south. Aurelie wouldn't be hurting so much.

So, wasn't he also to blame for Aurelie's pain?

Nathaniel lowered his eyes, full of guilt.

Even though Aurelie was asleep, her body still shook, and she mumbled something in her sleep, like she was having a bad dream.

Meanwhile, at the Lewis Manor, Lillian laughed out loud as she watched the news, "What a bunch of idiots."

"Lillian, what's so funny?" Laura asked, sitting beside her.

"Mom, did you see the news? Joshua is dead!" Lillian's voice was full of glee.

"Joshua? Aurelie's dad? He's dead? How did he die?" Laura frowned.

"He jumped to his death." Lillian handed her phone to Laura and leisurely peeled a grape from the fruit bowl.

Laura looked at Lillian's delighted expression and asked suspiciously, "This has nothing to do with you, does it?"

"What does it have to do with me?" Lillian laughed as she ate the grape. "They came to me, saying they were being hounded by debt collectors and couldn't live anymore. They asked for my help, so I gave them a suggestion. Who knew Joshua would be so stupid? He originally just wanted to pretend to force Aurelie to pay his debts, but he ended up dying for real. Who can he blame but himself for being stupid?"

Laura's eyes darted around, "Since you gave them the idea, now that he's dead, won't the Miller family, who are a bunch of ruffians, come after us?"

"They wouldn't dare! They still owe us money. They are lucky if we don't go after them for the debt; they wouldn't dare come after us. It's laughable. Besides, I told them to act, but he fell on his own. Who can he blame?" Lillian said smugly, raising an eyebrow as she thought of something. "Well, they'll blame Aurelie. For not caring about her dad's life, driving him to his death. That'll stir up a lot of trouble."

Laura's frown deepened as she looked at the video on the phone, "Isn't that Nathaniel?"

"Nathaniel?" Lillian grabbed the phone and was stunned. The guy in the video protecting Aurelie and taking her away was indeed Nathaniel.

Lillian's face instantly darkened, and she gripped the phone tightly, like she wanted to strangle the person in the video through the screen.

"Nathaniel, I can't believe you're still hung up on Aurelie!" she roared, throwing the phone to the ground in a fit of rage, her face twisted with anger, her chest heaving.

Last time at the bridal shop, he had helped Aurelie. Now, he was in the video, protecting her like she was the most important person in the world.

Since Nathaniel thought Aurelie was so important, she would completely destroy her.

Lillian's eyes grew colder and more vicious. "Mom, call the Kensington family and tell them to control Nathaniel. Also, I want to move up the wedding with Nathaniel."

Laura tried to calm Lillian down, "You don't need to be so angry. This marriage is just a business deal. He agreed to marry you because of the deal with your father, so you don't need to care if he loves you."

"I know he doesn't have feelings for me, but since he's marrying me, there can be no other woman in his heart. If there is, I'll destroy her." Lillian's eyes were filled with madness.

Laura opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing. Lillian's temper was unpredictable now, and if she didn't go along with her, she would go crazy again.

It was just a small matter, so Laura decided to go along with her.

Laura called the Kensington family, and Nathaniel soon received a call from his father, Terry Kensington. Nathaniel glanced at the phone and answered, putting it to his ear.

Terry's voice was full of displeasure, "Where are you right now?"

"What's up?" Nathaniel's tone was equally unfriendly.

"Wherever you are, get back here immediately." Terry ordered angrily.

"I'm busy." Nathaniel was about to hang up, but Terry threatened, "If you don't come back, I can't guarantee that Aurelie will be able to live peacefully in Silver Frost Capital."

Nathaniel's eyes turned cold as he looked at Aurelie on the bed. His previously firm attitude softened.

Cecily walked to the door and saw Nathaniel about to leave.

"Nathaniel." Cecily called out.

Nathaniel stopped, waiting for her to continue.

Cecily bit her lip and hesitated before speaking, "Hayden told us about your situation. There seems to be more to the story. If you have any difficulties or secrets, you can tell us. Darian and I will try to help you if we can."

Nathaniel didn't turn around, so Cecily couldn't see his expression. She only heard him say, "No one can help me with my problems."
